After Rutter & Barrow now my 3rd Peat-AnCnoc - the tastiest, most pleasant, least experimentally-crazy, so far, tastes best after AnCnoc. For 60 € is still not enough for me.
    • Nose
slightly medical smoke, fresh fruit, apple, pear, peach, quite intense, slightly spicy / pungent
    • Taste
ashen, a bit salty, applesauce, milk chocolate, a dash of lemon, spicy (ginger, cloves, some pepper)
    • Finish
medium length, ash, chocolate, ginger, slightly bitter (lime)

If you like the combination of a light floral/fruity/sweet bourbon matured whisky with a gentle mainland smoke (as I do), well, here you will find it!

I know An Cnoc and peat combination does get knocked sometimes, maybe a bit simple but I do find this quite drinkable.

Peat and oil with a medicinal touch. Spiced with ginger and pepper and a fruity sweetness.
    • Taste

Entry with more peated smoke and ripe fruits. Garden herbs like rosemary and basil. Some bitterness near the end. (Almonds, marzipan ??)
    • Finish

Good finishn slightly bitter but not completely drying out.

N- Fresh sweet nutmeg extracts, white chocolate and burn bark smokes. Light and breezy at first with heavier nutty oil, roasted cashew emerged alongside moist floral scents, aged cigar wrapper, peppery and coastal aromas. Amicably light but not thin, mean can nose the goodies at pleasure without the punches, well structure.

P- Burnt rock salts and get more smokes dressed citrus-y on the retro-hale, delicious spicy honey.

F- Medium-long, direct sweet-salt peat and citrus mingled well. May smell light but get quite heady and weighty on palate with good solid texture.

Elegant dram with a very interesting nose and a good finish but I prefer a little less spiciness.
    • Nose
A very nice smoke and peat coming up first followed with a more iodine and campher touch ending in a fruity sweetness.
    • Taste
Very spicy coming in with a slight bitterness and ashes later on. Peaty aromas in combination with hot spices are dominant.
    • Finish
Long finish not drying out the mouth.

  12. Bosi scored this whisky 74 points Specialist

From the peated series of AnCnoc still one of the better, but also the cutter is not a highlight. Little complex with constant aromas, but well balanced.
    • Nose
Medical smoke from gauze bandages applies to lemon, lots of salt and cereals. However, many flavors do not show up.
    • Taste
The mouthfeel is balanced and the taste corresponds with the aroma: salty caramel, ash, grapefruit and menthol.
    • Finish
The finish is short and here too the lemon dominates with a little ginger.

  13. rottendon scored this whisky 84 points Connoisseur

His strength is approach and balance. Even if he is not unlike the two Rutter and Barrow, he is still most likely in the memory, and quite positive. Has clear fun potential, tasty and balanced. Priced, he also seems to be in order.

Notes from an online chat tasting.
    • Nose
The nose shows the most balanced of the three at the beginning. The smoke is slightly clearer again, citrus and caramel form into a harmonious whole without any dominant peaks. However, it lacks any depth, the nose remains despite the balance clearly behind that of the Barrows.
    • Taste
The cutter wins clearly in the mouth, even if the tribal closeness is also recognizable here. He has a stronger start and a much fuller mouthfeel. Also, the balance here is much more correct than with the other two. To the notes: caramel sweetness, a bit of menthol and back tart hints, the pepper is missing this time, but everything is beautifully integrated.
    • Finish
Here, as usual, short and without accents.
