Very different from today's bourbons! If you are looking for a fruity but still good and classic bourbon, this is the place for you. Basically really cool stuff, what they produced back then. Unfortunately, the alcohol is not particularly well integrated. That could have been better and then there would have been an 87+.

sweet, lots of caramel and vanilla, but also an unusually fruity note (including citrus) that one often looks for in vain in bourbons these days, honey, slightly pungent alcohol, woody, oak, a hint of non-smoky barbecue sauce, notes of burnt butter, a touch of old leather
    • Taste
      86 86
Spicy, tingly start on the tongue, sweet, juicy, sour fruit notes, clear oak, caramel, vanilla, some honey, nice flow of saliva, leather polish, coniferous forest, mild herbs
    • Finish
      85 85
medium-long, oak, woody, sweet, fruity (rather dark fruits), lots of vanilla, caramel, honey

Great old bourbon: one in the light & fruity league. It's a pleasure to drink when you don't like the big bold and sweet style in the world of bourbon.

A tad restrained, but with pleasant notes. It's friendly, not too heavy on shoe polish or old leather. A rather fruit driven bourbon, with tinned peach, cherry and orange zest. Behind that there is a light syrupy note, but not too expressive. Biscuit and a bit of spice complete the nose.
    • Taste
      85 85
Light to medium body, with much room for fruit, cereal and vanilla. Vanilla milkshake, tea biscuit, cooked/tinned summer fruit. There is no fat viscous structure that sometimes can be found, it's rather lean and absent of syrupy notes (apart from a bit of toffee). There is a moderate amount of spice (cinnamon, cardamom, a bit of ginger) and wood.
    • Finish
      83 83
Not too long, but with a pleasant combination of spice, wood, a bit of leather now, and that biscuit-y and fruity feel.
