If you are on a malt treasure hunt, watch out for the word 'discontinued'. GlenDronach 15 was easily the best whisky of the distillery's core range. The nose is overwhelmingly complex with balsamic vinegar, overripe berries, raisins, maraschino cherries and a touch of mint. A rich and powerful sherry arrival underscores the caliber of the casks used in maturation. Notes of coffee, dark chocolate, cinnamon and walnuts mingle with dried fruits, herbs and tannins. Substantial, savory and pleasantly spicy in the finish, this bottling is a real beauty of a Single Malt!

So I'll keep this short because I was expecting a lot more with all the hype that was being produced around the bottle. For me a "yes" good 15 he. But that's it, please. Unfortunately, I cannot understand the PLV at> 200 €. Sorry
    • Nose
Orange peel mixed with sweet tobacco. Strong berry notes with herbaceous grass. Very fruity and leathery.
    • Taste
The start is hearty with spices in a leather bag. Oily with a strong fruit note from apples to apricots. Sweet, nutty impression with a slight bitterness, but completely ok. So he's doing a good number in the mouth. Respect!
    • Finish
Medium with espresso notes and the dark chocolate as expected. Malty and sweet with spicy oak.

  3. Calmar scored this whisky 91 points Connoisseur

Bravo Glendronach, extremely successful Molot, powerful and rich in all components, a single, monolithic, beautiful balance, bright character, multifaceted and deep, nimble, and very inexpensive. Excellent
    • Nose
Fruit-wine, berry jam, dried fruits, raisins, a lot of raisins, dried apricots, prunes, apple jam, toffee, cream, light carpenter-lacquer notes - multifaceted, saturated, dense - very good.
    • Taste
Sweet raisins, an explosion of pepper, bitterness of oak, powerful and rich, lemon peels, creamy toffee.
    • Finish
Continuation of taste - spices and oak bitter against the background of raisins and dried fruits, grapefruit crusts, burnt sugar, bitter chocolate, light sour fruit compote.

  4. wisekyofcourse scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

a Glendro base with a remarkable ease of tasting, like a blend of home, less strong typicity, but a lot of global characters.
    • Nose
fine sherry, sweet, grassy (hay and freshly cut herbs!), sweet spices, sweet and woody back with sweet caramel and maderized fruits, a little malty!
then wet wood and fruits on black fruits, walls and dried.
    • Taste
warmth in the mouth, wood, ripe fruits, spices, dark chocolate, with a remarkable sweetness of scents, less pronounced than batch, but very palatable.
back grassy and dusty.at the fruit level, more on the candied tangerine.

  5. SilentBeing scored this whisky 90 points Member Senior

An exceptionally well balanced sherry intense whisky. If you prefer a regular sherry bomb you won’t go wrong with the Allardice, but the Revival is to me slightly more complex and interesting. A modern classic, no less.
    • Nose
Distinct, complex and heavily sherried nose. Notes of dark chocolate, walnut and molasses with a little vanilla. Plenty of dark fruits; raisins, prunes and maraschino cherries. A hint of fermentation like balsamic vinegar in the back.
    • Taste
Full and intense sherry flavour. The arrival is sweet, but not overly so, with notes of toffee, oranges, raisins, wallnuts and chocolate. The sweetness is perfectly balanced by notes of coffee and slightly sour cherries. Moderately spicy and slightly salty toward the finish with a hint of cinnamon and anise.
    • Finish
Long, dry and mouthwatering. Spice, dark chocolate, cherries and oak. In the end a lingering sweetness with a hint of cherries.

  6. Bart&Claudia scored this whisky 89 points Expert Junior

Oily, full, great texture. 15 years, yeah right ;) One of those drams I wish would've never changed.
    • Nose
Overripe grapes going on raisins, woodsap, almonds, stewed pears, pralines, wet leather jacket.
    • Taste
Herbs allover, spiced biscuits and almond paste, toasted nuts (almonds, walnuts and pecan), dried fruits, leather, lovely oak, white wine accidity, mold.
    • Finish
Bitter at first with loads of pepper, lingering accidity and sweet spices. The pralines are back but much darker now. Keeps changing, unrelenting.

  7. Blo scored this whisky 90 points Expert Senior

Excellent. There is no other word. What a shame that the price of this whisky continues to rise, slowly but surely. And that it becomes more and more rare. An undeniable success, and one of my favorite "affordable" sherry.
    • Nose
Sherry, of course. But it is remarkably well done and this sherry is nothing overwhelming. Beautiful notes of old noble wood furniture, soy sauce, balsamic vinegar and humus in the rainforest. Beautiful, complex.
    • Taste
Nice attack, nervous and precise. Dried fruits, dates, figs, grapes. Small woody kick. It is very complex and the aromas are sent back to each other. Really different from the nose but just as successful.
    • Finish
Long, on a fruity dryness and slightly sweet.

  8. WhiskyLovingPianist scored this whisky 90 points Connoisseur

N: Such a marked contrast to the modern Macallan 12 [2016] WB. Not only in the arbitrary extra three years+ but mainly in the calibre of the casks that give a far richer depth. Added to that are the hints of mineral peat tones in the mix that indicate this is a winner from the off.
T: Rich, fruity oily, salivating mouthfeel and some candle wax. Again, compared to the Mac 12, it's richer, fruitier, deeper and oh so vibrant but without that crazy 'zing' that is akin to the modern styled/engineered, first fill NAS & young whiskies of today.
F:  I'm digging those moorish sugars coming from the sherry with that mineral peat detected on the nose - oh and those vegetal notes and chocolate getting involved at the death. The wood is more than equal to the spirit and vice versa - or more succinctly, equally matched. The sherry is never obtrusive.
C: Dave broom says that the quality of casks at Macallan is reported to be low. It's fair to say that the cask quality at Glendronach have been rather high for some years now. This bottle is a later [2015] version WB bottled just before the Revival was phased out. I think Glendronach gave their followers a good send-out batch. Looking forward to the revival's revival. Looking forward to the revival's revival.

    Scores an A-

I wonder how you guys get hands on a 2009 bottling for your recent reviews...

  10. HammerHead scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

Nose: Dark fruits, blueberries, plums and raisins with a profound spicyness of nutmeg, clear oak wood and some cinnamon.

Taste: more of the dark red fruits and clear sherry overtones. Turns bitter in the back of the mouth due to the heavyness of the sherry cask oak wood.

Finish: dark chocolate bitterness and lots more wood. Even tends a bit towards what chewing on a log of oak wood would probably taste like.

Overall a very good whisky but a little heavy on wood influence in the aftertaste. Apparently very active casks are used for this expression, I probably should try the 12 yo next to it.

    Notes from 3/5/15:

The quintessential heavily sherried malt? Maybe that's too bold of a statement. That said, Glendronach delivers to the sherry heads on this one. An excellent whisky.
    • Nose
      90 90
Fresh and mellow. Salted caramels, tobacco, rubber smell like at a tire shop. Sherry nuttiness.
    • Taste
      87 87
Smooth and big. Rubbery again yet somehow well-balanced - salty, caramel, coffee.
    • Finish
      87 87
Starts just like you took a sip of amontillado. Then again with the rubber then turns fruity. Blueberry? Candied in the end. This one is an adventure.

      89 89
Intense, full and rich, with leather, cocoa and coffee. Some honeyed ginger, toffee, and maple syrup. You can feel the cask influence is really strong here, on top of the sherry, there are some very old, damped wooden notes.
    • Taste
      88 88
Fresh and sweet arrival, with figs, ginger, honey, treacle, a little bit of wood smoke, dark chocolate, also rum like palate.
    • Finish

Dark chocolate, nutty, with a slight hint of salty tang. A rather long and warm finish.

Fantastic stuff. Unlike any other 15yo sherried whisky... but that's partly because this is about 18yo with 15yo label. Also, it was distilled at a time when Glendronach used fire stills instead of current steam stills. Only reason it doesn't score higher is because it lacks a bit of depth and richness on the palette.

Didn't disappoint, well up to my expectation! The very good balance of fruitiness and oak. Its a very well crafted sherry whisky with all the lovely dried fruits and without those modern sherry spiciness! The sweet old 15, the golden age of scotch whisky strikes again.
    • Nose
Wow! Intense sherry notes, with dark fruits (prunes, raisins and blackberry). Some chocolate, tobacco, mint, and old dusty oak at the very end.
    • Taste
SHERRY da-bomb! Oily, big and rick mouth-feel! Raisins, prunes, blackberry all present loud and clear from the first sip! Dark chocolate, some vanilla, little dustiness and most important the good old spice of older sherry whisky!
    • Finish
Medium long with dark chocolate and dark fruit sweetness.

    Review from my blog:

    http://thewhiskyagents.com

An elegant sherried start on raisins, dried apricots, figs and dates. Also a nice touch of wood spice from a good cask. I find some shortbread and toffee as well, some menthol and a whiff of balsamic vinegar. The taste is sweet and gets drier after a bit, displays a wonderful consistency which is creamy and full. Here too the premium casks show how important they are, well integrated and supporting the distillate with cinnamon, cloves and the whole “Christmas cake” works. Wet leaves in autumn are to be found as well. It feels like a classic Whisky and this gets backed up by the lovely aftertaste of a traditional dunnage warehouse. No need to say this is one of my favourite Whiskies to date. Marvellous. The “Revival” has not been available since 2015 much to the regret of many a Whisky lover. But it was said to return in 2018. We’ll see how Brown-Forman feels about that;)

At the beginning, a sweet fermented grapes are killed, almost like an old Madeira wine. Behind it a light freshness, menthol sweets. Sun-ripened oranges. Sweet pasta in a pastry shop. Great aroma, like a holiday in the Iberian Peninsula
    • Taste
Honey sweet at the beginning, the oranges stay. Vanilla comes through. Tannins. Wonderful Sherrynoten of dark fruits. Towards the end, spicy and bitter. Walnut cake.

Absolutely briliant whisky, I was lucky enough to secure a couple of bottles when they were still very affordable. Love the nose with deep smell of sultanas, chocolate and some sulphur and acidity. Delivers in the sherried taste department with quite a long and spicy finish.

My bottle was bought and opened on 9th November 2014 (Jones’). Rich, well aged fruitcake, sherry, walnuts  and savoury notes in abundance, Opens beautifully, well defined and articulated structure. Classic dryish/ bitter finish. A 'Sherry Bomber's must try whisky - this one is elegant and engaging.

The smell of the bottom of the glass the following day is glorious. Do not wash out your Glen Cairn! - Rinse it with a less convincing whisky!...

It seemed mostly solid-standard at the time, and now it's a modern legend. The sherry is just so wonderful, not cloying or overdone as in so many other malts. Will it be different when it returns? How much of this was actually older than 15 years old? I'm stocking up now.
    • Nose
Apple, spice, caramel, maple syrup, toffee. Very prominent sherry oak, but somehow also vanilla and something of a bourbon-y note.
    • Taste
Hefty molasses mouthfeel. More apple and oak. Obvious sherry, but less so than on the nose. Richly sweet and juicy, turning to spice and pepper.
    • Finish
Long. So long. Complex. Succulent fruits turning malty and nutty. With late wafts of tobacco and ash.

Excellent matter, a shame that it is not practically at the moment. As far as my comparison with Glenfarclas 15 is concerned, the aroma is richer, the sherry is more appealing, but Glenfarclas scores with its peaty tones, thanks to which it wins in reverberation. Around and around 2: 1 in favor of Glendronach (after an extension :))

Very nice balanced whisky. Clear sherry influences in the color, smell and taste. Smell is already very complex and pleasant, hardly alcohol, certainly not predominant.
Taste is nicely full and complex, fruity and sweet, with chocolate influences. These flavors also come back in the fairly long aftertaste. Total not sharp / peppery.

a nice whisky; one in which, for once, I liked the exit best. Is that a great malt ?: yes, definitely! Can I understand the hype around the 15er ?: No, somehow not.
    • Nose
      dark fruits and nuts; Raisins and caramel apples; sweet milk chocolate and Mon Cherie; Two-pack and oak in the background; the aromas are all very well integrated and do not appear set;

    • Finish
      long with very beautiful oak notes; very oily; there is a great, dark sweetness on the palate;

The nose is astounding. It's incredibly intense, rich and complex. The palate and finish aren't bad at all, but not as good as the nose either. At the tail-end of the finish I get a yeasty/sulphury note which is not exactly pleasant, but neither off-putting.
    • Nose

Great, just great, perfect example of Oloroso bringing a perfect balance between sweet fruity notes and savoury, meaty ones.
    • Nose
Starts on fresh cocoa pods. Not your typical powdered cocoa but something more organic, more buttery. Redcurrants and brioche, clearly, the whole glazed with raspberry vinegar. So this is really the "core picture" of the nose, and now its starts evolving around that central theme. First variation : old dusty wood, like the one covered with spiderwebs that you find in your grandma's attic, and smoked ham, with then a combo of blackcurrants, cuberdons and soy sauce. Second variation : Slightly metallic, with "Benromach notes" such as gunpowder and autumn leaves. Hot chestnuts and cirtrusy pine sap. Third variation : my favourite. Basically, a splendid savory episode. A tajine made of the greatest couscous with this meaty side again as well as sweet cherry tomatoes, raisins, coriander, thyme and balsamic vinegar. Ouch. Great.
    • Taste
Yes, yes, yes. Just so evident and satisfying. Fresh arrival on plain raspberries shifting immediately towards dark chocolate then dried candied blueberries, then tannic red wine bringing a very balanced oakiness, giving the whole a very structured character. Mocha and dates. Great mouthfeel, gets more and more chewy. Quite juicy and acidic towards the end with blood oranges and lychees.
    • Finish
The two throne pretenders are oak and blackcurrant definitely. Cocoa and coffee are still hanging around though, with a faint trace of coal, quite suprisingly. The acidity is carried on by molasses and coca-cola, in quite a nice way, even if the whole is frankly quite shy here. Which is a bit of a let-down, but that's being picky. Gets back on its former dusty side with a bit of black tea and eucalyptus.

As many of you probably already know, GlenDronach announced the phase out of their 15 Years Old Revival — fans of the distillery were in uproar, prices skyrocket and (virtual) shelves were emptied.  But, up until then, this expression was arguably one of the best bargains in the whisky world!

He has been on my list for a long time and now I'm curious what he has to offer. The color is strikingly dark. Is that the Oloroso sherry? He smells sweet, like pomace, apple compote, rotten pears. But a quick sip reveals why he is so popular. Oh, heavy onset, very fragrant, not a bit irritating, all very round, fruity, almost creamy. I take now smell was the carnation, which always bothers me personally something. But really good. My first whisky, which does not smell convincing, but tastes even better!

  79. Dramned! did not rate this whisky Expert Senior

Unfortunately, GlenDronach, who has become a cult whisky, hardly lives up to his reputation. The nose is great, but the palate disappoints. The extreme dryness I found to be inappropriate and disturbing, lacks the expected sweetness and complexity that the two different sherry barrels promise. The finish is then relatively short, leaving a beautiful spicy sherry note. That GlenDronach takes these 15-year-olds out of the program, I feel against many others as not particularly tragic. Especially since the prices are now rising so much that you get for almost the same money the 18 year old.
    • Nose
Nice color, at first the alcohol is still quite dominant, after some time in the glass then very mild, then comes a dark malty sweetness, pickled cherries, very fruity, strong oak
    • Taste
then surprisingly dry in the mouth, barely the expected sweetness, astringent, barely noticeable alcohol, woody spiciness
    • Finish
Departure relatively short, only the dry sherry reverberates in the throat longer.

An excellent sherry whisky and an example of the qualities that distinguish GlenDronach: excellent, well-matched barrels and the right balance between barrel and distillery character.
In 2015, he is a press release slowly disappear from the market, I will definitely put some bottles in stock. A perfect "Every Day Sherry Dram".
    • Nose
A flood of aromas breaks through the nose. It is time to divide: a lot of Olorso-Sherry, more fruity than sweet. Oranges, walnuts, raisins and also some sulfur. Sweet balsamic cream, such as strawberries, some earthy notes from the barrel are also included. The European oak is already very strong in the nose, almost reminiscent of a slight smokiness.
All in all, but very "clean" and not stuffy, as it is said so many Sherryfasswhisky.
    • Taste
Very powerful, the dominant European oak together with the alcohol for an impressively full and dense mouthfeel. Coffee, dark men's chocolate. Yummy bread with generously baked raisins, orange peel and lemon zest, as my grandmother used to cook for Christmas. Cinnamon, cardamom and a hint of rose water, not sweet enough for marzipan. A little ginger in the end brings a touch of sharpness.
    • Finish
Very long and fruity-dry. The oak plays its full strength in the mouth and leaves the saliva flow even long after swallowing the whisky.
Like a strong espresso, the revival brings wonderful bitterness and roasted aromas, which reverberate after a long time ...

A classic old school sherry bomb. In my opinion, the sulphur present complements the spirit in this instance.
    • Nose
Oloroso, slightly acetic, notes of fresh washing, and some sulphur.
    • Taste
A sweet arrival, with a touch of smoke, and some dark fruits.

    Quite pleasant and varied.

However, the individual flavor components swim quite unconnected and without obligation through space ...

Unfortunately, also appeared (slightly more pleasant than the 18 yo) sulfur in the vicinity of the distillery character - too bad ...

But who knows what happens when the bottle is open a few months ...

After some time a Tasting Note will appear.

Sherry bomb in really cool. I can understand you Glendronach is great. Grade 3 ++
    • Nose
Much sweeter and deeper than octarine. The Oloroso comes through strong and dominates the nose.

    • Taste
Beautiful sherry starts. I come to bananas and dark cherries. Delicious things. And above all, you notice the old and the balance.
    • Finish
      Medium long and spicy.

A very good whisky that can be drunk as well for tasting as for relaxation. A must have not to be missed, and that crushes many more expensive whiskys.
    • Nose
Mixture of reserve and eloquence: a malt that expresses itself while keeping secrets to explore. Chocolate stuffed with hazelnuts and raisins, chestnut cream, roasted hazelnuts, bitter orange zest, cinchona, old dusty library furniture, old Souillac plum, chestnut honey, hints of vanilla and rose water. A bit of paper from Armenia (a sulfur event on the drum), but extremely discreet and easy to forget, which is good news more! A fruity frame also (jam of apricots and figs). Cinnamon. Lemon zest. In short, it's complex.
    • Taste
The mouth is dry and well wooded as I like on sherry, with nuances of mushrooms, walnuts, chalk, dark chocolate, mousse, various cakes with overcooked fruits, currants, figs dry, date. Complex, again, but the body itself lacks a bit of corpulence for my taste.
    • Finish
Saline and woody, with this typical Oloroso taste of Glendronach from the official range.

    Un bon sherry finish !
    • Nose
Nez intéressant : pruneau, jus de cerises. Même du porto. L'alcool, puissant, est bien associé. Un peu de crème.
    • Taste
    • Finish
4 secondes. Fruit rouge. Poivre et amertume. Planche de bois.

When I first opened this bottle I decanted it right off. Having heard that this takes a while to open up. But I was still disapointed rating it an 86. Now that the bottle is half gone I have changed my vote to a 91  the whisky still feels the same it just seems like the volume has been turned way up. Initially the finish was the most disapointing part being almost non existent.  There is this orange menthol feeling that stays u long after your glass is empty. Allot of Other whiskies lose something as they sit In The bottle my last bottle uigeadail has lost almost all sherry influence by the time it was half way gone. Maybe that's the real reason Glendronach decided to name there 15 yr the Revival. As it needs to be revived  before its any good.

I had this one in a tasting session last night after a fresh vanlilla/anise/oak and peppery Longmorn and maybe it's because of that I didn't like it too much, for me this whisky was too much oily-sherry as in heavy sherry. The second and 3rd sip where remarkably better but still not convincing me as the sherry was too dominant for me.

The last 2 whiskies of the tasting where an Arran and a Bunnahabhain respectively peated and heavily peated and when grabbing the Glendronach after these or between these peated ones, the dronach was a perfect whisky to ease the peatmonsters in your mouth.

So ... I wouldn't buy it just for the Glendronach but I would grab it definately in a whiskytasting evening with friends to calm your senses in your mouth and then enjoy a sweet oily sherry bomb like this one

Probably one of the best sherried whiskies out there right now. Very
affordable too! Sometimes, I hear of sulfur in GlenDronach, but either
I’m not sensitive to it, or, from the three different expressions I have
tasted so far, I was lucky to have tasted from unsulfured batches. Who
    knows?
    • Nose
Incredible sweet sherry, tons of raisins and prunes. Intense aromas,
almost like a cognac. I can rarely ‘smell’ chocolate in a whisky, but
it’s definitely in this one. One of the best noses I have witnessed to
      date.
    • Taste
Very sweet! Crème brûlèe, more ripe black berries and raisins. I recon
46% abv is quite the minimum to tame these bouquet of flavors.
    • Finish
Goes on and on. As the sweetness is subsiding, the finish becomes drier.

A very tastefull whisky from the Highlands. Especially suitable for a digestive.
    • Nose
Malt and oak. Vanilla and sherry. Also a hint of honey. Leather. Fresh and spicy. Some chocolate and raisins. A bit buttery. Complex.
    • Taste
Very sweet and a bit oily. Spicy. Tones of sherry but also some honey. Dry.
    • Finish
Spicy and peppery. Then sweetness from sherry and vanilla and a hint of honey. Spices return at the end.

Being a whisky lover with a particular taste for sherry whiskies, this delivered all the way. A lovely sweet sherry whisky, but not overly sweet because of that lightly spiced influence.
    • Nose
Big sherry on the nose. Orange, citrus fruits. Chocolate and raisins, oak and malt. Vanilla and caramel sweetness. A bit leathery and lightly spiced, but fresh nonetheless.
    • Taste
A tad sharp on the tastebuds, obvious sherry, spicy vanilla. Not a big sweet monster as one might have expected. A bit oily. Leathery again, chocolate and fudge. Quite dry.
    • Finish
Warming and dry. A big spicy attack at first, with a light bitter note, but much sweeter after that. Vanilla and chocolate, malty and more fruity towards the end.

    Color :
    Amber
    Nose :
First sherry and then aeration come the fruits, the
caramel, orange and chocolate notes. Very expressive, there is
    would stay a long time.
    Mouth :
A little behind the nose, it disappoints me every time
that I meet this imbalance. Maybe it's from
    dilution?

    First of all,
sherry, then toffee, caramel, sulfur notes, spices
and sherry rancio in the final. Slight astringency.

    A drop of water
highlights citrus on the palate, especially lemon, confirmed
    by the dry extracts.

Superb complex nose, with rich oloroso to the fore. I was struggling to believe that this was a sub £50 malt! The taste and finish can`t quite deliver what the nose promises, but that`s not too surprising (otherwise this would cost several times more I guess). Kudos to the distillers for bottling at 46%. Benefitted from a couple of drops of water, bringing out even more complexity. Great whisky at a fantastic price.

This single malt enchants you immediately, putting a spell on you in no time. Hypnotizingly deep colour, fine complex aroma and refined taste of the 'Revival' will hardly leave anyone indifferent. Just a few drops of water won't spoil this elixir whatsoever, only reveal some hidden dimensions of the flavours.
    • Nose
Instantly rich, heavy sherry notes, confectioner's shop, honey cake with prunes and walnuts, greasy, mellow and mouthwatering. Reminiscent a little of armagnac as well. Dates, prune, dried figs, heather, raisins, grilled banana, vanillin. Flower garden, touch of wood glue, furniture lacquer, after that a hint of leather.
    • Taste
Bitter orange, walnut, creamy, sweet spice, somewhat malty, dry sweet walnut, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, syrup. Full-bodied, moderately pungent, dense, lacquer, leather (upholstery), plum jelly, apricot jam.
    • Finish
Medium long. Orange rind, zest, grapefruit pith, peppery nip, allspice?, sulphur, dried apricot, mildly sour, rough wine, drying tannin, milk chocolate, toffee apple.

This was a big hit this year at the WhiskyFest San Fransisco in Oct. I found the sherry was well balanced and very palatable. Couldn`t wait to find a bottle and add it. I really like that the whisky makers are stepping up the ABV and making it up to us the consumer to add drops of water to taste. I always have it neat and rarely add drops of water to even cask strength to really enjoy the work that goes into each batch. Look forward to the 21 yr Parliament, its also very good. Check out the shoplink in the states I added, they are one of the best around, ask for Forest.
