Whisky Reviews for Ledaig 2005 SV
14 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 87.66 points
- One year later this Ledaig is distilled as the really fantastic 2004 1st fill Sherry Casks from Signatory. Immediately after pouring it seems a bit sprightly and out of round for me. With time he calms down. In the nose there is hayloft, nutmeg, tomatoes, dates and bananas. Medical smoke is moderately present. Less spicy than expected in the mouth; Smoke, banana sweetness, vanilla and some sherry are pleasant, but not nearly as voluminous as the bombastic 2004 bottlings. The finish is good, the throat fires, the mouth salivates and is happy about a lot of sweetness. Delicious and priced for € 90 ok. 85 points
- He is delicious.

Medium long, smoky and fruity
- Although having been matured in a first fill sherry butt for 10
years, the distillery character here is unmistakable! There are just
enough other elements to balance. Very satisfying with a pleasant
balancing sweetness and fruity components. Perfect to enjoy neat. A
lovely example of an island whisky from Scotland.
I thank Kirsch Whisky Import for the sample!
Instantly fresh sea air with maritime notes and peat smoke on the nose,
supported by medicinal flavours and a whiff of ozone. Lingering malty
sweetness and a touch of banana bread underneath. Vigorous but pleasant.
Delicate sweetness of malted barley pleasantly mixed with fruity
elements of apricots and orange peel. This is complemented by a warming
spiciness of oak, white pepper, cloves, nutmeg and allspice. Becomes
creamy on the palate with honey, caramel, and oatcakes, all deliciously
covered by lingering peat smoke.
The finish is long, sweet and very creamy with cereal, a slightly fruity sweetness and warming peat smoke. Nicely mouth-coating.
WITH WATER: Water tames the intensity of the maritime flavours on the
nose significantly bringing citric notes and yellow fruits to the fore.
Sweet and deliciously fruity on the palate with a slightly tamed but
still pleasantly warming spiciness. The finish is long, sweet and creamy
with a lingering peat note on the tail.
- Nose is 90+, to bad that the taste is very sulfuric/young/inequilibrated. The latter gets better with quite generously added water and time in glass. 87/88.
2nd: Indeed very much licorice (Süßholz). 88 pts.
