    Tomatin 1965 ‘Oat Mint’
    (47,1%, Daily Dram 2009, 210 btl.)

Nose: wonderfully creamy and fruity. It reminds me of a baby fruit puree (banana, apple, orange and a “Vitabis” grain cookie – delicious). Honey. Some frangipane and vanilla. Fresh flowers. Mango. Waxy notes and quite some mint as well. Great how the anagram really works here. Excellent complexity. Mouth: less fruity, much more spices. Nutmeg, mint again, vanilla, pepper, cinnamon. Still some banana, peach and strawberry candy. Oaky, but in a really mellow way. Finish: again some oak and spices (cinnamon and cloves). Hints of bergamot. Long, warm aftertaste.

Very punchy for its age. Great stuff.

    Score: 90/100

The nose is really very pleasant but as often on old whiskys the mouth is below. Not that it sins for lack of power but the barrel is a little too dominant, breaking the balance of the nose. Pity.
    • Nose
The nose is very pleasant with aromas well melted between them, but still discernible. The fragrant wood (cedar, cedar root) and vanilla are very present. For these 43 years, this dram also has a nice freshness mint and light notes of fresh apple.
    • Taste
More powerful than suggested by the nose, it is expressed first on the wood (cedar) that crushes a little other flavors. Nevertheless, we find some of the aromas found on the nose, but it lacks some of the vanilla roundness that I liked so much. A little water reinforces the bitterness of the oak as well as the fragrant aspect of the wood. Spices.
    • Finish
Quite weak in intensity but relatively long, it finally allows fruity (apple) to express itself over the wood.

Must have been a very good cask. The nose is better than the taste and finish. Nevertheless an excellent and highly recommendable whisky.
    • Nose
Warming, very fruity and aromatic. Fresh apples and mint. Toffifee, beeswax and apple pie. A perfect and complex nosing whisky.
    • Taste
Balanced and fresh but not as fruity as the nose suggests. Sandalwood, white pepper and mangos.
    • Finish
Long, quite dry, oaky and slightly bitter. Cold white coffee and orange peels.
