Very good young laph a little brutal, but nicely complex.
    • Nose
Quince and candied orange. Freshly beaten cream. Black pepper. Pineapple peel. Green wood.
A Christmas dinner with gently lit clementines.
    • Taste
On the palate it is creamy, on yellow fruit, nuts, graphite, pineapple, pencil lead.
      Light flower of salt, spices.
    • Finish
Final on candied yellow fruits, light peat, cold barbecue.

Nose: Lovely and sweet tarry phenolics. In fact a honey dripped fruit cocktail! Softer maybe than usual Laphroaig but still a super Islay sweetened nose.

Mouth: This tastes older than 18 years! There is the fruit again then pow we are in the zone we get from great Laphroaig’s of this vintage. Now there is the tropical fruits along with the fire and brimstone we are used to. Maybe less medicinal notes than usual. The body is fantastic, strong but not overwhelming.

Finish: Long and it has been a good one. The real ashiness now kicks in covering itself on top of the honeyed tropical fruits. A real buzz!

Only (cough) £100 at the Whisky Show 2015 and better than the also very good show bottling from TWE. I think they jacked the price up when it went to full release. Now to track down the other Laphroaig’s from this BBR batch!

Absolutely fantastic Laphroaig. Seems much older than it is.

Subtle, with an elegant and complex blend of tart and fruity notes on the one hand, and others delicately smoked, earthy and peaty on the other. A delicate, harmonious and balanced Laphroaig, where the wood plays it muted unlike the OB. Excellent.

    N: Clean
T: Oily and developing more slick, wow!
F: It was always building up to an inevitable [and positive conclusion] but it took its time. A delectable, ethanol-light, long, smoky, bitter oak, peaty finish.
C: Good one. Berry’s do it again, and again.

    Scores a B+ [89]

from a refil bourbon cask as the guys from BR told me at the TWE whiskyshow 2015

    n:fruity,coastal,subtle peat,peaceful

m:sweet, smoky, saline but not salt, subtle medicinal notes, sweet aromatic smoke, vanilla, fruits(bourbony plus some tropical),some bourbony wood spicies as well

    f:long and velvet

(the balance between the fruits the wood and the laphroaig smokiness is perfect)
