Nose: citrus fruits, pear, pineapple. Slightly mineral. Wood. Kind of dirty. The only flaw: something closed.

Palate: Ooh, nice! For a change, the fruitiness is a bit in the background; mineral notes and slightly burnt baking paper play first fiddle. Very oily and mouth-filling. I like it very much.

Finish: Now more fruitiness (citrus fruits and pears), but still mineral; acid wood is added and is getting stronger.

  3. dramspotter scored this whisky 74 points Connoisseur

    • Nose
      very restrained, some lemony tang
    • Taste
clear bourbon in style, a deep earthy, woody ending merging into the finish
    • Finish
earthiness lingers a bit and then a slight light wood hangs around. Medium due to the continuing echo of this wood.

  4. Bishlouk scored this whisky 84 points Connoisseur

The nose is really nice, but I can not appreciate the acidulous and / or astringent whiskys. Too bad that the mouth of this Glen Elgin falls in this hair profile that I do not especially. A whisky nevertheless well made and consistent with what it offers.
    • Nose
Pretty delicate and engaging, while also being quite wise and classic. Yellow fruits (apple, lemon zest), honey, a hint of wood. A floral freshness in the background, after aeration.
    • Taste
Astringent from the first sip, with a pronounced acidity. Lemon, green apple, and spicy spices.
    • Finish
A sweet honeycomb coated with peppery spices. The tart green apple lasts a moment too.

This is a glorious bourbon cask treat.
    • Nose
Buttery and herbal, with wood and fruit: oranges, raspberries, blackberries, and limes. Minty toothpaste, wood varnish, deodorant spray and acrylic paint.
    • Taste
Creamy Easter egg chocolate. Malty toffee. Mint ice cream, menthol, cherries, gooseberries and cinnamon.
    • Finish
Long and tangy with citrus leaves and bourbon spice.

Very fruity dram, where the alcohol is a bit too punchy in the nose for a higher score, in taste the alcohol is more balanced.
Also some vegetal notes in the nose, disappearing in taste. There it's more on the orange and other citrus fruits.
    Pleasant whisky for sure.
    • Nose
      87 87
Initially quite some alcohol punching. Fruity, citrus, with also a quite vegetal, green touch. A bit mineralic as well. Ripe orange, some pear, but alcohol keeps on stinging.
After some time the heftiest alcohol is gone, a full and rich fruity scent remains.
    • Taste
      87 87
Pretty sparkling, but certainly not as alcohol-driven as the nose. Later on even quite friendly. Fruity, orange, pineapple, honey.
    • Finish
      88 88
Pretty powerful still, very fruity, citrus, orange, some honey. Warming feeling in the belly. Pretty long, with some wood, a touch of pineapple. A bit chalky now. Wood remains quite some time now.

    Cadenhead's own tasting notes:

    Nose:
Initially grassy giving way to white pepper; hints of soft leather and hints of orange zest.
    Palate:
Toasted oats and raspberries with white chocolate. Lemon cheesecake with soft golden syrup.
    Finish:
Pistachio nuts; distant lime; soft spice and slightly drying.
