Whisky Reviews for Glen Elgin 1990 SV

  1. dRambo scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

Great nose, interesting stand-alone palate, quite complex, well balanced - classic Speyside profile with rough edges - far away from what you get even with old age but only boring lemon in the entry segment.
    • Nose
Apple, mandarin, apricot later rather nectarine, fresh lemon, fresh juicy "green" wood, but also freshly cut platters, spicy vegetal with tannins and herbal notes but without resin, mint, malt,

it exudes a fresh orange tic tac fruit note with elements of citrus - fruity but fresh at the same time - fits perfectly into the summer weather. Sweet oak flavors with many interwoven herbal notes, lemon sponge cake, yeast dough and delicate bitter notes ranging from coffee to cocoa and have slight influence of nuts.

Very oily and dense nose .. the scent stream outstrips me on the sofa and even with a light breeze in the meadow.
    • Taste
sweet, a lot of grated oak, furniture polish, wax, nutmeg, nutmeg, caraway, juniper, rose water, orange peel with lots of orange oil, ginger, coconut cream, sometimes it is slightly soapy - not that it would bother me - I have only a brief Alepposeifenassoziiation (laurel and olive oil) - with even more time and a 2nd dram. no more soap - it's lavender and honey
    • Finish
flattering, strong, herbaceous, in the waves decaying wood flavors with sweetness and rather little fruit. Dark chocolate creamy. Medium long with tendency to long.

  4. Schnappsdrossel scored this whisky 86 points Expert Senior

Less bourbon, but also less intensity in general. Compared to a 25 year old of the same vintage from Signatory.
    • Nose
Less bourbon-heavy. "Green" - mown grass, less ripe apples, block malt. With water: only weakens.
    • Taste
More intense alcohol. Less bourbon, plant sections, resin. Freshly whitened wood with water, a little vanilla, resin, block malt.
    • Finish
Long. First malt, cocoa, finally cake soil. And Pina Colada.
