  1. Kantenmechaniker scored this whisky 90 points Connoisseur

A really good Lagavulin, 2015 was apparently a good year, one of the better Lagavulin in recent years. Great sherry influence, super integrated.
    • Nose
clear smoke, campfire, greasy, salted meat, salt, a little sweetness lies above it, chocolate, whole milk, a breeze of cinnamon, raisins, almonds, mint, ash, grapefruit, a little time in the glass is good for him, he is getting better and more intense
    • Taste
oily, intense, smoke, sweet, raisins, also slightly sweet and tart grapefruit, great, chocolate, here bittersweet, great mouthfeel, some salt, does not need water
    • Finish
long-lasting, warming, salt on the tip of the tongue, sweetness on the palate, a hint of cinnamon, the smoke lasts a long time, grape skin, beautiful

    Bottle 2519.
Very good, we smell more bourbon on the nose, then sherry in the mouth.

Cold ash, oyster, Embrun. Fleur de sel.
Solvent, gentian, the basis of lagavulin bourbon cask. Almond paste, nuts. Cashew nut.
      Lemon confit, zest.
Medicinal, camphor. Nice woody. Oily peat, light charcoal.
    • Taste
      88 88
On the palate it is soft, attenuated by oily peat.
      Cold ash, tobacco, black pepper.
      Lightweight leather.
      Lemon candy. Thyme, root.
      Light undergrowth, damp earth.
    • Finish
      89 89
Long and honeyed finish, on cold ashes, peat, tobacco. Gentian.

    a beautiful Lagavulin
    Elegance meets wild west
    • Nose
      a Laga nose:
      slightly acrid smoke
Lemon, smooth herbs, spicy white pepper
Fish in the old shoe, flowers on the grill
Bacon in an old saddlebag, the burned hut still smokes
    • Taste
      oily smooth at the start
      sweet peppery
warm ash smokes on the palate
Grasses and flowers with lemons and fish
      freshly smoked bacon
      Tobacco stays on the throat
    • Finish
      long and tasty
      changing notes
      Chocolate powder, barrel wood
smoke is still rising from your throat
Your palate is getting a little bit bitter

  4. Calmar scored this whisky 89 points Connoisseur

A good, calm, moderate Ayla, everything is very strict, smoke and peat are abundant, but not excessive, something fruity in the background emphasizes the basic tone, but it remains there, the development becomes more spicy, crisp, but at the same time remains very light, airy.
    • Nose
Restrained, dry, soft peat and smoke, coniferous wood, lemon slice, mineral notes - stone crumb, ash; daikon, cabbage, sweet candy motifs in the background, tropical fruits
    • Taste
Soft, rich, peat, smoke, tart oak, sweet fruit substrate, a little pepper, ginger.
    • Finish
Spicy, warming, dry, peat, sour fruit shades, astringent oak, lemon zest, ginger, candy, metallic acidity.

[May, 2017]  I had this during the Brand Ambassador tasting with Donald at the Feis Ile.

The colour is pale straw and the texture shows slow legs and tears.  The nose is punchy first (due to the high abv) but after you adopt to this a very phenolic and vanilla sweet profile develops.  It arrives much smoother on the palate as one might think after the nose.  Neither hot nor peppery, but nicely coating and a little drying (metallic).  The taste is vanilla-sweet and smokey/phenolic just like the nose. The finish is long, chocolatey and again a little drying (cold ashes, metallic).  This dram is an excellent swimmer, so add a fair share of water to unlock all the hidden flavours and aromas.  A nice Lagavulin but not the most impressive one...

Music is in the air - and smoke.
Reminiscent of the best 12 CS of the past, with the elegant citrus ashiness and the charming oiliness. Musically located between cool jazz and danceable funk rock - very groovy!

A nice offering from Lagavulin. The nose is the highlight. Unfortunately the palate is a bit messy and all over the place. Lacks the sweetness I generally enjoy from a Lagavulin. Definitely not my favorite limited release from the distillery, but an enjoyable dram nonetheless.

Opens up with an herbal vegetal note; earthy peat; sea salt; creamy vanilla; honey; rich caramel
    • Taste
      84 84
Wave of burnt rubber; lemon juice; BBQ meats; black pepper; bitter oak; seaweed; peanut oil
    • Finish

Long, oily finish; wood spice; earthy peat; dark chocolate

Excellent Lagavulin, very similar to the LE 12yo.

Tried at the outrageously priced SAWA bar in Tokyo.
