Whisky Reviews for Glenglassaugh 1976 RM

5 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 90.31 points

  1. ctu scored this whisky 90 points Connoisseur

Complex whisky, with a lovely balance I think.
    • Nose
Very elegant. Fruits, vanilla, oak, lavender
    • Taste
Bitter, spicy, fruity, creamy: apple, pear, oak and pepper
    • Finish
      Long, spicy, dry, bitter

The nose is the best part on this, promises a lot but does not quite deliver.

Its ok but the bitterness spoils it from me and stops it getting a good score.
    • Nose
Nice nose, powerful and fruity, mainly white fruits, slight medicinal note, I think this will be a little dry
    • Taste
Bitter , spicy and dry as expected, the fruit that was on the nose is in the background. After a few sips the sweetness does grow on pear and apple and there is is also some dry meat taste
    • Finish
Long, powerful and the bitterness remains

A very nice Glenglassaugh. No off notes.  (Un)fortunatey I (only) have a sample.

Would like to have a whole bottle.

I compared three Glenglassaugh at one evening:

    http://www.whiskybase.com/whisky/1254/glenglassaugh-1984-wm
    and
    http://www.whiskybase.com/whisky/7366/glenglassaugh-1976-rm

    The
Wilson Morgan has a bitterness in the final, so this is why this one
takes the third place. The better sherried whisky in the DR one, really
    nice no off notes, enjoyable.
A bit out the range, because bourbon matured, is the Dorment.
    This
is the one with the most Glenglassaugh character (well it is a bit
obvoius, because there is no sherry which overlays the fine and fruity
    Glenglassaugh style ;-) )

  5. Willie JJ scored this whisky 91 points Expert Senior

Truly wonderful whisky. Great complexity and balance. I should have bought more of this stuff.
    • Nose
Strange faint iodine and lavender note as if there were a drop or two of
Bowmore in the dram. Plenty of vanilla and icing sugar along with
wood, pepper and mixed berries. Brilliant!
    • Taste
Spicy sherbet, pepper and citrus. Dark brown sugar mixed with a pinch of salt. Gentle wood spices.
    • Finish
Spicy and dry. Not terribly long.
