  1. St. Pauli scored this whisky 91 points Connoisseur

What a stunner... It's old & dirty (that's the way I like it, ah ha, ah ha), has sufficient power and is not harsh at all.
    • Nose
It starts with grain, some glue (vanishes quickly), dried fruits (sherry), sugar, tinned peach, apricot jam, honey. It's slightly smoky and oily (engine oil), and has a salty character of Arbroath smokies with peat. Later it becomes a little more citric (mainly oranges).
    • Taste
Oily, but not very thick, with sufficient power/oomph, not too sweet. The darker side shows, with dark smoky tea (lapsang souchong), salt, dried fish. Then, oloroso influences (oxidized sherry), dates, almonds, walnuts, grain and barley, honey, and fennel. Unbelievably complex, dirty and fruity together.
    • Finish
Medium long, savoury, nutty, earthy: ginger, herbs, liquorice, some smoke, roasted nuts.

Quite closed initially... second sniff... yup, definitely not very aromatic, especially after drinking a rather fruity Irish prior. Putty, mash potato, Japanese sake?
    • Taste
      87 87
Somewhat creamy texture with sweet salty notes along with plasticine. Definitely something old and musty, but I've had some mustier blends. Very low strength.
    • Finish
      82 82
Very flat finish. Remarkably unremarkable finish. One of those whiskies just dies down at the end.

Pretty drinkable even so not that promising on the nose
    • Nose

Little nutty, some sherry notes, hints of vegetables, whiffs of dried fruits
    • Taste
      87 87
      Oily, creamy, sherry notes, nutty
    • Finish

      Medium long, warm

A bit thin but nicely sherried, quite drinkable

This is a different bottle to my last note, this note as per the one in the picture.
Nice nose, no off notes and the palate is real quality, the malt content is high with, quite syrupy with a nice dose of spice and various toffee notes with a very faint hint of orange chocolate.
A quality older blend with an excellent lively spicy finish

To anyone who ignores blend here is a cautionary tale:-

Don`t be a malt snob as you will miss out on blends like this. Old blends can be very different to new stuff out now as the malt content is usually far higher than nowadays and because most distilleries did not bottle as a single malt many of the best casks were used in the blend.

This is a good example, I have had a few of this blend, some of the later ones were not as good as this one but this is on the money.

It's a sweet one, a classic old blend,
    • Nose
This smells like an old blend, loads of toffee, fudge, hints of orange, digestive biscuits, a little ginger, candle wax, really old varnish that has been in a tin for years.

I had a Crawford's 5 star like this but the palate was rubbish so here`s hoping.
    • Taste
Quite thick and viscous and it is really sweet, very syrupy on orange chocolate, fizzy plum, spices, cream and then a few pineapple notes.

More fruit emerges and more syrup with a caramel finish,

It is waxy like old Clynelish are, coats the roof of your mouth.
    • Finish
Decent length remaining sweet until the end.
