As mentioned below this is a cask split with whiskybroker but also two other bottlings:

Tasted and scored during a blind tasting competition in May/June 2017. (PO17)

Tasty dram with good body, fruity together with some typical offnotes; rubber, leather, soap.

went for a Tobermory and was correct :)

Tasted this blind. Looked like a coastal whisky to me, guessing its an Islander. Going for Talisker because of the hint of smoke and extreme saltiness.
    • Nose
Sharp, but also sweet and soft (does that make sense?). A hint of butterscotch on the nose. Pleasant. Peaches, banana, lightly peated on the background. Solvent, earthy. After being in the glass for a while some red fruits like cherry and raspberry appear in the background.
    • Taste
Salty! Kelp, herbal, vanilla, honey, lightly sour, nectarine, bitter with a hint of tropical fruit. Somebody just threw the Atlantic in my face.
    • Finish
Sweet and sour candy, warm, hot like jalapeños on the palate. Bitter, mint. Takes a long time and keeps up that kick of salt all the way to the end. A bit too salty if you ask me.

  5. Karstman scored this whisky 89 points Expert Junior

Solid dram, very complete but missing just a little bit of depth to make it stellar. A littel bit a-typical but undeniably Tobermory.
    • Nose
A very light nose, very floral with wax, honey (maybe some beeswax) and light herbal notes.
    • Taste
Sweet and sour, reasonably oily and a burning sensatiom, not a bad one though. It's a obination of the higher alcohol and the peaty notes. It ends with warm hebrs and honey, like a mead but with 50 odd percent alcohol. Rather coastal like a light seabreeze on a hot summers day.
    • Finish
Quite full bourbon finish, sweet and warm with vanilla and some herbs. The peatyness also lingers.

Blind tasting. Recognised it as a Tobermory as it reminded me a lot of the 1995 RBTW. In direct comparison, it appears less mature though, especially due to that slight off-putting thing in the nose.
    • Nose
Malt, honey, vanilla, grass and apple. Later peach and dough. Water releases an unpleasant scent of cheap fig liquor.
    • Taste
Malt, honey and vanilla. Later dough, which turns into cardboard when adding water. Then also a little citrus and again that fig liquor.
    • Finish
      Honey, malt, lime and almond.

  7. Sandman scored this whisky 83 points Connoisseur

    Blind tasted during ProefOlympics 2017
    • Nose
Melon, pineapple, apple, ripe banana, peach, floral honey, hint of rubber, anise, pear, caramel, hazelnuts, hint of nutmeg, lime and coconut
    • Taste
Cotton candy, pineapple, peach, rubber, hazelnut, nutmeg, citrus zest, coconut and hint of anise, ripe banana.
    • Finish
Medium, dry, tropical fruit, vanilla, nuts and citrus zest

  8. Toffie76 scored this whisky 83 points Expert Senior

A little rough. Supports a water addition. Lack a bit of thickness and complexity.
    • Nose
Lively, young, fresh, fruity, vanilla. Some coconut, some spices and a little too much alcohol. The set is younger than the 20 years shown.
    • Taste
Frank attack, lively but flexible. A lot of fresh fruit and vanilla. Development is more cereal. Follows a touch of pepper and a lot of alcohol. With water, this point becomes more anecdotal.
    • Finish
Bitterness, spices and a malty and vanilla return at the end.

While nosing and tasting this expresion I detected a lot of similarities with the Tobermory 10YO (OB), so I grabbed the bottle and poured a glass just to compare it. The 20YO has a bit more detectable age and dusty tones to it, but the 10YO is a lot more balanced and has a lot more depth of flavour. So, in my humble opinion, I would rather go for the distilleries 10YO than this independent expression and not only for a cost point of view.

This seems to be a split cask with the Whiskybroker.co.uk which is less than half the price:: https://www.whiskybase.com/whisky/72455/tobermory-1995-whb
    • Nose
A fresh, rich and spicy whisky with aromas of licorice root, licorice, bayleaf, hint of aniseeds, heather honey, coconut, pepper, cinnamon, allspice, hint of mint, lemon oil, hint of vinegar, floral tones, hay, plums, pecan nuts, sultanas, fennel, cardboard, citrus tones, hint of thyme and very subtle oak.
    • Taste
A powerful, rich and pricy whisky with aromas of Citrus, lemon oil, lemon zest, honey, cinnamon, black pepper, chili pepper, subtle tannins, bouquet garni, hint of orange, golden syrup, sweet oily vanilla, grapefruit, fennel seeds, subtle camphor, coriander seeds, white chocolate, golden sultanas, white wine, and oak.
    • Finish
A medium en slightly drying finish with aromas of honey, cinnamon, citrus lemon oil, soft bitter tannins, hint of dried fruits and subtle oak.
