A very good dram. Balanced and perfect.

My first taste of this and I thought it was awful and suspected it was a bad sample so I added some water which improved things adding a sweeter edge but this is really Woody for a 25 year.
As you go on there is faint hints of orange but the wood resurfaces and spoils everything, not for me.

  4. Tom na Gruagaich scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

Relatively dry sherry, but not unflattering. The Glen Grant 25y might have pleased me a little bit better.

  5. St. Pauli scored this whisky 86 points Connoisseur

    Good, but not extraordinary.
    • Nose
Dark sherry (the oxidised variants), prune, leather, a hint of fireworks and oxtail soup, sweet red fruit, and polished wood.
    • Taste
Rich and velvety, with pleasant at the end. Prune and leather are most dominant, followed by sweet oranges. Then, black cherries, dark chocolate, clove and ginger.
    • Finish
Moderately long, a tad bitter on cocoa and clove. It's accompanied by lush dried fruit, cherry jam and oak.

The latest 25-year-old Strathisla expression from Gordon & MacPhail is
bottled at 43% rather than the previous 40% common to the whisky across various
ranges. The Keith distillery is owned by Chivas Brothers and lays claim to being
the oldest in the Highlands, with an establishment date of 1786. Elgin?s Gordon
& MacPhail company has a very long association with Strathisla, and for many
years bottled the whisky using the official distillery label. The new
25-year-old bottling offers a soft, fragrant, buttery nose, with delicate Cognac
and herbal notes, plus a whiff of warm leather. Full bodied in the mouth, with
Sherry, malt, plums and oak, plus some gentle background smoke. The finish is
long and elegant, with gingery oak which dries considerably with exposure to
air, as one would expect from a whisky of this vintage. Good value for money,
and a lovely aged example of an all too elusive Speyside classic.

  10. Malt Hans scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

Fruity and spicy aroma, prunes, red apples,
lime, nutmeg, ginger and vanilla. Vanilla sweet taste, liqourice,
pepper, ripe orange, milk chocolate and malt. Medium long, fruity and
    spicy end.

  11. MaltMartin scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

A well balanced Strathisla. The nose in particular is very good. Cross comparison with the G&M Strathisla 40y.
    • Nose
Dusty, old furniture and leather. Beeswax and dried fruits as well. Coffee beans and nutiness.
    • Taste
Rich and juicy oak. Some dark fruit. Pepper and nutmeg.
    • Finish
Medium long. Quite bitter. Slightly tanninic.

  12. Sonett scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

Very drinkable but does not really have a character of its own. It is more the barrel that gives the taste than the distillery.
    • Nose
Rasins, figs and plums. A little vanilla toffee and oak in the background
    • Taste
A lot of sherry with its typical dark fruits. Then slowly increasing rather mild spices
    • Finish
A very long mild spicy finish that slowly turns into a slightly dry woody taste at the very end

  13. cherokee0815 scored this whisky 86 points Connoisseur

    nice daily dram
    • Nose
      sweet vanilla, caramel
    • Taste
softly sweet sherry, little bit caramel and a bit chilieat the tounge
    • Finish
      middle long,
