Whisky Reviews for Clynelish 1995 CA

A dream of Clynelish, probably. not much of the distillery left, but you never know how the finish would have tasted at the same conditions with another malt. I could drink one like that every day and it would not get boring.
    • Nose
Very own nose, mixture of matches burnt, apricot jelly and walnuts and roasted chestnuts take the first seconds on one, something follows something like roasted banana, nut chocolate, fresh bread crust, a hint of Clynelish and the wax and linen bags is still buried somewhere the rest of the notes, a bit of moss too, later he reminds of a raspy toast with raspberry jam
    • Taste
Fruit tea, here you suddenly notice the strong sherry, which almost reminds more of red wine, really fresh red berries, raspberry jam, strawberry jam, thyme, lavender, rosemary, some frankincense and wild garlic, some tea, the roasted is almost gone, expresses vllt , In a touch of chestnut still, to fine, young leather, honey, cinnamon, some mango even and red apple, cherries, some salt and bitter almonds
    • Finish
The main part of the taste remains, the fruit tea, lavender, now a little dry oak and dark malt, but mainly the fruit with red apple, red berries, a touch of sweet tobacco, long

A "dirty" but delicious sherry clynelish, which needs some water to remove the sulfuric notes and highlight the fruity aspects, rather atypical Clynelish - something for lovers
    • Nose
Cooled ash, sulfur, sherry, cranberries, cranberry compote, thickened plum, strong woody notes, raisins, dark chocolate, black currants - dirty and nasty
    • Taste
Amarena cherries, marzipan, rose liqueur, oak, full-bodied and full-bodied sherry, blackcurrant juice, black elderberry
    • Finish
      Sherry, salty, long and dry

Certainly not for sulfur haters! Behind it, however, there are also chocolate and dark fruits. Little Clynelish typicality remains.

Violent sulfur attack, behind it many herbs, leather and dried oranges.
With a little water it becomes more accessible. In the mouth, however, a taste attack of a special kind: mushrooms.
But then it is wonderfully fruity-sweet with tart spiciness, sour gummy bears and full-bodied, waxy finish.
An exciting malt that challenges you but rewards you with many unfamiliar moments.

    Clynelish 19 1995 CA Wood Range - Sherry Cask 54.6% WID: 74664
Nose: sulfur, spices, lots of cocoa. With a little water: dried apricots. Hazelnut. Chocolate. Less sulfur. Later slightly smoky herbs.
Taste: First sweet, cherries, sulfur, lots of chocolate, bitter almond, salt, a little prickling, but not spicy
Finish: wood, sulfur, corks, spices, Black Forest cherries
Conclusion: Nice chocolaty and nutty in the nose. In the taste then beautiful cherries and a lot of sulfur. But I like that, so 89 points.

Really good whisky. What a nice cask and definitely one for the chocoholics.
    • Nose
Chocolate cake soaked in Amoretto. Chocolate custard and cream. Tinned tangerines and malt extract. Wonderful.
    • Taste
Intensely chocolatey. Milk chocolate coated in cocoa powder. There's an underlying maltiness, but every other aspect of the flavor is chocolate coated. Very nice.
    • Finish
The chocolate melts on your palate until cinnamon and warm spices come through. The heat rises at the end but it's not unpleasant.

  8. Bishlouk scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

A whisky Sherry cask rather greedy, and very spicy at times. Perfect in Christmas time. Alcohol is not balanced enough for my taste, a drop of water is generally the greatest good and softens both the nose and mouth.
    • Nose
Very focused on dried fruits, especially black grapes and apricots. Alcohol quite present, let rest the dram makes him feel good. Light dry wood smoke, and quite a lot of Christmas spices. After a short aeration, dry skin of lemon appears, bringing a tangy note.
    • Taste
Sweet, caramelized entry on the palate. Raisin is always present. A very slight waxy smoke, and a lot of spicy spices. Alcohol a little too present.
    • Finish
Long. The caramelized dry white grapes endure long minutes in the mouth. The tart and spicy apple shows the tip of his nose behind all that.

    Tasting note from Cadenhead:

    Nose
This is a rather rich nose with Battenberg cake. Meaty
full bodied with sherrywood influence of raisins and coco powder. It
seems to grow richer by the second.
    Palate
Not a typical Clynelish as we get lots of fresh marzipan
as the cask is really dominant with figs and black cherries coating the
whole palate with a rich oily meatiness coming from the fruits.
    Finish
The palate has a rather seasonal finish with lots of
winter fruit cake (Christmas cake if you like) some autumnal earth notes
give this dram a rather enjoyable complexity.
