A promising debut, the fruity component predominates both in the nose and on the palate. He also brings a certain spiciness and is a bit edgy. Nevertheless, anything but a boring 3-year-old á la Whobstler. A distilling character with high potential - 13.05.2017
    • Nose
Fresh, fruity, citrus fruits, star fruit, snack cucumber, apricot, Galiamelone, floral, some vanilla, surprisingly little trace of sweetness, the fruity component is superficial
    • Taste
Bitter aromas, followed by cereals and malt, fruity, floral, apricot, peach, slight ginger sharpness on the tip of the tongue, little sweetness, bitter hazelnut skin, even light roasted flavors come to the end

    PUNI Alba 3 yo

(43%, OB 2015, Batch 02/2015)Nose: sweet and sour onset, with plums, baked apple, the moving
towards red grapes and lemon. Touches of agave. Peppery touches and a
light smokiness – or rather more earthiness – in the background. Also
clear malty notes with traces of hops (the Stella Artois factory on a
summer morning). Mouth: malty, with slightly strange mineral notes and
then growing spices (clove, pepper). Some charred notes and creosote, as
well as caramel and traces of forest fruits. Dusty hay. Quite some
winey notes again. Finish: not too long, but smooth, with the same
traces of smoke, black pepper, a fig sweetness and lots of malty notes.
Of course for such a young distillery it’s difficult to come up with
different profiles if you’re only producing one type of whisky – wild
finishes are a risk you’ll need to take. I don’t think this is a keeper
for a future core range, but it’s an original variation on sherry casks
and interesting to get the smoky touch. Around € 80.

Oh yes, this is Bella Italia! Already nicely complex for a 3 years
old with a delicate balance of fresh fruit, warm spice and sweet notes
of vanilla and honey. This is a very good example to demonstrate the
enormous potential of PUNI distillery. I am quite curious how this malt
will taste in a few more years.

I thank Caminneci - Wine & Spirit Partner for the sample!

    • Nose
Very fresh and clean on the nose with intense citric notes and a
delicate touch of grapefruit. Fruity aroma of unripe pears, green
apples, banana and tender floral notes arrive. Vanilla and gentle toffee
are coming through as well mixed with nutty flavours and subtle spiced
oak, ginger, fine cinnamon and nutmeg. Clear and very appealing!
    • Taste
Delicate flavours of lemon and vanilla complemented by a mix of warming
spices - oak, cinnamon, caramelised ginger and white pepper. Still very
fresh and clean with eau-de-vie derived fruity flavours, banana and
yellow plums. Lingering dark honey with slightly dry oak towards the

The finish shows a short to medium length with vanilla, toffee and
lingering honey. Fruity and spicy with delicate cinnamon, ginger and

WITH WATER: There's a bit more lemon coming through with a
slightly spirituous touch. Still fruity, clean and very fresh. Very

Vanilla, toffee, and pleasant flavours of dark honey. The finish is

One thing is clear: Puni has great potential. Already after three years, this young whisky knows how to please with many positive facets and shows: The distillery works with expertise and good barrels. I am looking forward to experiencing the aging of this malth.
    • Nose
Fresh and sweet with soaked grain, fresh wood and great fruitiness. You will find green apples, peaches and unripe plums. At times, the malt is reminiscent of a fruit brandy, a well-defined maltiness, vanilla and incipient spiciness of cinnamon and oak balance this quite well. The alcohol is quite well integrated for the youthful age, but can not hide completely.
    • Taste
Very pleasing, light, sweet and fruity on the tongue. The initially malty sweetness turns into creamy caramel sweets. Here too, bright citrus fruits dominate. Peach, pickled apricot and white grapes. The abrasion of a lemon peel brings slightly bitter notes, which initiate the finish towards the end with the very late noticeable influence of alcohol.
    • Finish
Vanilla, caramel, honey and subtle warmth - on the finish, the Puni is consistently easy and accessible. Towards the end of the somewhat short finish comes again beautiful spice of ginger, oak and cinnamon. At the same time he does not give himself the nakedness of a false mark.

    White wine.

A fresh, clean, woody and simple whisky with aromas of cedar wood, beechwood, wood sap, malt, cereals, acacia honey, grape skins, grape seeds, hint of vanilla, green apple, floral tones, sawdust, hay, banana peal, earthy tones, hint of solvents, hint of spices (cinnamon and nutmeg) and macadamia nuts.

A dry, wood centered and clean whisky with aroma’s of cedar wood, oak sap, beechwood, honey, macarons, lemon zest, earthy tones (musty cellar), grape seeds, slightly bitter tannins, barley sugar, cereals, hint of clove, grapes, hint of cinnamon, pepper, vanilla and fresh oak.

a medium short and slightly drying finish with aromas of oak, wood sap, soft honey, vanilla, white wine, hint of star anise, pepper and slightly bitter tannins.

Yes it’s young and a bit one dimensional, but it’s got potential. Already it’s quite round and soft-spoken. It needs some more time in the barrel thats for sure (the fresh wood flavours are a but overpowering). I would love to taste this again as a 12 or 18 year old expression.
