  1. Moses scored this whisky 81 points Connoisseur

Not bad at all for calibration. Little alcohol and colored gives it something completely neutral. Straight out without stopping or turning. A whisky, but that's it.
    • Nose
With your nose on the joint spatula, do you call that sparkling? But then ripe apples with sherry notes in honey. So don't go all the way down. For me, good standard, OK.
    • Taste
Full and sweet, it does what you expect in the mouth. But it lacks the size and the volume. Too lean what's coming. But he does more than his nose promises. Only, there is nothing more to discover. Good colored standard. Totally ok.
    • Finish
Rather short but sweet because of the color, like apple pie with grated nuts. The sherry doesn't disappoint. Everything as expected by the nose and palate. Nothing is coming now. That was it.

The Solera process should ensure consistent quality. This malt confirms this in any case. No off notes, tasty and sufficiently complex. At least 43% alcohol content should be mandatory here, however, so that the intensity of the beautiful aromas comes into play even more.
    • Nose
Chocolate-covered raisins, red ripe apples, aromatic oak note, vanilla, oranges, ripe mango, playful barley, lovely fruity basic orientation, wine gums, cherry blossoms, raspberries rather than strawberries, a little honey, light, dry rolling tobacco
    • Taste
Grape nut milk chocolate, acacia honey, juicy sultanas, baked apple with roasted slivers of nuts, spiced orange, sweet sticky mango, clean juicy barley, butterscotch, smooth malt, cantucci with almonds, cocoa
    • Finish
Medium length, warming oak, the malt makes steam, butterscotch, cinnamon, milk coffee, dark milk chocolate, barley, almonds, marzipan, vanilla settles down

I enjoyd this on a good bit. Very nice nose, fruity and full bodied, with honey and vanilla notes, dried fruits like pears and apricots. The taste is also amazing for the cheap price, intensive sherry and oak flavors with fruits, cinnamon and ginger. The aftertaste lasts long with lasting sweetness.

    • Nose
light oak with growing fruitiness which becomes intense, pears, baked apples, honey, vanilla, mirabelle plums
      Nose promises quite a lot!
    • Taste
sweet, baked fruits, jam, mix with ginger, clove, pinch of cinnamon and raisins. Vanilla note
    • Finish
Oak with a hint of sweetness, almonds and slightly spicy.
Really well done whisky, nose and taste are not so complex but really intense which makes it worthy. I would definitely buy next bottle and recommend it. Difference between 12 YO and 15 YO is huge and if you have been a bit disappointed after 12 year old then try this one ;)

    great whisky for the money
    • Nose
      88 88
fruity, sweet pear-honey, ripe apple combined with sour greens, fragrance of flower nectar, light touch of meadow green, with a subtle breath of oak, with a noticeable sherry presence
    • Taste
      84 84
the same pear-honey-apple notes are felt, the oakiness of the barrel with soft spicy shades is fully revealed, a noticeable presence of sherry
    • Finish
      84 84
      medium dry but sweet

  8. maltaholic scored this whisky 80 points Connoisseur

If you give it time for the pungent fumes to dissipate, it develops a nice aroma.
The wood in the foreground, no trace of the sherry, some vanilla, almost like vanilla pudding, whets the appetite.
Quite furry in taste, clearly liquorice, some chocolate, grapes/nuts, later tart herbs are added.
    Not a bad drop...

A rather sweet and smooth soft speysider.
You can buy it everywhere, and it's cheap and tastes good,
This mass-produced whisky always meets people's demand for whisky,
But for advanced drinkers who have a deep understanding of whisky, it must be a bit boring.

The taste score is 83 points, plus 1 point for the price, for a total of 84 points.

  11. Slàinte Mhath scored this whisky 83 points Super Administrator

I was reluctant to revisit Glenfiddich's Solera 15 because I sensed I would be disappointed. Did I change? Did the whisky change? Probably both. Gentle and delicate fruit notes dominate the nose, in particular canned peaches, kiwi and apples. Sourdough, allspice and a hint of sherry emerge. The spicy arrival is quickly spoiled by the thin mouthfeel, where subdued fruitiness, green tea and distant toffee are losing ground. Drying wood spices, walnuts and plums fade in the bittersweet finish. Not quite what it used to be, but that's the malt aficionado speaking.

N: We may be looking for [SW] ‘light, estery, pear and apple-accented‘ notes, but it’s the honeyed barley profile that stands out, notable in three of the first four of this flight. This one is on the youthful side of 15 years with apple pie [a clearly detected note in Glenfiddich’s wash], cream soda, and some spiciness – perhaps from the [new] wood ‘finishing’ that comprises 10% of the whole mix. The rest is comprised of [non-finished] 70% bourbon and 20% sherry refill-matured whisky.

T: A light spicy dry malt, again, surprisingly youthful for a 15yo. A little water is preferable.

    F: A ‘beer/wash-like finish’ is all I noted.

C: Under-powered – a common thread with this flight – so there’s no need to blow away the ethanol from the top of these glasses. Overall, good juice if lacking spark.

Pleasantly fruity. Lots of apples, pears, ripe bananas, sawdust, honey, baked bread, and nutmeg.⁣
    • Taste
Very flat. Watery, muted flavors. Malty, honey, apple compote, pears, white pepper, some drying oak, fruitcake.⁣
    • Finish
      Tannic. Fading woody bitterness.⁣

A little rubbery in after taste.

Matured in an array of casks [virgin, refill US, Euro,…] before being married in a solera vat, this offering is currently £60 or less [at time of writing], for a litre.

C: Appropriately for Glenfiddich, an easy drinker. In the main, we’ve an affordable contemporary/STR-vibe well-engineered whisky that shares a stylistic similarity to the Tamnavulin, though examples of this [becoming rapidly tedious] style from distilleries globally are numerous. At 15yo, it comes across far younger.

Color: light brown, dark golden, caramel.
    Body: medium density, oily, structured.
Nose: Sweet, rich fruity. Compote or even concentrated dried fruit syrup (dried apricots, prunes, raisins, plums, bananas), honey, vanilla, almonds, milk chocolate, fresh milk, marzipan, pear, red berries, nectarines, red apples, cinnamon, nutmeg, a small note lacquered furniture against a background of aged bourbon.
Taste: quite complex, very drinkable. Sweet motifs of dried fruits, marzipan, marmalade, honey, vanilla, milk chocolate, grapes, peaches are successfully balanced by spicy nuances of ginger, cinnamon and woody tones.
Finish: medium length. Dried fruits, ginger.

    • Nose
Overripe, lightly baked apple. SLightly sharp and alcoholic from the first contach. With time it is more subtle, banana, baked fruits again and nutty
    • Taste
      Banana, and smooth oakiness
    • Finish
      Gentle but shortish

  23. Koning scored this whisky 83 points Expert Senior

A gentle and well balanced dram, with the signature Glenfiddich pears. Would benefit from a higher strength though!
    • Nose
      81 81
Rather shy: malty sweetness, stewed pears, vanille, milk chocolate and perhaps raisins
    • Taste
      85 85
More expressive and very balanced: pears, yellow raisins, apricot, white wine, milk chocolate, a bit spicy (ginger?) and a light saltiness that I also find in the 15 Distillery Edition.
    • Finish
      82 82
Citrus and red apples, a bit nutty and dry (tannins?). Same spices, including the saltiness.

He has a false note, a bland spice that stands out from the basically nice to drink whisky in the beginning.

In sum, no revelation, rather the opposite. Something was saved, was probably otherwise landed in the glare industry.

    - blind tasting -

All in all a very tasty whisky.
    • Nose
      87 87
Mild, alcohol is barely noticeable. Sweet sherry, pastries, vanilla, light spice. Over time, I smell ripe yellow fruits, later maybe oranges. No complexity miracle, but very appealing.
    • Taste
      86 86
At first, the whisky seems a bit watery, then the mouthfeel creamy, the alcohol flashes short, intense and sharp, then it is sweet and spicy, I have orange peel, some coffee powder, toffee and roasted hazelnut. Overall, but I lack a little volume.
    • Finish
      84 84
Medium long, creamy, sweet and slightly spicy. Somehow a bit unspectacular.

It is pleasant enough and for a 15 year I have seen it for £36-£38 which is not bad these days.

What I call a safe malt, while not particularly exciting it does the basics well enough but 10 years ago I reckon this was fatter on the palate than it is now.

    Glenfiddich 15 - Solera reserva
( as matchup vs Glenfiddich 12)

Nose: Less fruit, than in 12. More sweet - sherry and honey

Mouth: more development in the mouth, the sherry brings in a lot of volume to the glass and a very appealing /fattening sweetness.

Aftertaste: Short, round and sweet - really sweet. Its very easy as a sipper
The oak comes, out but its wrapped in a lot of sherry/sweetness still.

VERY easy drinkable for everyone, for all new to whisky this could definently be an entry-rum. I still lack a bit of compleksity, its very straight forward and dominant of sherry.
