    This is an excellent bottling, which the distillery has put together here. Everything is right here. It is to be hoped that this can be reproduced in the future.
    • Nose
      Dense, sweet sherry tones, highlighted with sweat right at the beginning. It develops bright fruits (apples), many candied fruits and a salty Kuhstallnote that reminds something of Springbank. With marzipan and malt. A touch of sulfur resonates. The whole thing warms up, caramel comes to the fore, but the nose stays a bit dirty.
    • Taste
      Also in the mouth clear sulfur and a good portion of salt. Dominant are sweet honey and sherry fruits, and the oak tree beats hard at the back. The mouthfeel is pleasantly oily, lots of power, but the alcohol is well integrated.
    • Finish
      The finish is on the pleasantly harsh side, after the sweetness stands for a while as an antipole. Overall, the finish is quite long and sounds nutty in the end.

      slightly alcoholic, then much sweeter than the nose would suggest, mint, increasing oak spiciness, vanilla sauce, tingling dynamically on the tongue - fresh acidity, light match notes

    Balanced and versatile as a really good whisky should be. A masterpiece in every way. And a real bargain when viewed from the PLV! House whisky.

      He starts dark and heavy. Gone are the days of grassy lightness. He asks for water and then he becomes free. With a dark, fruity sweetness and a fine matchstick scent that transitions directly to cigar leaves, it won't let go of your nose. Sorry, ... but really cool! Yeah
    • Taste
      Now things really get going. Wow. The spice immediately dances pleasantly on the tongue and the mouth becomes even sweeter than the nose. Everything comes through like dark chocolate, orange peel, toffee and nutmeg. It comes salty, sweet and sour at the same time and demands a second dram :-) A dream.
    • Finish
      Medium to long, it stays cheekily spicy with oily sherry notes. Rather nutty, peppery and warm, it moves there and can be celebrated. Very good bottle!

    The first contact in the nose is already violent. This is true, if you have taken the first sip, but that is already scratching my hard on a false note. If you like this note of sulfur, you will certainly not be unhappy with the whisky, although in addition to the sulfur it could have been a little more exciting. If you are averse to sulfur, you will not want to make friends with the Deanston 20.
    • Nose
      Uh, a sturdy note of sulfur, as I have seldom experienced so far. Sherrynotes try to get past the sulfur; it does not succeed, it stays putrid. A mushroom-covered, rotting tree. Moldy and drafty cellar. Dead mouse. Moldy fruit in open jar. That costs already overcoming, to take the first sip.
    • Taste
      Not so bad as feared, more monotonous than expected. It starts to tickle vigorously on the tongue, there is a small alcoholic touch noticeable. Woody and dry right at the beginning, dried fruit such as figs, dates, plums, apricots, of course sulfurized, with the sulfur on the tongue is not as intense as in the nose. Sweet honey, pine needles. Heavily flavored pipe tobacco.
    • Finish
      Medium-long and dry, coffee beans, spices such as nutmeg and oregano (which is a mixture), pepper and tart herbs.

    Nose: wonderful nose with my beloved sulfur. In addition a lot of fruit (dates and raisins), capers and old wood. Not extraordinary complex but damn delicious! The alcohol is present but never disturbing. If you give it some time it opens up and the heavy notes make room for other fruits (vineyard peach) and a touch of marzipan.
    Taste: intense and full, the nose continues seamlessly with sulfurized raisins, back plumps, tobacco, chocolate cream and spicy oak. The finish is medium long with beautiful sherry sweetness, cappuccino and peppery oak. But here I would have liked something more endurance.
    Great malt that meets exactly my taste profile. But understand that he is not the darling of them all. The initial price of just under 100 EUR was also fully okay for this quality.

    The days are over, that this bottle is "medicore" for me.
    Nearly 2 years ago it was good, but not overwhelmingly good.
    Today, IT IS.
    Old Style oloroso, high abv... And that slight tainted taste ("Schwefel", the Devils Piss)
    Gonna grab every bottle I can find for a reasonable price for my collection to be able to enjoy this for years to come. In my top 10 of all time (somewhere between place 8 and 10)

    EDIT: 2020. Every time I come back to this malt, it becomes somewhat better. I don't know if everything else in comparism became worse... but this Deanston is something really wonderfull. Nearly every whisky I used to love, got framed by other spirits in some way, that those are "good" but not "wohooo" good for me any more. Not this Deanston. It gets better with every year of whisky tasting I got in my taste buds. It's a DAMN shame this stuff will not be remade (the new 23 lacks something)

    Who likes sulfur, will like this one, has very beautiful varied notes, not at all the 100% "übersherryte" berry compote of otherwise, very much!
    • Nose
      Intense burned match, this particular, still interesting kind of sulfur (no rotten eggs), burnt leaves, a certain sherry sweet in between but without fruit rather, mushrooms, compote with some figs in all, very concentrated and half-closed, hothouse hay, after eternal time a little honey and red apple with peel far behind
    • Taste
      First, the cooled matches, beautiful roasted aromas of chestnuts and hazelnuts together with the woody sulfur, vegetable garden, mushrooms, then the massive, very own sherry, orange peel, grapefruit, sweet malt, honey with thyme and rosemary in it, sour apple peel to the rear, something Plum and date in between

    Blind tasting "Blind Guardian" of Holzwurm
    A great drop - that much is certain for me - with a range of flavors that is rather untypical for a Scots or Irish. So my guess is a Japanese (Yamazaki?) Or a Kavalan in drinking strength and
    forgive - tadaaaa - 92/100 points.
    • Nose
      In the nose he "attacks" me unprepared with a full fruit roar. This is less sherrytpic, more like from a wine barrel storage. At the beginning I make orange and mango and a very light essential freshness. After a while it disappears
      this freshness in favor of the fruitiness. The whisky becomes more and more liqueur-like ... very nice!
    • Taste
      So, now try who ma!
      Holla! The drop comes with an almost unbearable sweetness ... in the best sense! In this potpourri of fruit notes I can again make out mango and orange, but I also have memories of multivitamin juice with honey and fruit compote made from exotic fruits. A feeling spreads in the mouth as if the tongue wanted to stick to the roof of the mouth ... crass! So far I only know of a similar aroma picture from Kavalan and Yamazaki.
    • Finish
      In the long aftertaste, this malt inspires (I would like to commit myself to that point) with its warming character and a nice dryness that perfectly balances the sweetness in the mouth.

      not complex but intense

      In the beginning again very light alcohol
      like rum-raisin chocolate
      On the palate, age and cask come into their own and mix with the sulfur
      I like this
      but it's a bit too much to be really good
      also here as in the nose few intense strong aromas
      quite delicious
    • Finish
      weak, slightly alcoholic the whisky just sounds without bringing something new or more
