The nose first suggested a relatively unspectacular whisky. Everything was very nice and also quite complex, but the expectations of a 20-year-old set the bar pretty high. In the mouth he goes but then! Fat and oily, he sets and then you realize the age. A very nice whisky, which was able to inspire me completely in the taste completely. Thanks to Whic for the provided samples!

    • Nose
Immediately strong oak, then juicy fruits like pear, plum, applesauce, and I also have salt and spicy heather and buttery shortbread. The alcohol is nicely integrated into the overall mix. With very little water there is also a nice hint of vanilla - not very strong, but there.
    • Taste
In the mouth it comes really fat, a great oily-spicy start with lots of wood, a grandiose caramel sweetness and a beautiful fruit potpourri. The alcohol comes peppery but not sprittig, but pushes the flavors all right in the foreground. The whole mouth is required, the saliva flows and the aromas are getting finer and more complex, the longer it lingers in the mouth - a challenge in the strength ...
    • Finish
In the really long finish I have in the first place a nice warmth, then again tart but still very aromatic oak notes, fruit and a krautige sweetness.

  3. Whisky-Connaisseur did not rate this whisky Expert Senior

A rich, deep and full-bodied whisky. Beautifully poised and balanced.
A pleasant example of a good bourbon cask maturation. Enticing,
elegant; a good companion for a cheesecake. Develops over time in the
glass. This Tobermory works pretty well for me - but, no water please!

I thank Arne Wesche from Whic.de for the sample!

    • Nose
Pleasant and slightly discreet flavours of yellow fruit on the nose with
apricots, melons, pears and yellow apples. Hints of vanilla emerge with
lingering butter toffee and a whiff of marzipan, nicely mixed with a
waxy touch of spiced oak in the back. The fruitiness becomes more
      prominent with time.
    • Taste
Rich and very aromatic! Inebriant fruitiness of peaches, apricots, ripe
pears and yellow apples on the palate. Thick and creamy with subtle
honey and vanilla. A slightly warming spiciness of oak, marzipan and
subtle cinnamon arrives, lingering with white pepper, subtle pink
grapefruit and green walnuts towards the finish. Lovely mouth coating!
    • Finish
The finish is long, sweet and creamy. Becomes significantly dry on the
tail with oaky tannins, and subtle notes of nutmeg and gingerbread.

WITH WATER: There's more citric fruit coming through on the nose with a
splash of water, supported by vanilla and marzipan notes. Water tames a
bit of the fruitiness and sweetness turning the whisky into a very dry
one with reduced spicy flavours. The finish is medium long and dry with
lots of oak, nutmeg and pepper.

    Tobermory 1995-2015, 20 years, 54.8% alc. whic.de Tobermory 1995-2015, 20 years, 54.8% alc.
    Bottler: whic.de
    Expansion: Hogshead
    Region: Isle of Mull, Scotland

Nose: Wonderful aromas of cider, caramel and ripe pears, with light earthy and grassy aromas, forest soil, moist soil and chestnuts. Behind it come sandalwood and oak.

Palate: Strong and strong at first impression, spreads quickly throughout the mouth, tingles something on the tongue. A heavy load of oak, currants and some soy sauce is spreading.

Finish: Very long, dry and bitter. The oak dominates here clearly.

Conclusion: really good price, rustic oak for lovers.

A Tobermory, distilled in 1995, matured in a bourbon barrel for 20 years and afterwards bottled at cask strength.
