      Ultra fresh on juicy fruits: apple and pear. The alcohol is not so well integrated, but it does not spoil my pleasure to have the impression to smell a calva.
    • Taste
      Toffee, slightly bitter spices, apple. Delicately sweet.
    • Finish
      Not intense, but long and deep. Sweet spices persistence.

    A good malt, which has been clearly stamped by the Calvados. So strong apple notes are a refreshing change. Compared to other Bruichladdich Crew Valinch bottlings, however, it lacks a high level of complexity and creaminess in the mouth. Compared to the crew Valinch # 11, which was also ripened in the Calvados Cask, the # 16 draws the short straw.
    • Nose
      Immediately intense fruit notes dominate. At the top, how could it be otherwise, strong, fresh apple. The calvados barrel is very present. In addition there are peach rings, pineapple with mild acid, marzipan and gentle spices. As time goes on in the air, the apple notes change primarily and change from the cloudy juice to the must.
    • Taste
      Immediately malty-sweet with marzipan and honey. Also in the mouth are beautiful apple notes. It then becomes spicy on the tongue with pepper and woody notes. The alcohol is well integrated, but it lacks something else for Bruichladdich so typical oily and creamy mouthfeel.
    • Finish
      In the finish, the whisky reveals a whole new facet, which comes here for the first time to light: A distinct, not unpleasant bitterness of walnuts, roasted coffee and bitter almond oil plays around the still clearly present apple and fruit flavors. Again, the marzipan is back. Overall, the finish is medium in length.

    Jonathan Carmichael, head of Harvey Hall, now also has his own Valinch, after Tima Mackinnon, one of his two supervisors, made a name for himself with the great Port Charlotte Crew Valinch 03 very early on. The Valinch himself has strong frame data. 25 years maturing, 22 of them in the Bourbon barrel and the last 3 in a Calvados barrel. After Valinch 11 again Calvados / Bourbon. But there are individual barrels, each barrel has its peculiarities to explore and enjoy. Eye: Nose: Optically quite bright, clear apple juice inevitably comes to my mind. Very nice apple notes. Partly, if he gets some time and air, even baked apple flavors. Rumrosines, vanilla from the bourbon barrel, everything is there. I like it, even though I'm not the biggest Calvados fan under the sun.
