[November, 2018} Why not try an older Family Casks? If it is still available it cannot be exceptional, or...

...to me, it is! This is a close-to-perfection matured Traditional Scotch with all the delicate bold and creamy old-style sherry flavours that vanished so sadly after the paxarette ban of 1989. The nose is a little shy but both the taste and finish are bold, impressive and very, very tasty. Whoever wants to try a clean and rich old-style sherried whisky go for this - there will not be that many options to buy one in the future...
    • Nose
      91 91
The colour is very dark at mahogany and the nose offers a delicate and complex profile of fine sherry aromas in a sweet malty and spicy wooden framework. This is actually very good and somehow in-between the old and the modern sherry style. Very interesting to explore and enjoyable to sniff without any off-note. After some time of breathing the sweet oloroso grape aromas grow stronger what is tasty. I like this nose!
    • Taste
      92 92
The taste is sweeter than the nose with stronger oloroso sherry, barley sugary and honey flavours in an appropriate spicy wooden framework. Wow, this truly is exceptional and there are some fine layers to explore (if you chew it long enough). No flaw, maybe just a little imbalance towards the sweet flavours (but hey, who does not like these adorable sweeties? I do!).
    • Finish
      92 92
The dram arrives warming and coating on the palate with no distracting moment whatsoever, a very nice mouthfeel indeed. The finish is long and adds more chocolatey notes that are delicious. No bitter or drying moments here either - this cask was bottled exactly at the right time. Water releases some more aromas and turns the taste smoother - I like it both neat and reduced to about 46% abv.
