Legendary whisky. This version of Talisker is apotheosis of massmarket whisky. Elegant mandarins in eternal union with tar and salt.

Simple and somehow ascetic malt. It's nice and worth a try, but don't expect anything special.

  8. hafssol scored this whisky 90 points Expert Junior

Definitely one of my favourites, bottle after bottle. Can never get tired of its bold, rich taste; in particular I love its marine feeling and the spicy, pepper finish. I hope it won't be discontinued after the introduction of "Skye"; perfectly fits my taste, never disappointing.

For me not a Whisky for beginners as it is a very intense one with character.

No comment on the colour as it's not a natural color. But in all fairness: Talisker only colours to maintain the same colour across the batches and not to mislead the customer.
    • Nose
      88 88
Strong bonfire smoke, not as heavy as in p.e. young Laphroaigs but very present. Maritime, coastal, sweet and toasted clove in the background, black pepper. Some smell green olives and rosemary but I didn't get them.
    • Taste
      89 89
Intense spices, citrus, intense chili catch, some caramel in the background, clove, getting stronger with every sip, salty and maritime.
    • Finish
      86 86
The intense spices stay, chili catch mixed with the maritime and salty character, maybe some dry cinnamon, nutmeg, orange zest. Very powerful and again: might not be the best Whisky for beginners ;)

  14. Max70 scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

Back to this classic after a while, it is always a good, winter, choice. Better appreciable with the addition of a discrete measure of water, not too much, and let it breath a couple of minutes.
    • Nose
      86 86
The sea, idoine and salty, warm smoke and dried fruits. Some apricot
    • Taste
      85 85
Round and well mixed, spiced smoke, cinnamon and somehow balsamic
    • Finish
      85 85
      Persistent, salt and sweet mixed

    one of my alltime favorites.

  16. schengel10 scored this whisky 84 points Connoisseur

This incredibly wild, boisterous and impressive malt (his "Chilli-Catch" is unique) is perhaps the best 10-year standard malt in the world! Top price!
    • Nose
      maritime salty, spiciness, pepper, clearly wood smoke, yellow fruit;
    • Taste
      unique peppery explosive chilli explosion on the palate, spice, some smoke, citrus fruits (peach); Malt, oak;
    • Finish
      powerful, long, spicy peppery finish; Malting sweetness sounds;

Pleasant islander, comes very softly compared to NASs.
    • Nose
Smoky nuances, seaweed, hot spices, fresh sour citruses, salt, fragrant flowers.
    • Taste
Smoke, salted meat, peat, somewhere far away again citrus fruits.
    • Finish
A long, simple but pleasant crust of bread with salt, pepper, smoke.

Wow, what a powerhouse. Remarkable, what are behind the initial enormous sharpness that occupies the whole mouth for aromas and tastes.
I'm excited. It has it all.
    • Nose
      85 85
A sweet note (I still find it difficult to distinguish between heather and malt) is definitely present here. The smoke comes paired with a maritime note.
    • Taste
      86 86
First just incredibly sharp in the mouth. Everything is on fire. Not like booze, more like biting into a chilli. After some time in the mouth (when you get used to the sharpness), a dry fruitiness spreads. Now the smoke is building up too. The mouth becomes drier. With the second sip after a long time in the mouth, a sweet note can now also be recognized (malt?). The sweetness becomes more and more present.
    • Finish
      86 86
Very long and very warm. Smoke remains and the mouth becomes increasingly dry.

  19. Tom na Gruagaich scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

Tasty smoky and somehow to poor port. But I do not know why I did not like it before.

  20. Whiskywobbler scored this whisky 88 points Expert Senior

The first thing that comes to mind is the astounding balance that is accomplished. The fiery smoke and bold spices definitely stay in check and do not overpower. In stead the room these two leave is filled with beautiful aromatic flavours that balance the whole with their freshness. The mix of flavours develop beautifully in the glass and on the tongue, and remain entangled far into the finish. The only slightly negative point for me would be the caramel colouring. The price, however, is a give-away for the quality that is delivered. All in all, a whisky worthy of a place in the collection of any whisky aficionado!
    • Nose
      89 89
Directly, I encounter fresh salt and salty fudge, then freshly sawn pinewood. The peat starts to develop in a clear way but also kinda mellow, as if it is slowly but decisively filling my nose. What follows can best be described as earthy, in fact, the wet earth you smell on an autumn morning with damp rising from the ground. In combination with a fresh-lit wood fire, fresh tobacco and cigars. Before the smoke can overwhelm you, a fresh and sweet fruitiness calmly appears with fresh pears, sweet apples, sugared citrus and grapefruit. Water particularly unlocks the fruitiness. In addition, a slightly acidic backbone is present, think of unripe banana, just opened orange parts, orange jam, ginger jam, and marmalade. In between these smoky and fruity flanks, threads of sweet spice are spun. Spiced honey and spiced fruit, a peculiar black-peppered sweetness, and some salty cashew nuts. Everything appears beautifully orchestrated.
    • Taste
      88 88
The moment the liquid rolls onto your tongue, you become aware of the smoke that gives a prickling and spicy sensation, in particular cracking black pepper and a teaspoon of nutmeg. After the first waves, the smoke is enriched with notes of leather, wax, furnished wood, along with some some medicinal tones. When the smoke recedes, fruity flavours come forward with poached pears, fresh apples, lime skin, sweet citrus, and prickling Fanta. The smoke reappears with additional notes, like fresh earth, champignons, cardboard, and becomes slightly dusty. The full balance is enhanced with notes of honey, toffee and nuts. In the long finish the smokiness goes for a full return, embracing the smooth fruity flavours.

  21. Kantenmechaniker scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

Talisker 10 always works, in every situation. One of the better standards.
    • Nose
      87 87
the smoke is not really intrusive, the first thing I notice is the typical mild pungency and pepperiness that Talisker likes to attribute to it, plus caramel, which is quite creamy, with light sweetness, some salt, sea breeze, sour yellow fruit
    • Taste
      87 87
full-bodied and very sweet, here too the smoke rather reserved, ripe peach, also here the chilli-catch, in the back he becomes stronger, some oak, vanilla, the mouthfeel is totally juicy,
    • Finish
      86 86
a lot of peach, light smoke, now some salt, a slight tingling and pulling on the tongue, warming

Wonderful whisky for its 10 years, with not so much variety of flavors and flavors creates the impression of deep, kaleidoscopic, multifaceted; excellent balance, excellent pitchnost, bright memorable character. (alas, the next version was weaker).
    • Nose
Amazingly refreshing resin, sea, a little smoke and ash, in the background something sour-fruity - everything is mixed like in a kaleidoscope, then one other tone comes to the fore - perfectly.
    • Taste
Explosion of spices, pepper, citrus notes, grapefruit, dried fruits, nuts. Slightly loses flavor.
    • Finish
Warm, peppery against the background of sweet and sour fruit and burnt sugar, long. A worthy continuation of the aroma in strength and balance.

  24. larswehmeier scored this whisky 84 points Connoisseur

    • Nose
Strong start. Pleasant smoke. Sea breeze. Fruity behind the smoke. Strawberries or grapes. But also oak.
    • Taste
Strong, spicy impression. A lot of oak. Slightly sour-vinous grape note. No sweetie.
    • Finish
Long and warm. Smoke rises from the throat over the palate.

Not an overly complex one but very tasty nonetheless. The only Isle of Skye single malt never disappoints.
    • Nose
Heavy and bonfire smoky but also zingy, like lime zest. The proximity to the sea results in a brininess. It's also very woody on the nose and also a black pepper is present. Although the peat is obviously present, I find this one to be rather smoky than peaty.
    • Taste
Very woody to the taste. Black pepper and American oak come to mind. Some sweetness, that was lacking in the nose, peeks through. Fruitiness like from raisins and cranberries. However, still smoky!
    • Finish
A sharp but warm finish for this one. Woody and briny.

  27. SilentBeing scored this whisky 87 points Member Senior

Truly a classic malt. Distinct and recognizable in both nose and taste. Very enjoyable and a perennial favorite.
    • Nose
The prototypical maritime nose. The elements in the nose really do combine to give a distinct sense of a tangy seashore. Moderate peat with a mineral, briny note. Raisins, pineapple, orange zest and lemongrass. A hint of ginger and anise.
    • Taste
Starts off spicy sweet with apple, cucumber and black pepper. Rapidly turns more mineral and gingery with some peat and a hint of pineapple. Towards the finish increasingly spicy with notes of anise and sweet chili.
    • Finish
The peat really manifests itself in the finish, where it is quite distinct. The finish is long, salty and warming, with anise, sea salt, sweet chili and a little pineapple.

    • Nose
Heavy, full of how to describe it ... spiced sharpness combined with fruity, as if sweet tones, rubber plant and rubber synthetics, grinding wheel.
    • Taste
Beautifully intense, oily, full, when in contact with the oral cavity amazing feeling, there is again the industrial plant, citrus, the whole is a little smoky ... this is great whisky!
    • Finish
Very intense and very long; some fragrant wood, leather, sweetness and again spicy (about pepper) sharpness.

    • Taste

In this case the economic value of the distillate is inferior to its quality, so this represents the ecception where it’s right to pay something for a fair cause.

Praise to the Talisker, praise to Skye.
    • Nose
The sensation of an intense sea breeze of tempestuous harbor landscape, with a warm idea of a bonfire, smoke and ash, then vanilla and ginger.
    • Taste
Saltiness, algae and anchovies on a solid marine construction, then ginger and lemon juice as the mouth cleaners.
    • Finish
Short, the pharynx back is under the preassure of the smoke and the saltiness and it rests dry, even thanks to the power of the lemon juice and of the ginger.

Tasted 13/01/2015. Alternative tasting notes: Color: buyer. Nose : salty, vanilla, citrus, slightly nutmeg? Surprisingly fresh. Taste: nice round Talisker; salty (but not as strong as in the smell), tingling on the side of the tongue, nice balance between fruit and smokiness. Light creamy texture. Finish: Reasonably long aftertaste in the back of the palate. (80 points).
    • Nose
Slightly salty, nice combination of vanilla, citrus fruits and raisins. What oily?

I've had several drams out of two different bottlings the last 5 years which both had a very rancid sourness (like sauerkraut from a barrel) in the nose. Not so much present in taste and development but it totally ruins the overall experience for me. I will steer away from this for quite some time.

N: Talisker or Highland Park? Tastes like a combo of bourbon and sherry casks - and super active ones too so probably Talisker has the edge. Lots of sherried fruits, raisin in particular with a mineral, oily, earthiness in the bows that lurks around on the finish.
T: Rich, full, woody arrival. Chocolate and oaky sherry notes provide for a long and fruitful development which grows and grows….
    F: …..chocolate, mineral, cardboard earthiness.
C: Fabulous standard expression, better than the HP12. Always makes me wish Bunnahabhain would follow Talisker’s cask management which provides a consistency in quality time and time again.

    Scores a B

Always interesting, complex and a damn good dram.

    (Rating interval 84-87)
    • Nose
Peat smoke, maritime with sea salt and sea weed, shell fish and wet camp fire, citrus (lemon in particular) and dark bitter chocolate.
    • Taste
It's sweet on the palate with waves of smoky salt and pepper, malt and banana peel. There is some nice pepper mint to initiate the finish...
    • Finish
...which is long and lingering with peat smoke, pepper mint and sea salt. There is a distinct feeling of banana flavored cough drops (bafucin in Swedish).

I bought this talisker 10yo for below 1,000 NTD (about $33 USD), which is a very enjoyable daily dram. In the 2011 chinese new year, I roasted some mullet roes(烏魚子) with this Talisker 10yo, very match, without alcoholic burden. Although I just taste this Ver.3 Talisker 10yo, which is good, I think the past versions would be better.
    • Nose
Smoky, peaty, lemon, sweet malt, grass, earthy, and sea breeze.
    • Taste
Lemon, smoke, peaty, tangerine peel, pepper, and salty.
    • Finish
Medium to Long, lemon, peaty, salty, tangerine peel, and  sweet malt.

A characterful one this - still, despite the fact that the bottle’s been open a while
    • Nose
Brine! Very coastal this. Peat smoke only second, actually quite subtle. Flowering gorse. Some candied peel notes. Pine trees by the beach
    • Taste
Sea-salty, soft smoke, light honey, but with depth of flavour
    • Finish
Rich seville orange marmalade, warming then fading to smoke

If they cut on coloring and chill filtration this would be well above 85. Other than than this is used to be my go to drink. I buy it in supermarkets when they have special offer and you cannot beat this at that price.

    • Nose
Complex: peat, lemon, vanilla, fresh tobacco, wood
    • Taste
harmonious, peat, pepper, spicy, wood, but also round and delicate with some sweetness and some cognac like notes
    • Finish
pepper, spiciness and wood with peat on background

  78. Magnus Hillman scored this whisky 86 points Expert Senior

This is definitely a good product. It might be chill-filtered and colored but Diageo have the knowledge of creating tasty whisky anyway, without doubts.

    (Rating interval 85-87)
    • Nose
Marine, salt peat, white glue, black and white pepper corns, sweet vanilla and more peat.
    • Taste
A nice delivery of sweet peat, sea salt, burnt sugar, honey and slightly grassy. Very spicy with cracked black pepper that back up the overall marine impression. Does not feel as young on the palate as on the nose. It becomes sweeter with water.
    • Finish
The finish is long with peat, salty peat returning to the sides of the tongue with honey flavors without the sweetness. Almost like a cough tablet with honey flavor.

  79. TDMartijn scored this whisky 76 points Expert Senior

Well balanced daily dram. The 45.8% and the light smoke gives it a nice sharp edge that makes this one stands out of the crowd.
    • Nose
Vanilla, dried fruit, light hints of smoke.
    • Taste
Sweet, honey, vanilla, black pepper and more smoke than the nose would suspect, pleasant with a sharp edge.
    • Finish
      Medium long, very nice.

What to say ? For less than 40 euros, a single malt essential and unbeatable that never disappoints! A must have at home! Smoked and iodized profile very interesting, distilled to perfection, with fruity and sweet notes in the background. Without doubt the best "entry level" of the market.
    • Nose
Smoked, iodine notes very present (no kidding?). Excellent! Influence of the barrel, fruity notes in the background, but smoke and iodine dominate.
    • Taste
Powerful attack but not aggressive. Pepper, seaside, seaweed, salt water, pepper, light smoke, fruits, sugar, pepper, quite creamy. The percentage at 45.8% is perfect, neither too powerful nor weak.
    • Finish
Between medium and long. Salty, peppery, powerful, moderately smoky.

    A
true classic. Elemental and classy at the same time. Light to
medium-bodied. Great quality/price ratio in my opinion.
    • Nose

      Clear
peat smoke, vanilla, pronounced American oak (somewhat polished),
heather, liquorice, salty sea, iodine, syrupy malt intermixed with
oak notes, 'fresh' leather, outspoken notes of pepper, citrus - and
toffee after some time in the glass.
    • Taste

      Peat
smoke, salty sea, cream, oak, citrus, some fresh unburnt peat in the
      background, faint vanilla.
    • Finish

      Medium long - Peat
smoke, vanilla, lingering pepper - brine and creamy oak make up the
background together with some unburnt peat.

Excellent value. Must. Below 57 ° North perhaps, more greedy and complex in the mouth. As well as access to drinking water, everyone should have a bottle of Talisker at home (and without a fee).
    • Nose
Talisker 10 years old, the must have of the supermarket (and who kills the grant's regulars).

Finely peated nose, a little lemon confused with sea air and its iodized notes. Even open for a year and a half I think it's still great.
    • Taste
A little sugar, smoke and salt (which remains on the tongue). Pleasantly creamy on the finish.
Not ultra complex, but very well done.
    • Finish
Very long, a little hot. Always smoke, iodine, sugar.

A great cold weather whisky! Always been one of my favorites, a very high quality malt in my book. Excellent stuff.
    • Nose
Smoke and a little sharp. Fresh, wood. Some light fruit but not much, malt and vanilla. A little pepper, some spice, a bit grassy.
    • Taste
Peat and vanilla sweetness at first. Drying on the gums. Quite mild in the beginning. At the swallow it explodes in your face; Pepper, heavy peat, wood, malt, vanilla, spices, fruits, this has everything.
    • Finish
Same as the end of the taste; enormous amounts of flavor, an explosion of aromas. Very warming and a long lingering finish with fantastic sweetness.

    SGP:365
    • Nose
Sweet with whiffs of gentle smoke. Grass - very Zubrovka-like, but not that intensive and pungent.

(water) - subtle sweetness coated with peat. Milk & musli.
    • Taste
Nice peat, very gentle with some woody notes (peppery).

(water) - some caramel sweetness; and zest-ness.
    • Finish
Medium to short - drying. The water introduces some sweetness in the finish, then the dry, woody feel takes over.

I haven't had T10 for a while so it's quite fresh to me. But this is much better than I remember this bottling (Blue box and blue capsule) being. I don't recall such strong tar and lemon previously...
Glad I broke my self-imposed buying ban today due to the offer price
    • Nose
Salt and sherry. Something a little like paint but not actually paint - treated fences I think! [edit: creosote?]
Seaweed on the beach - and is there a trace of honey too?
    • Taste
Mmm, delicate for all the strength of flavour. Peat of course, but there are tarred ropes in here too. Fishing boats maybe.
    • Finish
Long smoked finish with a slight fish taste, and a hint of lemon!

The classic Talisker. Of the standard bottlings certainly the one with the best value for money.
    • Nose
The nose is a bit piercing. Iodine, peaty, smoky, medicated.
    • Taste
The taste is medium. Peppery, sweetish, slightly more smoke, slightly more peat.
    • Finish
The finish is medium. Warm, pleasant, spicy, peaty, smoky.

Maybe I've just become desensitised over the years, but I do think that
they have worked to make Talisker more accessible to a wider audience
over the years. I suppose (grudgingly) that it is a good thing, but I
do miss the mind blowing follow up to the amazing nose. Still its
churlish to complain too much. It's a god amongst whiskies in my
    opinion.
    • Nose
Instantly Talisker with its kippery nose. Underlying notes of citrus,
sugar and malt flutter about but they can't compete with the smoked fish
intensity and the sense of seashells drying on the side of Loch
Harport. Old friend I've missed you.
    • Taste
This is where I think Talisker has changed the most over the years. The
peppery attack is much less than it used to be and is overshadowed by
an initial relatively smooth fruity/malty approach.
    • Finish
Only here does the pepper come back, crashing in with waves of salt.

End and diversifies, less fits in and monolithic than a Caol Ila OB 12.
    • Nose
Comes closer to the Caol Ila 12yo OB but with additional fruity notes. It is peaty, iodine and fresh. At the 2nd dram, I felt in the palm of my hand smells of fire. A little olives too.
    • Taste
Attack powerful and spicy but not offensive. The mouth provides a pleasant feeling of warmth. The beginning of the mouth is very focused on spices, especially pepper and pepper.
    • Finish
Long enough. She is powerful and peppery.

Amazing expression for such short amount of money. The level of peat just makes it an dynamic whisky, theres not to much and neither nothing less.
    • Nose
A coastal, nice harbor town sense on the nose. Some peat, just a little, not an die-hard peaty expression. Warm with some flavors of vinegar & olive oil.
    • Taste
Very lovely sea flavor, but not like salty water. It's sweeter than I'd expected. Also warm but mellow, some fruit on the palate. There is some flavor of oak wood in the back just before the finish kicks in.
    • Finish
A long, lovely thick sweet finish. Just a little peat to finish it of, but not in a over-reactive-way. No, in a way that it should be. It's not putting away the nice coastal sense, it's adding a little vibrance to the whole scene of a lovely day on an isle at the west coast of Scotland. Points; 89.
