- Bunnahabhain 18 yo Wemyss Malts Sizzling Charcoal 1997 (2015) 46%. In official glass. Pretty pale yellow. Aroma is muted some seaweed, touch of pink mice. Very muted. Airy. Taste is medicinal salty soft smokey salty hard granite spirit with crunchy barley and soft smoke. It's ok. (3.25/78)
- Nice, but really not very deep, long or under the best Islays of Wemyss.
Pretty gentle & young, if one had not expected so directly, lemon, beautiful medical peat, pavement, iodine, oyster, sea breeze
Bandage and bandage, lemon, iodine again, concentrated smoke, salt water, grapefruit peel, oak, actually a little smoldering coal, but very discreet
Slightly smoky, wet oak, bitter, short to medium long
- n: smells much younger than 18 years. rather peaty and indeed it´s the
charcoal-type of smoke with a medicinal caracter, iodine, bandages and
wet beach. very spirit-driven and a little one-dimensional.
t: pretty much the same with a tad more soot and smoke, also a little salt.
add a small lemon and grapefruit fruitiness.
comments: not bad of course but a little disappointing
- Nice phenolic and peaty aromas on the nose, but rather disappointing and sort of overdiluted on the palate. This might have been much better at cask strength.
Peat lovers looking for a nice Bunna with some power are better off getting themselves one those "heavily peated" Signatory bottlings.
