    - a whisky to fall in love with
    - a very intense, aromatic spring bench
    • Nose
      intense brachial massive sherry note, typical strong springbank sherry, very promising and complex, raisins, ripe peach, intense fruity sweetness
    • Taste
      oW: very strong, voluminous, fruity appearance, extremely intense character, more fruit than oak, but also needs water;

      mW: the sweet peach flavors come out even better, super tasty and intense, alongside coffee, plum and dark chocolate
    • Finish
      long dry warm finish;
      long warm aftertaste

    [March, 2018]  Ooh, I love to taste such private bottlings that cannot be bought anywhere but sometimes are truly great.  And Springbank really made a stunning recovery after the whisky crisis of the eighties.  So I am very curious about this one...

    The colour is deep copper and the texture shows sticky tears at the top of the glass with very late and slow legs.  The nose is a little punchy first but then offers a modern sherry profile with interesting leathery, toffee, bitter almonds and summer floral aromas and a hint of sulphur, too.  Bold but not overly complex.  The dram arrives coating in the mouth with the typical scurfy sulphury feeling, unfortunately.  The sulphur is much more present in the taste than it was in the nose - but luckily it is still bearable and does not dominate all of the other flavours.  The sherry-induced aromas (like raisins, plums, chocolate) still can be found without a hide-and-seek play.  The finish is of medium length and again a little less attractive due to the sulphury mouthfeel.  Forget water as it turns the dram bitter, unfortunately.

    A borderline sulphurous dram that keeps its head upright due to the high quality of the Springbank spirit.  Anyone with less sensitivity to sulphur will (most probably) enjoy it, for sure...
