Whisky Reviews for Nikka Super Revival
6 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 83.19 points
- Lemon and wood, with some depth, slightly astringing, acid, blood orange, gooseberry, a fairly strong finish and that leaves a good impression, with red fruits.
Dried herbs, exotic spices, roasted almonds
Thick and full, with notes of sweet honey, lemongrass and a hint of tarragon in new oak
Long, crisp, with baking spices
- Decomposed Wood
While it is offered in the same shaped bottle than the Super Rare Old, this Revival is quite different. This limited edition from 2015 was created to honor Masetaka Taketsuru’s wife – Rita Cowan – who passed away in January 1961. This one contains the original profile of the Super that appeared for the first time in 1962, making it somewhat heavier with a hint of peat as opposed to today’s interpretation.
While the nose of this Super is just as sweet, it does have more depth. Next to caramel and vanilla, this one also sports a heavy herbal note and smells somewhat old school. There is a hint of coconut, but also of decomposed wood, with a sweet and sour note underneath that I cannot quite put my finger on.
The body is just a tad too light, actually. On the palate I get more coconut and vanilla, but also green garden herbs. There is a lovely development of smoke. This is not just woodsmoke, it is clearly peat. Not much, but unmistakable. That makes me like this Super a lot better than the regular version.
The finish is not really short, but rather medium long and surprisingly spicy.
You can still find this bottle if you look for it. Around 45 EUR and well worth seeking out. This is an interesting Nikka with a good dose of Yoichi.
- Not bad - but not super either.
- Not certain I would call it super - I prefer their other blends more.
Very gentle on the nose.
Quite hard to describe what notes come through - nothing dominates on the palate.
A warmth lingers for quite a while - a smooth whisky.
- A nikka from the diluted barrel, which really looks like grain.
the sherry is not very marked. Good product overall
Very sweet, coconut, vanilla, wood. Very sweet
A kind of diluted nikka from the barrel, with notes
vanilla and coconut, and a little vegetal
More marked by wood and vanilla. Way
