- Fantastic nose composed of smoke, peat and ash vs. pear, mango and papaya. The rest gets a little behind but overall I really liked it. Full review (in german): https://keinehalbendrinks.de/2019/07/23/zwei-unabhaengige-bowmore-zum-wegriechen/
- Cadenhead's tasting notes:
The nose starts off with a sweet vanilla note, some fruits in syrup like pears. Then in comes the coastal notes with the addition of oak smoked fish methanol and eucalyptus. (Yes very Islay)
Smoke and fruits mingle together, more smoke than peat notes and again very rich and sweet fruits, burnt embers arrive to be counter balanced by melted marshmallows.
The finish arrives with some dry smokiness then cedar wood and a final flourish of fruitiness with pineapple syrup
- A real treat. It is beautifully integrated and mature, I particularly like the fruit notes in their various facets from fully ripe to crisp green. Peat and smoke blend gently into the overall picture, are always present without ever becoming overpowering. That suits my current taste preferences very much.
Herbal peat. Clean, here aromatically well integrated ash. Some shoe polish. Full-bodied barley malt with notes of vanilla wholemeal biscuits. KiBa. And many fully ripe fruits: especially mandarins and mango. Peppermint fondant. A fantastically round, deep, fragile aroma with a beautiful interplay, in which a different note sets the tone from nose to nose, but always remains embedded in the overall ensemble.
Strong start, but one that suits him well. Herbal peat paired with green, crunchy fruits. Fine oak melt, very vanilla and malty sugar. I also find maritime, mineral notes.
Milk chocolate and aromatic, light fruits. Peppermint fondant. Slightly nutty oak spice and aromatic ashy smoke. Finally, an interplay of white pepper, sea breeze and malty-creamy sweetness.
