29 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 90.26 points

  1. KayMeertens scored this whisky 91 points Connoisseur

    • Nose
First fresh with orange zest, blossom, marzipan, vanilla and apple. Later caramel and new leather. Also a whiff of smoke starts developing, as well as a slight nuttiness. Later some oak.
    • Taste
Floral, but with quite a punch for its age and ABV. A Chinese sweet & sour sauce containing tangerines, peanuts and lots of spices. Caramel, vanilla, leather and a light waxiness.
    • Finish
More spice, more wood, more peanut and more tangerine. The smoke from the nose comes back. More of everything? No, the floral part is a lot less now.

Single Cask Cadenhead releases always make up for a real threat. This 37yo Dufftown also delivers. It’s a full and intense whisky during nose, taste and finish. Taste wise I got ripe tropical fruit like mangos, peaches and pineapples, some dashes of sweet coconut juice, thick honey and fresh herbs. Simply amazing.

Stunning old style whisky, very good! Creamy and thick nose which is followed by the same sensation when tasting the whisky.

Would think at first nosing it is an ex sherry cask but it switches quite rapidly. The leather aspect is a very nice touch to this whisky.

Old school books and a leather school bag I used to carry around. Sweet velvet honey, orange zest, marzipan. Fudge and some vanilla. Floral, vanilla and some candle wax. Lovely!
    • Taste
      93 93
Sweet velvet honey, orange zest, marzipan. Squeezed orange s, apples, stewed almost marmelade style pears and apricots. Caramel and whipped cream.

The orange zest and caramel / fudge are in a constant dance which works great. Eventually it is the orange zest that wins.
    • Finish
      91 91
Long finish on leather notes, fudge, oranges. Continuing on some spices and apricots marmelade.

Squeezed orange zest that keeps coming back.

Lemon, caramel, rosemary, thyme, sour and bitter in harmony, complex.
    • Taste

Lemon, smack in your mouth, in terms of alcohol I would have rated it higher, it pulls the tongue dry in a positive way (not experienced this before). Mossy.

Very long, dynamic and complex. Wow.

Cadenhead recently announced that they will discontinue their Small Batch series. Why on earth? This is such a successful series; especially the ones bottled at older age. Like this one, which was part of a vintage lineup with my friends.

I tasted a few Dufftown's before. All very fruity; typical Speyside. But they all vanished when I tasted this one. Full of tropical fruit. Beautiful sweet and fruity mouth feeling. Very long finish

This a great example of an old style and exceptionally high quality bourbon maturation! We tasted this sample blindly and it smelled so familiair but I couldn’t get to it.. after Dufftown being revealed I immediately got it. Lately I had an 1988 Dufftown also CA, and this was exactly that but then a bit better on every aspect.
    • Nose
Immediately that classic musty, dusty blanket laying over this dram. Below this blanket is a beautiful and variated tropical fruit basket! It gives mango, pineapple, coconut and lychees. Besides that, very well matured bourbon spices are pleasantly present. A really deep sensation of vanilla and nutmeg.
    • Taste
On the taste it’s oily and waxy. It’s incredibly well balanced and elegant! It’s fresh, sweet and rather thick bodied. It has some very pleasant sweet honey like flavors, combined with fresh but very ripe and mature fruits. Excellent stuff!!
    • Finish
On the finish fresh green herbal freshness appear together with tropical citrus fruits, caramel and refined oak. It’s giving a great long pleasing experience. Very mature and ripe and intense!

      Top class quality!
