If you are on a malt treasure hunt, watch out for the word 'discontinued'. GlenDronach 15 was easily the best whisky of the distillery's core range. The nose is overwhelmingly complex with balsamic vinegar, overripe berries, raisins, maraschino cherries and a touch of mint. A rich and powerful sherry arrival underscores the caliber of the casks used in maturation. Notes of coffee, dark chocolate, cinnamon and walnuts mingle with dried fruits, herbs and tannins. Substantial, savory and pleasantly spicy in the finish, this bottling is a real beauty of a Single Malt!

An exceptionally well balanced sherry intense whisky. If you prefer a regular sherry bomb you won’t go wrong with the Allardice, but the Revival is to me slightly more complex and interesting. A modern classic, no less.
    • Nose
Distinct, complex and heavily sherried nose. Notes of dark chocolate, walnut and molasses with a little vanilla. Plenty of dark fruits; raisins, prunes and maraschino cherries. A hint of fermentation like balsamic vinegar in the back.
    • Taste
Full and intense sherry flavour. The arrival is sweet, but not overly so, with notes of toffee, oranges, raisins, wallnuts and chocolate. The sweetness is perfectly balanced by notes of coffee and slightly sour cherries. Moderately spicy and slightly salty toward the finish with a hint of cinnamon and anise.
    • Finish
Long, dry and mouthwatering. Spice, dark chocolate, cherries and oak. In the end a lingering sweetness with a hint of cherries.

Bravo Glendronach, extremely successful Molot, powerful and rich in all components, a single, monolithic, beautiful balance, bright character, multifaceted and deep, nimble, and very inexpensive. Excellent
    • Nose
Fruit-wine, berry jam, dried fruits, raisins, a lot of raisins, dried apricots, prunes, apple jam, toffee, cream, light carpenter-lacquer notes - multifaceted, saturated, dense - very good.
    • Taste
Sweet raisins, an explosion of pepper, bitterness of oak, powerful and rich, lemon peels, creamy toffee.
    • Finish
Continuation of taste - spices and oak bitter against the background of raisins and dried fruits, grapefruit crusts, burnt sugar, bitter chocolate, light sour fruit compote.

Oily, full, great texture. 15 years, yeah right ;) One of those drams I wish would've never changed.
    • Nose
Overripe grapes going on raisins, woodsap, almonds, stewed pears, pralines, wet leather jacket.
    • Taste
Herbs allover, spiced biscuits and almond paste, toasted nuts (almonds, walnuts and pecan), dried fruits, leather, lovely oak, white wine accidity, mold.
    • Finish
Bitter at first with loads of pepper, lingering accidity and sweet spices. The pralines are back but much darker now. Keeps changing, unrelenting.

Excellent. There is no other word. What a shame that the price of this whisky continues to rise, slowly but surely. And that it becomes more and more rare. An undeniable success, and one of my favorite "affordable" sherry.
    • Nose
Sherry, of course. But it is remarkably well done and this sherry is nothing overwhelming. Beautiful notes of old noble wood furniture, soy sauce, balsamic vinegar and humus in the rainforest. Beautiful, complex.
    • Taste
Nice attack, nervous and precise. Dried fruits, dates, figs, grapes. Small woody kick. It is very complex and the aromas are sent back to each other. Really different from the nose but just as successful.
    • Finish
Long, on a fruity dryness and slightly sweet.

N: Such a marked contrast to the modern Macallan 12 [2016] WB. Not only in the arbitrary extra three years+ but mainly in the calibre of the casks that give a far richer depth. Added to that are the hints of mineral peat tones in the mix that indicate this is a winner from the off.
T: Rich, fruity oily, salivating mouthfeel and some candle wax. Again, compared to the Mac 12, it's richer, fruitier, deeper and oh so vibrant but without that crazy 'zing' that is akin to the modern styled/engineered, first fill NAS & young whiskies of today.
F:  I'm digging those moorish sugars coming from the sherry with that mineral peat detected on the nose - oh and those vegetal notes and chocolate getting involved at the death. The wood is more than equal to the spirit and vice versa - or more succinctly, equally matched. The sherry is never obtrusive.
C: Dave broom says that the quality of casks at Macallan is reported to be low. It's fair to say that the cask quality at Glendronach have been rather high for some years now. This bottle is a later [2015] version WB bottled just before the Revival was phased out. I think Glendronach gave their followers a good send-out batch. Looking forward to the revival's revival. Looking forward to the revival's revival.

Nose: Dark fruits, blueberries, plums and raisins with a profound spicyness of nutmeg, clear oak wood and some cinnamon.

Taste: more of the dark red fruits and clear sherry overtones. Turns bitter in the back of the mouth due to the heavyness of the sherry cask oak wood.

Finish: dark chocolate bitterness and lots more wood. Even tends a bit towards what chewing on a log of oak wood would probably taste like.

Overall a very good whisky but a little heavy on wood influence in the aftertaste. Apparently very active casks are used for this expression, I probably should try the 12 yo next to it.

    Batch 2012.

Intense, full and rich, with leather, cocoa and coffee. Some honeyed ginger, toffee, and maple syrup. You can feel the cask influence is really strong here, on top of the sherry, there are some very old, damped wooden notes.
    • Taste
      88 88
Fresh and sweet arrival, with figs, ginger, honey, treacle, a little bit of wood smoke, dark chocolate, also rum like palate.
    • Finish
      88 88
Dark chocolate, nutty, with a slight hint of salty tang. A rather long and warm finish.
