Whisky Reviews for Yoichi Sherry & Sweet

- Sherry, sherry... and again sherry. First kinda reminded me on the Kavalan 2019 Solist Port (Cask 0111118040A, 7 y/o, 18.11.2011, bottled in 23.04.2019), which is an outstanding and very sweet Single Malt as well. The Yoichi S&S, however, is not as complex. I disagree about the "sour" element. I mainly perceive sweet fruits, berries here and there. The finish shows some mild bitter notes. Definitely made for those interested in Sherry bombs. For me, a standard dram within my Sherry repertoire.
- N- Full, classic sherry with leathery smokes, dark fruits, prunes,
resinous tree sap, almost like plasticine and rubbery, fresh wood
P- Tree sap, fragrant of young green mango without the
punchy sourness, raisin, sweet smooth custard at the back. Masterfully
balanced and pleasing.
F- Medium, pickled oriental ginger, a solid malt with bits of vanilla.
— at The Whisky Bar, Kuala Lumpur.
- More appropriately titled, "Sherry and Sweet & Sour."
I'm not complaining...
A punchy dram that has an unusual red-fruit/citrus-fruit mix, with red grapes, blood orange and red grapefruit and a puckery sourness that lingers on the fairly long finish which eventually sees some woodspice.
It lacks the sophistication of the single cask bottlings, but it is a sort of sherry bomb, so on theme!
