    • Nose
      90 90
Let it stand at first, but then...Wow! What a colorful potpourri…amaretto, molasses, cinnamon, cloves, chocolate covered raisins, apricots and peaches, brown butter, lovage, cookie dough and orange.
    • Taste
      92 92
Intense and creamy, the sherry is now evident, the fruit darkens, plums and raisins, milk chocolate and almonds, forest honey and intense malt. Present slightly hot spice with red pepper and cloves.
    • Finish
      88 88
Long and warming, nice interplay between spice and sweetness, green tea and cloves

  2. Joint86 scored this whisky 90 points Expert Senior

Fine complex whisky with excellent balance.
    • Nose
      90 90
Saturated, caramel-fruity with hints of vanilla, coffee and a subtle smoke.
A few drops of water make the aroma softer and more complex.
    • Taste
      89 89
Thick, slightly buttery, sweet. Vanilla, oak, cherry jam, a little pepper. In the background is a little iodine and algae.
From water it becomes sharper, the taste of varnish is manifested.
    • Finish
      90 90
Long, oily, a lot of woody notes, propolis, dried fruits

  3. DocF scored this whisky 89 points Expert Senior

    Color: Tawny

Much Clynelish does not come through, but without Clynelish it would be another whisky. Without water quite a scratching brush. Great, the rest more than ok, 89P.
    • Nose
Polished oak, spruce needles, fir honey, nutmeg. Dry bark pieces, lime honey, late plums, walnuts. Almost a little reminiscent of Armagnac. The alcohol is present at the beginning and disappears with some air. After the first sip of much resinous, bitter, wet moss, Blockmalz, has something of Old Bottle Flavor. With water: grassier, more resinous. Burnt plastic.
    • Taste
Quite krabenstig without water. With water: malty, beeswax, resin, almost a bit thin, espresso, hazelnuts, pickled plums, strong oak, sweet orange juice. Old Bottle Flavor.
    • Finish
Long, some residual fruit, then more and more bitter, just before it gets unpleasant, come back resins and block malt, a bit earthy.

Very, very tasty. For me the extremely improved variant of the DE. Here Sherry and Clynelish shake hands and do not fight for supremacy.
    • Nose
Wow, he has a cool nose. This delicious, fresh Clynelish characteristic still has room to shake the sherry barrel. Totally consistent.
    • Taste
Sherry is spreading. The alcohol builds up over time. Dark fruits. Slightly dry. Very chocolaty.
    • Finish
Mhh ... here comes a hint of sulfur or fermented fruit. The Clynelish typical waxy is still present here. Long finish, with a decent portion of spicy oak towards the end.

Pure a proper scratching brush, with water and a bit of caution, a robust, strong treat, as you can spend for the age and strength of 100 + €.
    • Nose
undiluted: cinnamon, cloves, honey, milk chocolate, some resin, shisha tobacco, quite piercing, with water you get the sting away and can still tickle dry fig and drink cocoa (but beware, drowns easily)
    • Taste
undiluted quite snappy, bitter, burnt, with water velvety, creamy, but still intense - cinnamon, milk chocolate, Russian bread, the slightly burnt note is still there, but pleasant, then again resin and tobacco
    • Finish
      long, pepper, wood, resin, coffee

An enjoyable and quite different sister cask to 8682.
    • Nose
      91 91
Minty, tobacco, hint of chocolate with, hint of clove, touch of struck match
    • Taste
      88 88
Light cinnamon, pleasantly light sulphur, waxy milk chocolate, light creamy citrus sneaking through, tea leaves
    • Finish
      92 92
Lingering sugar cinnamon, chocolate makes an appearance again, long salivating finish

With the bottle opened for some weeks now, the whisky really improved.
Some initial dull elements dissapeared and it became fresher and more complex.

Clynelish 1995/2015 SV Refill Sherry Butt 8683 WID: 77592

Nose: mint, wild honey, beeswax, dried apricots and peaches, shortbread.

Taste: Pure for me not too spicy. Creamy mouthfeel. Forest honey. Milk chocolate. No bitterness.

Finish: The apricots are back. Then comes the wood. Something sulfur. Slightly bitter. Warming. Long, but not very long.

Conclusion: It reminds me of the Clynelish from the single cask season series. Without having the direct comparison, I find more honey here. For the time being, I'm going to take the 89 points from the raccoon, even though the finish could be even longer. Have to try it again diluted. I just had it in the glass again.

In the nose were next to the mint now also clearly herbs there, maybe it hits basil. With water they are still there and displace some of the honey. The apricots are more prominent for this. Great! The butter biscuit goes over to Buttertoast.

Taste with water: praline, apricots, even oranges. Still quite waxy mouthfeel. After a long time, it gets sharper: ginger.

In the finish , he puts first to sweet. But then dries out something. Coffee is coming. Only slightly bitter. Removes walnut. Apricots stay. Still pretty long despite the water.

Conclusion: I stay with my rating. The malt can be diluted well and remains quite faithful.
