Nice sip but maybe too long in the bottle now. Anyway, it still seems like an attempt with something that has been next to sherry.

    [October, 2012]  Together with friends I emptied a bottle that I bought for 50 Euro in October, 2008.In my old rating system (ten scales that translate into WB points: 50 - 66 - 75 - 80 - 82,5 - 85 - 87,5 - 90 - 92,5 - 95) I scored it 82,5.  My notes state an unbalanced and unattractive modern sherry profile.  I did not like it.

Soft finish with a lot of spice

Nose:- Soothing on nose with strong presence. Honey, sweet spices and caramel with touch of chocolate. Generally good quality.

Palate:- Candy and spice sweet, raisin. Rich, creamy and mouth coating. Well rounded.

Finish:- Smooth and long. Spicy, dry and chewy. Tinge of cocoa powder emerge at the end.

    Simple and easy dram.

Influence of very moderate Sherry nose, a bit of sourness, cinnamon, pepper. Soft mouth with a covering texture, a bit of greenness and bitterness. Finale of medium length / less. Alcohol well integrated but lacks breadth and power. Bad.

  31. Magnus Hillman scored this whisky 87 points Expert Senior

Water improves the whisky when it comes to the nose and the flavor but the finish loses its delicate spicy balance and white pepper takes over a bit too much. Nevertheless, a fantastic expression of Glenmorangie.

    (Rating interval 85-89)
    • Nose
Cinnamon, vanilla, strawberries, some anise seed and fennel in the background.
    • Taste
creamy texture, sherry spices, orange, red berries and sweet vanilla again with a hint of leather.
    • Finish
The finish is long and spicy and becomes more peppery after water.

    • Nose
Flash grass, vanilla,  sherry, lemon, grape, toffee, warm cocoa, a little gunpowder.

    • Nose
Powerful far from the glass. Yet light nearby. Too light. Sour. Green pepper.
    • Taste
Rather sweet and bitter. Not sweet. Green wood. A little artificiality.
    • Finish
Short: 5s. Green apple. Clear like spring water.

  35. nhuber scored this whisky 83 points Expert Senior

very nice nose, smells promising, but unfortunately a bit disappointing in the mouth, hmm, if you want sherry go for Glendronach 15, only slightly more expensive but much more rewarding in the mouth. easy choice for me.

  36. Tothemorrow scored this whisky 89 points Member Senior

    One dram note. Medium-bodied
    • Nose
Complex nose where creamy sweetness meet raspberries, vanilla, oak and pine-needles.
    • Taste
Intense sherry sweetness and warm oak. Complex with matching ABV to back it up. Water delivers creamy fudge and malt.
    • Finish
Long soft and sweet finish with notes of sweet liquorice and bread treacle.

  37. icon_of_sin scored this whisky 85 points Member Senior

I like it very much! Nice sherry and a hefty 46%. Plus good PLV!
    • Nose
First the typical Glenmorangie citrus note, followed closely by bath soap and a well-integrated, fruity sherry note. Quite strong and tingling in the nose (probably the 46% owed ...). In addition, malt. In the background I still smell milk chocolate and slightly grassy notes.
    • Taste
Clear sherry! Lots of volume and vigorous mouth kicking (the 46% do it really well ...). Malt and oak in the form of dark chocolate.
    • Finish
Malt and dark fruits. Clear oak. Strong and warm.

    • Taste

    • Finish
Long and pleasant aftertaste of spicy orange and hazelnuts dipped in dark chocolate

Has been aged for 10 years in American white oak which has been

previously bourbon. After this long period the distillate is poured into

Spanish Oloroso sherry casks for a two year finish to get the whole finish.

  41. Ikkakumon scored this whisky 80 points Expert Senior

Not bad but we can find better in "sherry finish" in the same price range.
    • Nose
      Caramel, sherry, spices.
    • Taste
Caramel, vanilla, dried fruit, a little spice
    • Finish
      Medium, wood and drier

  42. drkrylov scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

An Oloroso sherry finished whisky from Glenmorangie, the word `Lasanta` derives from the Gaelic for Warmth and Passion.

  43. D3US scored this whisky 83 points Expert Senior

This is a very affordable whisky and a quality dram, considering that. Still I feel this is not Glenmorangie's finest moment.
    • Nose
Slightly bitter sherry delivery. Drying. Prickly and flowery. Sweet, dark fruits, maybe ripe plums or dates. Chocolate and a little bit of a salty note. Fresh, though.
    • Taste
Fresh again, salty caramel. A hint of minty freshness. Flowery again, citrus fruits and a little dry.
    • Finish
Medium length. The sherry sticks around for a long time and so does the drying prickle. Chocolate sweetness then, with vanilla and malt.

  44. drkrylov scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

Elegant but full bodied this whisky has spent ten years maturing in American white oak ex-bourbon casks before being extra-matured for a further two years in Oloroso Sherry casks from Jerez in Spain.

Smooth, creamy and sweet nose, with the sherry tones nestling in the background (albeit with a touch too much rubber coming through). Adding water didn`t do too much. Things start to become less balanced on the palate, and it falls apart a bit at the finish, which is short with bitter notes. Not as good as the nectar d`or or standard bottling.

One of the "mothers of all finished whiskys", a perfect composition without disturbing the falling drops, as I was allowed to experience it with other finishes. - I could not detect anything of "sulfur" in my batch, but yes - our taste buds react differently and our brain exerts different associations on the stimuli.
    • Nose
At first I am reminded of a hearty bite in a fresh sugarcane in my youth. Then come toffee, chocolate and then only the thoughts of a sherrydurchtraenktes barrel. All together gives a lively harmony.
    • Taste
Dry sherry barrel; powerful, but soft; clear, but not destructive or too intrusive. Chocolate, fruit, spices.
    • Finish
Everything goes over in the warming finish, pleasantly soft. Maybe there are still orange peels?

  47. mmaclean scored this whisky 84 points Connoisseur

"Updated in summer 2010, Glenmorangie Lasanta now boasts an age statement

of 12 years old. Lasanta is a sherry-finished Glenmorangie and is said

    to mean `Warmth & Passion` in Gaelic."

One of the whiskies I certainly will replace when this bottle is emptied
    • Nose
      sherry, malt, honey, very fresh
    • Taste
sherry, honey and a shadow of liquorice
    • Finish
medium, a small bitterness, followed by honey and sherry

  49. markjedi1 scored this whisky 82 points Connoisseur

At 45 EUR for a 1 litre bottle, this is a nice
    price/quality deal.
    • Nose
The nose is very soft and sweet with loads of dark
fruits like plums, raisins and dades. Crème brûlée and honey, but also lighter
fruit like peach on syrup. Somewhat dusty, but nicely creamy too. I must say, I
      like this.
    • Taste
Very creamy on the palate. Feisty on ginger and
cinnamon. Immediately a sweet wave of honey and caramal follows, sugar and
orange zest and hints of berries.
    • Finish
The playful finish on ginger and oranges ends with a
      touch of oak.

Funny thing is that this whisky tastes like Glenmorangie that has had something added to it, rather than a whisky that has been "finished".
    • Nose
Chocolate covered raisins.  Caramel syrup.  Spice cake.  Hints of oak.  Hazelnuts?
    • Taste
Honey and caramel.  Port over vanilla ice cream.  Drying on the tongue.  Shoe polish.
    • Finish
Dry and woody.  Soft sherry tones fades to more honey.

Its not really doing it for me I'm afraid. I know some folks are having
good experiences with this and I've had a couple myself, but this
particular one is a duffer imo.
    • Nose
First impressions were mistaken. The struck match scent has appeared,
although its not too bad. Its settling down now and there's a lovely
orangey tang to the malt, like a rich orange cake dusted with icing
      sugar.
    • Taste
The first taste, brought back the sulphur, but perseverance allows the
malt to come through. The oranges are there, but I'm not really getting
much more than that. I think the sulphur is just killing it. I wonder
if this mini was from the early batch
    • Finish
Long enough, but not very exciting.

The Lasanta 46%: Maturation in sherry casks with an additional 2 years maturation in casks
    • Nose
Nose: Very spicy (too much for me), chocolate powder, a hint of sulfur (which will invade the glass once it is empty, it was thought to put the nose in a powder magazine ) Â €
    • Taste
Palate: Some people have had the unpleasant impression of cap in mouthâ € |
    • Finish
Final: again too "hot", too woody, spicy, sulfur too.

  57. Lafroy scored this whisky 73 points Expert Senior

    • Nose
Definitely hints of sherry, pears, dried
fruits, toffee, spirit, a little bit of honey. Also little fruity with
      chocolate notes.
    • Taste
      Fruits, sweetness, richness, prunes, cherry,
      chocolate and caramel.
    • Finish
Rather short, pretty intensive and sweet.

I LOVE Glenmorangie, so what went wrong, did i get a bad batch?
    • Nose
A strong sulphure presance, every time a took a good sniff it was over powering, made me cough, a nosehair remover.
    • Taste
Put an ice cube in it which calmed it down a bit, still sharp with a touch of liquorice
    • Finish
A bitter dry end. Not a good malt at all
