So far, my favorite bowmore. Meets my idea of a harmonious well matured sherry smoker perfect.
    • Nose
Really heavy and fat, raisins, nuts and milk chocolate, the nose is charged with aromas, a great spice, slightly iodine, with old leather, behind it is a fresh hint of mint, over all lies a light smoke, like a coniferous wood fire , while slightly salty, wonderfully complex and fine
    • Taste
creamy, oily, directly sherry, pleasant sulfur, nice sweet, while the dry camp fire smoke, espresso, chocolate, or cocoa, but then also drier notes from the oak, a real taste explosion
    • Finish
becomes very nutty in the aftermath, over there are the sweet dark fruits, in the back of the mouth holds the cool smoke, pleasantly expiring, and very briefly you can taste the Bowmore violet

Wow! What a Bowmore. The color, the wonderful sniffing nose and the extreme sherrylastige wood are a dream. The bowmoretypical salt and sea is unmistakable despite the extreme influence of sherry. A great barrel and a whisky for special days! A dream, I like it very much.
    • Nose
Deep dark copper, almost like furniture polish, so the Bowmore shimmers in the glass. Slowly and clumsily, the drops slowly run back into the glass.
Slowly, powerful sherry rises from the glass. Dark fruits with a slight hint of smoke rise into my nose. Orange aromas mingle with the dark fruit.
Now a salty pinch of sea scent is noticeable. The finely incorporated alcohol is now also noticeable. The drops are still sticking to the glass wall. The fruity nose becomes slightly sprittig and a scent of furniture polish arises. Do I now smell liquorice and peaches? I'm not sure, but the nose is wonderful!
    • Taste
The first sip: Wow! Sweet oranges for a brief moment, then the mighty sherry beats! Dark fruits with an extreme oak note and a touch of furniture polish dominate the first seconds. Now a full load of salt is released, followed by a pleasant sharpness. After adding a few drops of water, fruity sherry dominates, then the charge of salt explodes. Despite water addition, it is in contrast to previously much more extreme and violent. The spicy oak comes back with light furniture polish.
    • Finish
The finish only begins with spicy oak. The salty pungency of the taste now dominates the finish. Exuberantly warm, it exudes its spicy and fruity oak for a very long time. Again and again this salty but pleasant sharpness. The finish of the finish creates a fine, bitter, woody aroma that is slightly nutty.

A very mild and harmonious filling with a strong character. Maritime notes, dark sherry flavors and dark smoky wooden elements give this malt a special character. The sherry barrel has done a great job and complements the smoky and maritime malt well. A really successful bottling, I like it very much!

    • Nose
Deep dark copper, almost like furniture polish, is how the malt shimmers in the glass, on the glass wall of my Premium Snifter, cumbersome and oily drops slowly run back into the glass. A mighty sherry scent rises majestically from the glass, dark berries rise with a slight smoke note in the nose. Orange flavors mix with red dried grapes, slowly a salty pinch of sea scent is noticeable. Raisins and dates mix with a few drops of creamy chocolate, sweet caramel appears. The finely integrated alcohol tickles the nose slightly, the syrupy "legs" still stick to the glass wall. The fruity nose becomes slightly sprittig and there is a smell of furniture polish. Subtly salty liquorice and velvety vineyard peaches rise, mineral peat and wet wooden planks are minimal. My saliva flow has been stimulated massively for a few minutes, after this wonderful nose I'm looking forward to the first sip ...
    • Taste
The first sip flows velvety and creamy over the tongue. Sour berries and sweet oranges flash, then the mighty sherry strikes! Pleasant sharpness tickles the tongue, dark fruits with an extreme oak note and a hint of furniture polish dominate in the aftertaste. Now a concentrated load of salt is discharged, the pleasant sharpness is still on the tongue and on the palate. A fine herbal note appears, liquorice and slightly rotten wood tones emerge. Hints of exuberant bacon and smoked meat dissolve from the dark sherry flavors, the mouthfeel is incredibly mild and yet multilayered.
    • Finish
Sharpness sticks to the tongue, slightly salty warmth floods the mouth. The finish begins with spicy oak and salty spiciness. The aftertaste exudes warm and cozy, its spicy oak, espresso and a hint of dark chocolate cling to the palate with a pleasantly salty sharpness. Slightly smoky and greasy elements appear gradually, burnt wood tones and licorice appear minimally. The voluminous aftertaste gradually fades away salty and sweet, leaving a slightly salty film on the tongue.

Great cinema - complex and balanced
    • Nose
heavy sherry, smokehouse, hangs in the ham, furniture polish, spicy herbs (Maggi?)
    • Taste
sweet sherry, smoke, raisins, dried plums, dark chocolate, spicy oak, very meaty, oily and phenolic
    • Finish

  6. Dottore scored this whisky 95 points Expert Senior

As befits the end and Christmas Eve, a fat sherry boom in a glass. fantastic dark color
N: in the nose furniture polish, wet wood, light smoke paired with a floral note. Here I immediately think of a Bowmore. Nice orange note, some liquorice and vanilla. Complex and multi-layered, yet very clear notes, no superimposed sherry barrel. it really fits together perfectly. heavenly
M: Strong start, peppery, then dry sherry comes through, dried fruit, plum, the smoke harmonizes well, again liquorice, salted caramel, rose water
A long smoky, warming in the right place for me between bitter and sweet.
Conclusion clearly bowmore. 90s sherry barrel. Approx. 23 years. 93+

Thank you for this worthy conclusion

    • Nose
Heavy. Old dried up raisins, dark chocolate, rotten wood. Moist earth and some moss. Orange peel, grapefruit. Black peppercorns.
    • Taste
Oily, spicy. Dark chocolate, pepper, some shoe polish. Then sweeter with dried fruit and fir honey. Removes ashes, violets and lavender.

This one reminds me of another Bowmore 1995 from Malts of Scotland bottled in 2012 (cask 12018).
Fantastic nose, complex and evolving. For a while you think the sherry will overpower the distillate but they finally work in tandem. The palate is more beastly but dangerously drinkable and even more with water.
Great whisky like its younger brother.
    • Nose
      93 93
Heavy and dry. Leather, dried fruits (raisins, prunes), nuts, blackberries. Struggling behind these heavy sherry notes, peat smoke, ashes, coastal notes and tar. With time, the peaty and coastal notes are more lively and joined by resinous and bonfire notes.
    • Taste
      91 91
Thick, almost syrupy. Heavy sherry notes again with dark chocolate, coffee, leather, prunes, a few berries and spices from the oak. Hints of balsamic vinegar and a pinch of salt. Smoke. With water, the nose and palate are less beastly. The former is more coastal, the latter more fruity and sweet.
    • Finish
      91 91
      Long, smoky, spicy and fruity.

Very good whisky but I can't find any Bowmore caracteristics in here beside that little pinch of salt perhaps.
    • Nose
Dark and rich but also fine and delicate the same time. Light smoke and nuts. Sweet sherry and custard. Very aromatic nose. After a few minutes the smoke and sherry are more prominent and there are still fat tears coming down in the glass. Interesting, complex and inviting nose. Looking forward to taste it.
    • Taste
Sweet sherry and a good handful of spices. A very rich and velvet full body. A mix of oranges and oak in a light malt with a pinch of salt. The second sip arrived with a nice honey touch in the front building up nicely with the spiciness in the middle to end with the alcohol in the back. Little oily but in good balance as all the rest. Very nice dram I can keep drinking it.
    • Finish
Half long finish, sweet, oak, light smoke and jolly good.
