Immediately after opening, I was already disappointed. It needs a lot of air and benefits from the oxidation over months in the bottle.
I like it pretty much now. Not my favorite tobermory, but he does taste it.
    • Nose
Caramelized oatmeal. Grassy notes. Fresh hay. Maybe a little reminder of lavender. Immature kiwi. Cooling aromas. Some anise. Then citrus fruits. Lemon and grapefruit. Tree sap. Again and again mineral notes.
    • Taste
In the mouth already different. Sweetie first. Sugar beets. Forest honey. Then many mineral and earthy notes. Pebble beach by the sea. Wet humus. Kefir. Aromatic oak reminiscent of smoke. It is getting drier.
    • Finish
      Grapefruit. Tonic Water. Jasmintee. Lehmboden.

    Nose:

citruses, some maritime notes, a pinch of sea salt, very light and fresh, floral, mineral, ripe sweet apples

    Taste:

oily, very different in relation to what we could feel in the aroma, at the beginning spicy, even aggressive, salty, fruit, earthy, cookies, malty, in the background a very delicate breeze of smoke / ash, bananas

    Finish:

    not very long, maritime, salty,

    Score: 88/100

    Tobermory 20 y.o. maltmountains 1995 – 2015, hogshead, 48,4%
    Comment:
The nose reminds me of a breakfast near cow stables – hints of muesli,
green tea, nutella, wholegrain bread, fennel, cumin, cinnamon, canned
apricots and pears, ginger and ginger bread, and also a whiff of, well,
manure pile (in a good way) … Serge calls this ‘farmyardy’ – same idea.
As Bavarian boys this makes us feel at home
The palate is way different, which I always like: very round,
coastal, briny, discrete peat and earth a la Garioch (no smoke though),
and so quaffable, darn good. A long finish leaves you wanting another
shot. Still available for 125.- Euro.
    Score: 89

    Nose:
Salty, fresh, maritime. A delicate floral tone. Behind it - quite discreet - the typical slightly dirty harbor notes of Tobermory. Ash, spices, pickaxe, pear and ripe apples.
With water: clearly purer, finer, smoother. The dirty note disappears, spices and maritime notes become stronger. Wax, almonds, seaweed.

    Mouth:
Sweet, charming and light-fruited in the neck. Then fine smoke and some ashes. Full and intense. The smoke becomes more intense, beautiful spicy. Subtle notes of dirty harbor mole with lubricating oil. Ginger, pear, peach, malty.
Water makes it sweeter, smoky, ripe apples, very balanced. The dirty notes and the ashes step back.

    finish:
Warming, intense, full and harmonious with fine sweetness. A tiny touch of gum and tar. And again smoky-ashen, with malty and salty. Medium-long.
With water: purer. Additionally apples, bisquit, peach.

    Conclusion:
I like it very much. A pretty typical, really good Tobermory. Definitely needs time, occupation and air. A few drops of water open it nicely.

I love Ledaigs from Tobermory, the Tobermory spirit is usually a bit too weak for my taste. Let's see, the 90s were generally not the best time that this destillery had.
This is actually a pretty nice malt, a pleasant spirit with some delicate and softly fruity notes- Well selected! (thanks for the sample, Oli!)
