  3. CrilleVBG scored this whisky 87 points Expert Senior

Without water, this whisky is smooth, and it's 57,5%. If you put water in it, it becomes completely different, and I like it!!
    • Nose
Neat: Surprisingly smooth and so little peaty notes, weird for a Laphroaig. Water: With water it feels diluted...
    • Taste
Neat: It's a nice peaty attack, lots of coal and bonfire.Water: Not as strong anymore, but the sweetness is coming on strong.
    • Finish
Neat: The finish is so long and wonderful. Water: With water it just taste diluted.

  4. Scotscloggie did not rate this whisky Member Junior

Even by Laphroag's standards, this Philo Raga is very peaty and smoky. Yet more complex than the quarter cask or the ob 10.
    • Nose
Powerfull. Very strong tarry and peat and coal smoke on the nose
    • Taste
Peat smoke in extreme. Marine flavours, nutty pepper. Lemon, ash and very phenolic.
    • Finish
Cocoa, sweet fudge, then later turning into ash. Barbecue?

  5. Bachess scored this whisky 88 points Super Administrator

    Don't put water in it.
    • Nose
A lot of vanilla like first fill bourbon. Some mint and butter. With water the nose is much less then without.
    • Taste
Great! Its a bit extreme on the peat. Less round then the nose. Also less vanilla then expected.
With water its unusual, looks like the peat is gone and the lemon takes over.
    • Finish
Rather long with the lemon still in it. Good finish!

  6. magic_slim scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

Good and typical Laphroaig but nothing spectacular.
    • Nose
Powerful, peaty (medicinal, ash) and lemony.
    • Taste
Bold, peaty and warming. Medicinal and lots of ash. Nicely lemoned and peppery. Very pleasant and satisfying for peat freaks like me.
    • Finish
Long peaty (tar) and slightly drying.
