    Nice balance and good depth
    • Nose
Slightly sweet (honey) and fruity. The rumethers come through softly and that gives the fruity one boost but also lets floral notes come through.
    • Taste
He has a slightly greasy mouthfeel (best comparable to syrup) and in sweet and slightly spicy (aniseed? Licorice?) After some extra air, the floral notes also come through well.
    • Finish
He has a medium dry, warm and woody aftertaste.

A well balanced dram with depth and texture. The rum cask intensifies
the typical Balvenie notes of sweet fruit and lingering honey and
introduces rich and intense spices and gentle chocolate notes. A
beautiful composition of delicious flavours give this one a perfect
dessert whisky. Warming, exotic and very enjoyable.

I thank Joe Seidel from Joe's Malt Shop for the sample!

    • Nose
The nose starts off with delicate vanilla and orange blossom honey,
complemented by pleasant rum notes. Fruity aromas arrive with orange,
gooseberry and grape scents. Hints of cinnamon and a whiff of spicy oak
      in the back. Very accessible.
    • Taste
Very sweet start on the palate with custard, orange blossom honey and
gentle apricot jam. This is complemented by spicy oak, white pepper and
lingering cinnamon. Very warm and complex. Slices of baked apples arrive
with subtle raisins and a whiff of sweet rum towards the finish.
    • Finish
The finish shows good length with a delicate creamy sweetness of yellow
fruits and honey. Warm and slightly dry with pleasant and prickling oak
      on the tail. Very satisfying.

WITH WATER: On the nose, water brings
even more creamy vanilla and apples to the fore with a delicate citrus
note and lots of orange blossom honey. A dash of water reduces the
sweetness slightly, reveals an attractive spiciness in the mouth and
introduces a subtle chocolate note towards the finish. The finish is
medium long, sweet with a whiff of citrus and prickling oak and
      cinnamon.

Notes from 9/1/2015. Previous notes: Color: gold. Nose: sweet, sharp when you inhale more deeply. Light wood scent. Smells pleasant, spicy. Taste: balanced, sweet, honey; in a gentle way strong. Tingling in palate. Finish: in the back of the throat.
    • Nose
Sweet, vanilla, wood in the background.
    • Taste
Full sweet taste, but not too much. Stimulates the side of the tongue. Spicy, sweet vanilla, almond, nutmeg.
    • Finish
      Short to medium warm finish.

I stay with the Cuban. 2
    • Nose
Not as cute as the Cuban, a bit fuller and spicier. Here are more sweet fruits instead of unbelievable honey, like the Cuban.
    • Taste
Somewhat stronger than the Cuban and the rum is better. But he is not so persistent for that. Also in the mouth more spice.
    • Finish
Medium long with a little sweet and more seasoning and vanilla.

  12. Volanne scored this whisky 79 points Expert Senior

The nose was pleasant, if not really special. The mouth is quite boring. Not the right choice if you're expecting a smooth rumy taste.
    • Nose
      Kind
and pleasant. Flowery and honeyed. Acacia flowers. Softness of an
"industrial" apple (Golden ? ;-) ). A hint of tinned pineapple.
Usual spices from the cask: some vanilla, and little cinnamon and nutmeg.
    • Taste
Quite smooth and mouthcoating, but lacks of aromas, if you ask me. Quite disappointing compared to the nose.
    • Finish
      An unexpected dryness.

  13. KayMeertens scored this whisky 86 points Connoisseur

Blind tasting of a sample. Didn't recognise the rum finish.
    • Nose
Red apple, peach, vanilla, toffee, chocolate, raspberry, honey and nutmeg.
    • Taste
Vanilla, peach, caramel, pepper, honey, chocolate, apple, raisin and wood.
    • Finish
Caramel, cocoa, vanilla, honey, red apple, pepper, wood and smoke.

  14. mister glenfarclas scored this whisky 84 points Connoisseur

Very nice, not too complex and demanding whisky.
    • Nose
Pungent nose, quite alcoholic. Expressive rum flavors. Light vanilla and fresh fruits. Some cooling menthol. Typical Balvenie honey.
    • Taste
Mild and smooth start with light caramel and sweet honey. Vanilla still present. Then some quite powerful alcohol kicking in. Great mixture of both sour and sweet exotic fruits. Nice influence by the rum casks.
    • Finish
Pretty long finish, becoming quite dry. A touch of bitterness, but sweet till the end.

    • Nose
In the nose, the very first impression is a very delicate red wine note, which then gives way immediately to syrupy / vanilla sounds, which go in the direction of wood and candied nuts.
If you know, then the association rum is really close.
With a bit of air, the whole thing is a bit too bread.
    • Taste
On the palate, then clearly fruity, delicate citrus notes, beautiful oak wood teas, at the end of the syrupy-sueße comes through more and rounds the overall picture. But on the palate there is not much left of the candied nuts
    • Finish
The finish is then rather the dry wood notes of oak barrels sp

Nice and smooth, with a sweet finish. A good `everyday` whisky, although I found the 17yo rum finish to be consistently better across the board.

An interesting expression. I like this better than the Cuban Selection I must say, this seems more complete. Warming and sweet, very enjoyable.
    • Nose
Sweetness of clear Rum, chocolate. A bit sharp on the nose, some spices here as well. A bit of leather maybe, caramel, perhaps even coffee. Malty, vanilla and some dries or sugared fruit.
    • Taste
Sweet and some exotic spice. Brown sugar, malt, definite vanilla and a hint of wood. Tingly at first, softer after that. Chocolate again, some sweetened fruit and quite creamy/buttery.
    • Finish
Shorter than I hoped for, quite smooth at the end. Initially again that nice sweet/spicy mix. Mouth watering at first, a bit more dry after. At the end vanilla and malt remains as the spice dies out, but the creaminess is nice.

  25. The Macallan scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

Pure is fine, but still anaesthetic to the nose and palate. Water, water and again water is what this wonderful dram needs. Don't be shy with it and dare to go back to say 25% abv and see for your self what it has to offer. But this is a wonderful nice exotic/tropical drink. My olympian gold for 2012
    • Nose
Alcohol/spirity like - rum, cocolate rum-beans with vanilla, malty and estery with nice sweetness (reduced: much more friendly, aldehydes/floral, sweet vanilla, cocolate, rum barrels, orangy, meer fruity notes, light exotic, vanilla/rumm/malaga puding-icecream and sweet fruit/flowery notes)
    • Taste
Sweet, creamy, pungy/anaesthetic, woodspices like cloves (reduced: sweet, juicy, creamy, spicy, the chocolate & oranges with rum are still dominating with a light peaty note in the back)
    • Finish
Firm, spicy and warming (reduced: much smoother, tasty with some cloves, sweeter, exoctic and still warming)

  26. Erik Elixir scored this whisky 83 points Connoisseur

N: sourish and sweet candy, fruity, malty, creamy chipolata pudding and chocolate
T: orange, chocolate and malty - typical Balvenie barley
F: spices, coffee and white chocolate
get's better after the fist zip

  27. markjedi1 scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

This is candy whisky. Seems perfect with dessert or a big cigar. For the sweet teeth among us. I am one of them.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
    • Nose
The rum shows itself early on the nose. Light brown sugar, banana, dried fruits, cinnamon and a whole bunch of nuts. On top of that, the typical Balvenie sweetness of oranges and vanilla is added. Taking a profound whiff rewards you with a wonderful hint of peat and pipe tobacco. Very complex.
    • Taste
It has a good body and great mouthfeel. Creamy, almost buttery. Immediately honeysweet, followed by the spices from the nose. Slightly peated, or so it seems. A perfect continuation of the nose. Midpalate, I make associations in my mind of sugared orange peel.
    • Finish
The finish is not overly long, but very sweet and warming.

Good custardy nose with a spicy hit too. Can get the golden rum influence throughout.

This whisky doesn't need further announcement.
    • Nose
Malt, vanilla and honey. Floral and very fresh. A hint of rum
    • Taste
Oily, very sweet. Honey and marshmellows, white chocolate, christmas wreath. Very complex !
    • Finish
Very pleasant bitterness. After that always sweeter. Fruit candies. Longlasting.

This is a nice 14 yr because it is very drinkable all the time. Unlike some go to whisky that you save for special occasions or that you always share with friends. This is the type you just go to anytime. Its sweet, balanced, and the girls like it!

  32. nijholtm scored this whisky 90 points Expert Senior

I tasted this whisky at Glasgow airport. The price was 41 English Pounds. It is an amazing sweet, honey and vanilla whisky. But also really fresh, fruity and soft. The whisky also has an scence of water in it. A mineral-like flavour.
