      Fruity, woody, very slightly maritime

      great oak, beautiful exotic fruit, sweet and minimally tart at the same time.

      here comes the minimal peat for the first time

      An interesting mole, a wonderful multi-faceted, deep aroma, in no way inferior to the releases of the Soloist series, peat here is only slightly indicated, hidden by a lemon-perfume veil; in the taste / finish he comes to the fore with citrus and oak components; it looks quite eclectic, compared to the same Soloists, but I wonder - I can not say that peat Kavalan is contraindicated or weakly combined with the base, there is a charm in it, although a step below the sherry or wine soloists, on the barrel it is difficult to say, rather sherry, and in general - another quality representative of Taiwan.
    • Nose
      Open, dry, black tea (welding), dry leaves, herbarium, lemon peel, bergamot, light perfume shades, light and air peat, earth notes, sandalwood, Indian incense, oriental sweets, rahat-lukum and the like, fried nuts , a few smells of the barnyard, dirty dried apricots, herbal tones - yarrow, motherwort, tansy;
    • Taste
        Powerful, invigorating, here already went peat in all its glory, lemon, lemon peel, burnt crackers, ash, astringent oak.
    • Finish
      Sour, astringent, oak-peat, lemon, lime, bergamot.

    The whisky is not as pungent as it sounds to my notes, but also peatier than I expected. Unfortunately, the bed for the peat smoke is too woody and one-dimensional spicy for me.
    • Nose
      Sweet, spices, especially cumin, cloves, nutmeg. Then a hint of peat. Spear, spices, sweet, no fruit.
    • Taste
      The peat is quite present here, which amazes me. Otherwise come massive spicy notes and some wood to the palate. The whisky is no longer sweet, rather dry on wood and peat smoke.
    • Finish
      Spices, peat, oak and here again a light sweetness.

    A softly peated, slighty fruity whisky that Kavalan can probably do with its eyes closed, assuming they can get enough Islay casks. Like many wood-driven Kavalans, it is good, but just missing the extra complexity that will make it a 90 point whisky for me. A good whisky nonetheless and the first peaty kavalan I've tried.

    Top notch.
    • Nose
      Salty and peaty (the wet variant), dunnage warehouse. Vanilla, toffee, peach, dried apricot, pineapple, tangerine, mint and almons paste.
    • Taste
      Umami! Peaty and fruity, with peach, orange, apricot.
    • Finish
      Long, relatively sour, but pleasantly so. Citrus/lemon squash, peach, pepper, red fruit.

    There's not much left to say here other than that this is a great whisky.
    • Nose
      This smells absolutely fantastic! One of those whiskies that I could just nose for hours. Wood smoke, but not very dominant. Lots of citric fruits, more of the tangerine and maybe grapefruit variety. A hint of almond (oil). There's a touch of glue that stays in the background throughout. This reminds me more of an older Highland-style than it does of the modern Islay peaters.
    • Taste
      Fat and oily with hints of wood smoke, dusty oak and a good amount of black pepper. It's still pretty smooth though. A bit chalky with some lemon and lime. Waxy too.
    • Finish
      Raspberry, plums and lemon with a fading wood smoke and some oakiness.
