Whisky Reviews for Macallan 1989 LMDW

Not an usual sherry packed Macallan. Pungent with distant burn tar and
toasted bread's smokes. Earthy with hints of black peppers cling on
character, rich and firm. Toffee and sherry note take centerstage on
palate but can't ignored the echoing and enticing touch of sweet peats.
F- Long and balance, minty.

- A round, elegant and intense dram for the evening by the warm fireplace. Glorious.
Carefully, the tears roll down the glass, pulling even legs and connecting with the oelig-heavy malt at the bottom.
Hmmmmm ... exotic-fruity and heavy-sweetly spicy it in the nose. Flowers? Maybe. But sure: pineapple, mango, orange, over-ripe banana. All surrounded by creamy honey and forest fruit liqueurs.
After a while in the nose, the spices come out of the barrel wall, clear oak, moist wood, pickled cherry, crème brûlée: there it is - the characteristic smell. as I love him so much at Macallan.
At the back, add a good dash of iodine and mineral notes and give the Macallan a nice depth, sea air on the stormy coast .. I also imagined saddle leather and fresh pipe tobacco, wafting a touch of roasted coffee beans through the mixture. A men's salon of the 20's.
The alcohol plays around and cools the nose all the time, but is never disturbing.
With water: The dram fights violently, like natural apple juice. Chocolate and coffee are increasing significantly. Forest fruit and ... actually ... a clear hint of smoke. Honey and exotic fruits take over the helm again.
A spectacle in the nose, so many different impressions.
The empty glass makes the sweet, the exotic and floral dumplings of this otherwise rather spicy malt come to full advantage again. Class!
The first sip is pure on the lips:
Powerful. Spicy. Salty. At the same time fruity and creamy-chocolaty.
The moist wood and the oranges are present, as well as the pickled cherries, followed by apple, pear, pineapple, then and at the same time leather, coffee and almonds.
Dark chocolate and cinnamon.
With water: softer, creamier is the second sip, but at the same time also provided with a gehoerigen chili-catch. He also does not save on spices, salt and minerals. Liquorice and coffee also bring the water. Much wilder now, more tobacco, more leather, more wood. Even a little ginger. The sweet, the chocolaty aromas decrease, linger in the background.
Long and intense with powerful oak, dark chocolate and orange zest. only slowly fading, he leaves floral tones, sweet, lingering.
With water: eternally long, eternally spicy. Licorice, blackberry, leather, dark chocolate. Fine.
- Official Notes:
Tasting note Color: golden yellow supported. Nose: fresh, elegant. The first nose reveals a note of green and spring barley in which entangle exotic fruits (pineapple, banana). Creamy and vanilla, it becomes as medicinal (camphor), saline and spicy (curry, nutmeg). Complex, it evolves on heady flowers (mimosa) and citrus fruits (lemon). The yellow color brightens the aromatic palette. Palate: firm, toned. Its elegant contours reveal a slender architecture and resolutely turned upward. The acidity of the fresh fruits that it liberates liberally (pear, brugnon, pineapple), gives the middle of the mouth a lot of presence and minerality. Bluesy notes of slate enrich the color palette. As and when, it gains in creaminess and greediness (brioche, almond). Final: long, endless. Barley makes a fresh comeback. A thin layer of zan covers the fruits (pineapple), which also come back to the surface of the palate. The retro-olfaction is saffron and chocolatey. The empty glass takes us into a garden scented with the smell of jasmine, daffodils and hyacinths. http://www.whisky.fr/macallan-1990-over-20-years-5th-edition.html
