A wonderful and rather reserved sherry filling which is characterized by wood elements in terms of taste and aftertaste. However, the nose is wonderfully sweet and fruity, in the taste and aftertaste dominate the aforementioned dark and tart wood tones with a fine walnut aroma. I like it and I like it ...

    23/23/22/22 (90P)
    • Nose
Light caramel shines amber in the Premium Snifter, thick and oily "legs" are released from the streaks adhering to the glass wall. Oranges combine with a dash of cinnamon and a hint of creamy milk chocolate, hints of dried berries and grapes flash briefly followed by sweet apricots and velvety vineyard peach. Apples and tropical fruits exude their beguiling scent, sugar and sweet vanilla play with each other. The alcohol is wonderfully integrated, the nose extremely fruity with floral notes. Slowly my salivation is stimulated ...
    • Taste
The first sip flows thinly, with slightly bitter roasted aromas, over the tongue. Subtle sharpness tingles slightly on the tongue, tart apricot and peach come into their own. Pleasant wood tones support the floral and fruity aroma, the subtle sharpness flares up again and warms the palate. Little by little, the influences of wood become more dominant, a fresh mint note lies discreetly in the background, raisins mix with walnuts and a hint of eucalyptus.
    • Finish
Pleasantly warm wood tones rest on the palate, the dark walnuts are clearly noticeable in the aftertaste. The wood tones become drier and darker, wet leaves with dark walnuts are remembered for a long time.

Nose, taste and finish are perfectly matched to each other and give this blindsample a harmonious overall impression. An extremely tasty and delicious malt! Only the "thin" at first sip is a small point of criticism ...
    • Nose
Blind tasting: Dark orange slices and creamy roasted aromas dominate the first impression. Vineyard peaches suddenly powerfully unfold their sweet aroma, apricots and plums are added. A hint of pineapple and tropical fruits emerge and mingle with the dominant peach. Fine sweetness, a hint of vanilla and grassy apple complete the extremely fruity and fragrant nose. The nose captivates now with its beguiling fruity note, I just want to try the first sip!
    • Taste
Sweet and relatively clear or "thin", the first sip flows down the throat creamy through the mouth, peach and apricots are remembered. The second sip is again dominated by these fruity sweet aromas, but this time dark and strong fruit flavors unfold on the tongue. Spicy wood is added and gives the mighty fruit a certain tart note which harmonizes perfectly with the sweet fruit. The hints of dried fruit and walnuts follow, the harsh reverberation of the second sip suddenly gives off a slightly bitter aroma of licorice. Slowly a fresh minty note dissolves from the spicy wood and cools the palate.
    • Finish
With tart wood tones and a dark fruity note, the taste slowly fades into the aftertaste. The palate fills up gradually with plump warmth, the minty freshness becomes more powerful and intense. Tart wood tones play with dark walnuts and some dried leaves. Creamy and slightly tart, the tasty and complex aromas sound and leave a very pleasant mouthfeel.

Guess: An ex-bourbon Speysider, older than 24 and bottled at 46%
    • Nose
      88 88
Mineral and barley-centric, with grist, porridge, oatmeal, naturally cloudy apple juice, pear skins, straw, dusty oak.
    • Taste
      89 89
Creamy and mild attack, gets then dusty-spicy (but not hot) on the mid-palate and goes out with orchard fruit and a good sense of its advanced age.
    • Finish
      87 87
I’m guessing this is diluted, which makes for a soft finale. Simultaneously dusty and creamy, with mild fruity acidity and an elegantly tart aspect.

Nice old whisky. And again a rather atypical Glenfarclas, actually, I think. I also don't taste any sherry casks out of there and that could really pass as pure bourbon maturation. Exciting thing.
    • Nose
Honey, grass and a flower meadow in full bloom. Light, round, flowery, intense and in the background beautiful, subtle oak notes. The whisky smells "old", very soft and round.
    • Taste
Surprisingly, there is really steam coming in here, a lot of pepper, spicy oak - much more than at the Glenfarclas before - there is a lot of flavor. It's not particularly tender in the mouth, unlike the nose.
    • Finish
warm, lots of wood, tart notes, but also really sweet, sticky honey notes, still something flowery and the aftertaste really sticks to the palate., also a little calvados aftertaste, apples. Very exciting.

Certainly there were three or four filled barrels, because this Farclas was not drowned in sherry!
Nevertheless, it shows - complex aromas and a "noble maturity" at a great price (> 100.00 €).
    [Color] = amber!

N: pretty closed nose, very malt and grain heavy. Rye bread. Nut screws. A little alcohol prick. Some dates and dark fruit
M: Approach is a bit spicy, then woody and quickly drying out. The bitterness can already be felt. Pepper and vanilla. And a lot of wood, a lot of wood. Some walnut, cocoa.
A: the taste continues in the finish. A lot of wood, pronounced but not unpleasant bitterness, which increasingly gives way to a soapy herbiness, reminds of coriander. Yes, the finish is really excellent.
Conclusion: beautiful finish, the mouth and nose are too one-dimensional for me. But the finish, wow! 89 points

Round. Yellow apples, bright raisins. Laundry room, loamy soil. Some biscuit dough and lemon rubbed off.
    • Taste
Apple, red pear, some honey. A touch of wax and white pepper. Milk chocolate. Raw carrots.

Beautiful, not drowned in sherry piglets. A great Christmas paint in the old age. The oak wort knows how to please. Fine! 90 points
    • Nose
surprisingly few Sherrynoten in the first moment. At the beginning, spicy wood notes are the main features. Almond, maybe marzipan notes. In the process, the fruits come through, especially cherries, raisins and plums.
    • Taste
Very beautiful oak, slightly dry but nice saliva stimulating. Slightly herbaceous. Cherry associations again.
    • Finish
Tobacco, leather, spicy dryness. Light sweetness

  10. Goethe scored this whisky 85 points Expert Senior

This Glenfarclas ist quite a mix of the 21y old and the 25y old bottling. It's not so much into the sherry direction.Concerning price/performance ratio: 7/10
    • Nose
Red fruits, plums, nuts, nutmeg, oranges, sherry, honey, sweet wine berries, wax.
    • Taste
Red fruits, spicy oak, sherry, marmalade, oak, sourness.
    • Finish
Long. Red fruits, dark chocolate, coffee, fruity oak.
