The nose is just superbe! I love this style, it's like the 2 other '70 Springers It tasted 3 weeks ago. At this age 12-20yo the spirits is still there. In this one it's for sure there is a lot older whisky in it than 12yo.

EDIT 24/07/2020. The bottle is emptied out after 2 years. It was pleasing but not the 91 from fist.
    Giving it an 88 overal.
Now you can see the difference between a sample and a whole bottle!
(I think my sample was from another botteling though)
    • Nose
Fresh tropical (stone) fruits, mineral touch like very calm sea breeze or wet stone or a mix of it. Dunnage warehouse! Sweet. Occasionally a hint of soft peat? This is really really great! 91
    • Taste
Starts fresh and becomes heavier and fuller, creamier. The fruits are less tropical but very full, slides over the tongue. Soft mint, Very quaffable.  91
    • Finish
Long, mouth coating, tropical fruit (stone fruits). Half way the dram the tongue and mouth is layerd with a thick soft mouth feel. Just lovely 91

http://kaypingers-whiskyblog.de/frontend/fullarticle.php?id=196 Color: Full gold with a delicate copper content
Nose: Much spicier than its predecessor - the fruity notes are overlaid by sherry aromas. Smoke, dull leather, velvet and paper are added. Tart orange, fine honey and salty nuts.
Taste: Fat and creamy, with full spice! Dull fruit notes packed in a leather box with honey, salt, nuts and wax. In addition fresh herbs, Eucalyptus, mint and Chinagras. Classically integrated wood accompanies the palette into the finish.
Finish: Long, fresh and spicy! Dry wood, leather, smoke and subordinate fruits lead the finish towards mocha and chocolate notes.
    92 points (nose: 92 / taste: 92 / finish: 91)

it took about 10 minutes to open this one because of the wax seal and the fact we already tried some samples.

This is one of the better Springbank whisky from a decanter, not the fabulous Italian 46GL ones that are from the '60's but not bitter as well. The decanter is 1400g which indicates it is a full one.  90p.

their are quite a lot of different decanters from different era's.

    I tasted a 46GL - 75cl from Italy with a fabulous Springbank whisky, but also a 43% - 750ml 86USproof edition with a great nose but a bitter taste and weak finish.

The ones without %/cls are probably the best ones.

At a guess, this was a great example of a whisky falling apart in a ceramic decanter... interesting that it didn't show in the nose at all. Must've been a beauty once & the nose still tells the tale of years gone by....
Very temperamental & goes through a weird development in glass.
    • Nose
First of: musty, earthy, fruit peel wax right away, apples, quince, mirabelles, faint weapon oil/diesel/coal, faint beeswax, (89)
Later: more sweet exotic fruits, mango, passionfruit, winegums, nice wood & wax notes underneath. (93)
    • Taste
weirdly sweet, sour & bitter at once, thin, cardboard, somewhat metallic, penicilin, some nice fruits underneath, but doesn't save it. (63-82)
    • Finish
brief increase of fruit & faint beeswax, then the metallic notes coming back again, so is the cardboard. Once  they dissapear, they make room for the fruit again, more exotic now again, also with some butterscotch & white chocolate. (87 / 77 / 89)

    This is lovely stuff.
    • Nose
Coconut, fruit, vanilla and, well, George T Stagg!
    • Taste
Everything on the nose is in the palate too, with some oak and salt thrown in for good measure
    • Finish
Some fudge to add to it all.
