    • Nose
Melon, kiwi. Honey, geranium. More and more citrus. Anise. Hay. 1min later, light prunes. Still a light nosing, no peat. People probably mistreat hay as peat. Lemon after a sip. Overall medium to light strength.
    • Taste
Pretty rich to start. Yellow fruits + citrus sourness and kiwi. Sweetness dropped after 5s with more peel and tea taste. The whisky tasted a bit thin, and not much change on the palate.
    • Finish
Some pear with peel sweetness, longan, then honey + green tea bitter, finally vanilla sweetness and cinnamon

Smell: apple cider with sourness of fruits, light delivered smell of strong sour apple aromatherapy, I get feel of lemongrass and slight feel of wood charcoal. 86
    • Taste
      87 87
Taste: Slight apple Woody honey sweet then strong sourness of fresh fruits, overall smooth taste, then it progresses to some signified spices, balanced 87
    • Finish
      88 88
Finish: Mint refreshing after spices, I can feel little. Bitterness but definitely a lot wood tannin there. 88

Nose:- Candy sweet, refine mild smokiness, pine. Dash of water will enhance the chocolate aroma. Palate:- Crisp and fresh, light-medium body. Sweet pastries. Mellow but
a dose too much of charms (sweet), lack the boldness of being the
    great.

Finish:- A good one. Warm you up slowly. Eucalyptus and
minty, cooling on the palate. Take a good gulp and enjoy the wonderful
    finishing.

Hakushu, pronounced "Hakshu" 18yr. - for me - sorry - inedible. Mix some grass from the lawn mower mixed with alcohol from the pharmacy, mix well and store for 18 years. It does not get better that way either. I gave away the last opened bottle after 2 fingers - from above in the bottle. The only Hakushu I ever tasted was the 25th. But I do not have any of that anymore. Honestly admitted, I do not really know many Hakushu, but the desire to try even more has passed to me. The 12er is even less. On Neudeutsch: If you drink these, go abotkeke and buy alokol and neme gras from rasemeher. Cook and shake. Then smack blatantly still the same. You certainly come to terms with that. Is wi polish vodka with russian grass, schmekke burned like cigarette light.

Unfortunately I don't like the grassy notes very much - thus to be honest it is a bit disappointing for me
    • Nose
Honey, green bananas, green apples, grassy hints, little bit of wood and things
    • Taste
Again some grassy notes, woody, pretty fresh and intensive, oily and liquorice, old books
    • Finish
      Long and burning, zesty, grapefruits

Intriguing nose that leads to different upcoming aromas when tasting. Bit of lemon and fruits on the side with a good smokey body. A must try if you have the chance. ..

Very enjoyable dram for cold winters or rainy, wet autumn.

I had imagined it smoother, but the rather soft smoke is an experience in itself. Very beautiful flowery, fruity notes paired with this hint of smoke make it a very round experience of a special kind. Very nice.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Very thick with notes of cut grass, orange blossom, manuka honey, apple peel, calves leather and almond.
Palate: Oaky with notes of custard, syrup, stem ginger, bramble leaves, watermelon, hints of cut hay and pine resin.
Finish: Good length with notes of sour lemon sweets, dry oak and caramel.

    A good "old" Japanese.
    • Nose
The first impression: a fruity French white wine. Then, however, comes quickly a malty note, which mixes with the spring flowers and wild herbs. Milk chocolate, maybe a little crème brulée. Overall, quite mild and restrained.
    • Taste
The taste of sweet ripe apples and pears. A caramel malt sweet. Very creamy. The fruity notes remain for a long time and slip over time into the taste of milk chocolate with mild spices. At the back you might think you notice a slightly bitter, metallic aftertaste. But rather it is in the direction of not yet quite ripe green apple.
    • Finish
      Medium length and balanced.

    Silky with floral notes.

    Color: deep gold

Nose: ripe pear, dried mint, oregano, hint of smoke

    Palate: jasmine, mango, quince, menthol

Finish: long, pleasantly smoked, hint of bitternessTasting Notes by Hakushu (Suntory)

    interesting typicity.
    • Nose
Fine, floral, vegetal (mint, chlorophyll), very slightly peaty and a little mineral
    • Taste
      sweet and mineral
    • Finish

from a sample from a friend
    • Nose
Crystallized sugar sweet malt and rich soft, yellow fruit. Lemon,
peaches, and glazed apricots. Orange zest and fruit-wax. Sweet young
calvados/green apple. With time, the apples become far more prominent
and dominant. Eventually, a faint smoke and verdant trees in a damp
      forest emerge.
    • Taste
Pleasant and easy enough. Maybe even too easy. Rather silky and on heavy
cream. No real oomph. Honey, apple slices, vanilla, lemon, waxy sweet
lemons. Soft and sweet ginger, a little salt. Fairly simple and linear.
This strikes me more as a dessert malt or calming digestif.
    • Finish
Clear and precise. Smattering of yellow citric tropical fruit, not
always distinct, malt, zest, and even more residual cream film. Very
enjoyable and clearly very well made, if only wanting for just a bit
      more 'there' there really.

Compared to other 18y he disappoints something, but lets himself drink well
    • Nose
Despite the 43%, as the first alcohol in the nose Cherry blossoms, oranges, red apple, barrel oak over all
    • Taste
Sweetness, caramel, orange, slight pungency from alcohol and oak
    • Finish
Bitterness from the wood that passes quickly. The sweetness comes back to the foreground, slight sharpness remains long on the tip of the tongue

Expressive, stewed fruit, light peat, mouth on bitter orange liqueur and a subtle peat. Long and chocolatey finish.

Color : bright and slightly reddish
Aroma : somewhat peaty, lots of fruit - maybe pineapple?
Taste : full, fruits, a hint of honey and chocolate. Smoke floats above everything.
Finish : very short - does not even leave a memory of the great taste.
Conclusion : the Hakushu is great to drink - but an intense enjoyment is certainly not his cup of tea. The taste can only be deciphered.

  22. getz scored this whisky 84 points Expert Junior

A massive step up in quality from the standard Hakushu 12 yrs, this 18yo is amazingly well-defined (as we`ve come to expect from Japanese whisky) with deliciously rounded fruit and cereal flavours, at times surprisingly reminiscent of the finest Irish potstill whisky (eg Redbreast 15yo).

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Orange, pear and a dry smokiness. Fruit salad.Palate: Patisserie sweet, baked goods and baked goodness!Finish: Long and fruity with Manuka honey with subtle smokiness.Overall: A fantastic Japanese whisky that hits all the right notes.

Not close to the Yamazaki 18. Re. price/value, better go for the Hakushu 12yo
    • Nose
first all on rich Japanese oak, then floral and fragrant. Sweet and round nose.
    • Taste
Sweet start, soon getting drier with malty and floral notes. Mildly spiced.
    • Finish
Medium to short; some sweetness remains and a little bitterness comes up

  25. nijholtm scored this whisky 76 points Expert Senior

    Not as good as expected...
    • Nose
      fresh apples and vinegar.
    • Taste
tender peat smoke with green and citrus fruits.
    • Finish
gentle oak with again citrus fruits.

  26. markjedi1 scored this whisky 82 points Connoisseur

The nose was worth the effort, but it did not really deliver on the palate. The finish was the best part, but coughing up about 60 EUR seems a bit much.
    • Nose
The nose plays in a different league than the 10 Year Old. More expressive on vanilla, fresh wood shavings. No. Make that the still warm edge of a fresly sawn plank. Quite nice, even if it doen not reveal a lot of fruit, besides some apples. Flowers as well. Despite all that, this nose is just as light.
    • Taste
It has a little more body than the younger version, but is still not completely mouthcoating. Fairly spicy with some apples and cinnamon, but it lacks a bit of punch. Hardly any peat to speak of (not that I was looking for it). Okay, but not grand.
    • Finish
The finish is the highlight of this Japanese whisky: long and slightly drying because of the Mizunara.

Great whisky. I like this one. The nose is really good, the taste is fruity and the finish is malty and fruity at the same time.
    • Nose
      Smooth sherry, great.
    • Taste
Smooth taste. Fruits, pears and apples. Wet cardboard, of course in a good way.
    • Finish
Medium long finish, malty and fruity.
