This is what the 12 should be like.
    • Nose
Soft nose on lots of malt, marzipan, green apples. No big suprises here. Very typical and well balanced Speyside character. Slightly spirity and that's pretty much it.
    • Taste
Very much the same as the nose, only with more honey and a bit of cinnamon. No obvious flaws and no exciment either. The epitome of a daily dram. Very soft but you can taste the over dillution.
    • Finish
Short, much on liquorice and a hint of oak.

    `Glenfiddich 18/40%`
The aroma of a basket of ripe fruit, sweet apple, juicy honey pear, a little cocoa and sherry, chocolate chips. Taste reveals sweet apples, caramel, honey and candied dried fruit. In the aftertaste of salted caramel, chocolate and notes of prunes and dried apricots.

I don’t even know, something needs to be said, but there’s nothing to say. Everything seems to be fine, but he is so very well-adjusted in a bad way, and you don’t want to say about him “balanced”, rather boring. From releases with an exposure, I probably would have picked up the eighth most willingly, since 12 and 15 are very weak, and 21 are too expensive and not worth it. You can drink, but whether you need - the question.

This malt should be tested together with the standard 18er. In direct comparison, it shows its mass compatibility. Others would say that is too boring. I would say that's the bottle that should not be missing in any household.
An absolute all-rounder without corners and edges. Very independent with distillery character. I think he succeeded well.

A beguiling nose. Like at the Christmas market.
Apple Helene with bright fruits, hazelnuts and a little coffee. There is some oak, but the nose stays sweet. No bitterness. Burnt almonds get through and still no stinging alcohol. Wow, good barrel choice.

Surely nothing is to be expected with this drinking strength. But he does it all right with apple helene and spicy nuts without being bitter. Even bright fruits come through.
Again, everything was done right. Respect Glenfiddich.

Medium to long with malty note. With light pepper on caramel, he says goodbye silently and quietly but with a clear message, ... pour again please :-)

    Color: bronze-gold.
    ABV: 40%.

Nose: Assorted fruits. Here, and a fragrant grapefruit, and red sweet apples, pear and caramel carrot flavor with chocolate. [n22]

Taste: Fruit candy, apricot, sweet juicy pear, vanilla. [t21]

Finish: long, hot. Salted caramel and pear. [f20]

Balance: A very tasty drink, I immediately want to write about it. When pouring it into the sniffer, there was a feeling that you poured a slightly thick oil, but definitely not a "watery" drink. First tens of seconds in the aroma there is spiritness, which very quickly goes away. To the nose immediately rushes a whole fruit bouquet, led by apples and grapefruit. In taste, I would say the prevalent distinct pear, which is either replaced by apricots and candies. The aftertaste is bright, rich and bold. Caramel merges with the pear, a little salt is manifested. The price tag for the whole bottle is quite democratic. Here it is, my second bottle, which I add to my "must buy" list, after Old Ballantruan Peated Malt. Excellent. [b23]

Flat at nose, quite dusty at mouth.

Several points below the older version bottled a decade before

A very pleasing malt. The nose smells of apples, marzipan and the typical Gelnfiddich Berennereicharakter. The mouthfeel adds a fine pinch of pepper, which flies away very quickly and "volatilises" as a result of the low alcohol content. What's that called again? Oh, a soft and harmonious. I call it rather thin and disappointing compared to what was spiked in the nose. The finish is also relatively short to very short, with the barrels on the palate with light spices (cinnamon?) And some dark chocolate noticeable. Resumé: A malts that beguiles in the nose and arouses much expectation, but turns out then rather as a soft flatterer. No doubt, solid craft and certainly interesting for someone who wants to work his way into the field of older Malts, but still has respect for the oak. Packaging kept noble and succeeded.
