[October, 2019] A younger fairly priced 'farclas is a must try, what else...

...and this is an easy drinkable dram without flaws and highlights. Some years ago such bottles were offered at half of this price but these times are long gone, sadly.
    • Nose
      86 86
The colour is burnished and the nose is a little punchy first and offers a rather shy modern sherry profile which is herbal-driven. Not many other aromas shine through and I am too lazy to search for them tonight.
    • Taste
      88 88
The taste is quite simple too: a modern herbal-sherried dram where the wine is in balance with the sugary flavours of the malt and the herbs and spices of the wood. Easy drinkable and without flaws - I suggest to chew it for a while because fine dark chocolatey flavours pop up this way.
    • Finish
      85 85
The dram arrives warming but just a little coating on the palate with some drying moments (cold metals). The finish is rather short and adds no new impressions, unfortunately. Water releases more malty aromas in the nose (waxes, honeys) but turns the taste flat. I like the neat dram best.

Pours a darker ambercopper. Scent is mature wood, fairly mild on the sherry. Drying, nutty. Taste is full, expressive maturity from the wood, strong nuttyness. lovely sherry intensity. Nutty finish, intense booze. Lovely !

For me, the notes from didi 1893 get to the point.

what a development - fresh in the glass he looked young, metallic unsettling, after a short time and with a little hand warmth wonderful fragrant fruit flavors rise - delicious
    • Nose
waxy oak, delicate, restrained oranges with peel, orange peel, apricot jam, generally a bit weak.
If you warm up the dram a bit: the apricot note intensifies to a very tasty very intense very fruity fragrance, broken gingerbread hearts are probably the best: cardamom, cinnamon, ginger, apricot orange jam, a touch of nut, mint, later strong tobacco notes, floral oak
    • Taste
just after pouring a bit more metallic - with some life: sweet and sour apricot jam, orange peel and juice, mint, orange tictac, tingling oak, some chocolate and bitter almond
    • Finish
mild, delicate, fruity, slightly waxy, slightly (pleasant) floral, slightly dry, spicy warm finish

noses like the glenfarclas 17, but tastes and finishes like the 15, good whisky though, i just happen to prefer the 17

Great, 60 € taste completely appropriate, strong, intense, interesting ..
    • Nose
strong, plum jam, dark berries, gingerbread spice, speculaas ... as calm as possible, if you "sucked" the glass too much, first comes only fresh grain and BW tank biscuit, until it has "perfumed"
    • Taste
sweet and spicy, a lot of oak, pepper, allspice, some cinnamon, clove, the sweetness intense, but rather poorly defined (sugar / honey), behind the tongue a dark-bitter-fruity note, so between licorice, elderberry and cough syrup
    • Finish
long, spicy, pepper, dark chocolate, cough drops

  13. Joschbert scored this whisky 86 points Expert Senior

Intense but somewhat one-dimensional. Water addition brings little change.
    • Nose
Plums, fruit compote, cinnamon, the alcohol easily stands out, chocolate, raisins, tart fruit notes, berries, vanilla
    • Taste
Calvados (?), Dark chocolate, raisins, cinnamon, kirsch, altogether light alcoholic strength, which decreases with water
    • Finish
slight bitterness, very dry, cinnamon, reminiscent of cherries or apricot stones

Aroma: sweet, fruity Olorososherry, metallically young, raisins, pastries

Taste: sweet, fruchitic sherry, metallic, dry

Finish: medium long, fruity, dry, oak

Metallic and young. Nevertheless voluminous and overripe fruit. Amazing amount of pepper and sharpness. Habituation needed but delicious. Not a typical Glenfarclas for me.
    • Nose
Oranges and citrus fruits, voluminous fruit aroma with fruity sherry, slightly metallic, overripe pears.
    • Taste
Only briefly full-bodied fruity then comes the spicy wood. Now a peppery sharpness arises, in the reverberation the fruit comes to the fore again.
    • Finish
Spicy wood emits a plump warmth, then pepper and sharpness again. Slightly metallic with a nut note at the end of the finish.

  17. Cartman scored this whisky 86 points Expert Junior

The nose is autumnal, the taste is rather early summer. The relative youth comes through with the metallic note in the nose, but is sparkling in taste.
    • Nose
Elder leaves, somewhat metallic, sunflowers, sea salt, moist hay, misty heathland, prunes, sheep's wool, hazelnut shells, cranberry juice
    • Taste
soft alcohol, very sweet, barrel oak, oily, beautiful Sherryfasseinfluss, nutmeg, strong, herbal notes towards chervil, black cherry compote, prunes, Earl Gray tea, yew berries, cranberries, a little sea buckthorn and a bit of juniper and allspice. Is not really deep down, but for my personal taste, there must be no more influence on the barrel here.
    • Finish
Medium long with oak, bittersweet, nutmeg, strawberries at the end
