    Rum whisky - so far not my case, and here's no friendship. He has good moments, I almost like it, but then again something does not fit together, looks artificial, put on, not consistent, so far no PLV rating of myself - in the whisky bar with guests, but he was quite good.
    • Nose
      dry, dusty, waxy ... floor wax, furniture polish ... with a drop of water I get caramel, he is creamier, the promised fruitiness remains closed to me, maybe a hint of gooseberry
    • Taste
      sweet, chocolate and sweet rum, rather snappy, ginger, raisins, molasses, sugar beet syrup, sweetish tobacco
    • Finish
      long, slightly penetrating / artificial, dark chocolate to floor wax, pepper, not so sweet tobacco

    Last time I tried a Hyde whisky was way back in 2016. That was 10-year-old President's Cask No 1. Now the president's second cask is in my glass, finished on rum barrels. It is still not clear to me where Hyde gets his whisky from, because they do not have a distillery themselves. Hibernia Distillers buys its whisky elsewhere. Is this Bushmills? Cooley? Midleton? Who's to say? Fun fact: Hibernia is the Latin name for Ireland, used at the time of the Roman Empire.

    I find the nose very pleasant and inviting. Honey, strawberries, Seville oranges, candied pineapple and ginger. Maybe less 'red' than expected, but very tasty.

    Good body, spicy on nutmeg and cloves with a hint of oregano. That precedes a beautiful fruitiness that mainly consists of pineapple and strawberries. Hint of raspberries and hazelnuts. Another drop of honey. Very round and rich. Ginger and some saffron now. Beautiful, though!

    The finish is sweet and spicy, medium-long and slightly bitter on the deathbed.

    This was not too bad for me. If I were to venture a guess, I would say Bushmills, but that's not at all certain, of course. Thanks again, Benny.

    - an Irishman who also called a Scot in a blind tasting
    goes through
    - very strong, massive and not typically Irish at all, comes
    but according to my evaluation of the Hyde No.1 not ran
    - the rum flavors are rather subtle
    • Nose
      very fruity, sweet, watermelon, oak
    • Taste
      powerfully powerful start, a lot of oak and strong spice, not as sweet as it seems in the smell, much stronger and rougher than expected, rum can be tasted very easily,
    • Finish
      medium-long, powerful finish;
      medium-long dry astringent aftertaste, oak

    the malt and I don't become friends
    the nose and the engine oil are getting used to !!
    • Nose
      old furniture with polish, car repair shop / mortar oil first increases and then becomes less, black rubber (not how I feel at Ardbeg!), followed by red berries and coniferous forest, oak
    • Taste
      light and soft on the palate
      Oak, slightly dark malt, slightly spicy, the alcohol tingles somewhat, very earthy, slightly black rubber
    • Finish
      medium long
      Motor oil, bitter, dark chocolate so 60%

    [Color gold;

    A successful Irish single malt - new brand - unfortunately not very cheap!
    • Nose
      sweet, fruity, juicy watermelon, oak;
    • Taste
      strong powerful start, a lot of oak, strong spiciness, not as sweet as it seems in the smell, slight Rumaromen;
    • Finish
      medium-length, powerful finish; dry astringent finish, oak;

  7. Dramned! scored this whisky 82 points Expert Senior

    In direct comparison find the Hyde No.1 with Olrorso Sherry Finish much more complex, rounder and more balanced. The No.2 is missing the certain kick,
    • Nose
      Flower honey, tropical fruits, marzipan, subtle leathery spiciness, light saltiness, oak, vanilla, traces of caramel
    • Taste
      a warm, full-bodied and strong sweetness spreads and the alcohol is strong, again a nice spiciness, sweet ripe fruit, sweet pipe tobacco
    • Finish
      medium long with a woody-spicy sweetness and a tropical kick in the back palate.

    Compared with the 10yo hyde sherry cask finish this dram is really bad, not to say horrible!

  9. Ragazzo scored this whisky 82 points Expert Senior

    I´m a little dissapointed! It´s something that bothers me about it... maybe they should have let the finishing and bottled it just as a bourbon matured?
