    BLINDTASTING
Mhhhhh I'm 99% sure to have a Ben Nevis in the glass, Bourboncask - about 20y maturation with over 50% alcohol content - especially the nose I like excellent - thanks for the great dram
    • Nose
slightly bitter herbs - "Görli" (Görlitzer Park - Berlin's first address for illegal BTM) say cannabis, oily resin, laurel, freshly cut privet hedge, bark of the tree of life, cinnamon, warm apple juice, cooked fragrant quince, lime, lemon zest mandarin, pineapple, Mint and fat vanilla
    • Taste
Pricklend sour fruity, warming and cooling at the same time, fine exotic fruitiness, when chewing immediately very intense the herbs from the nose, light dryness, mint, honey, fine oak rather as a backdrop, with the second sip more fruity dynamic waves of different fruits
    • Finish
slightly tart - fruity - some beeswax - herbs, light bitterness, walnut shells, lemon zest, mint and citrus oil, peppery - medium long to long

    Tasting Notes by Adelphi;

1 of only 576 bottles from cask no. 1146

From a refill Spanish oak, ex-Sherry butt, this is both amber and topaz in colour. Initially quite dry on the nose (Spanish oak influence), this is immediately replaced with a freshly opened jar of apricot jam, quite marmalade-like now with even more jammy notes, apricot, mango and a hint of orange peel. Star anise appears with honey menthol cough sweets and flaked almonds.
On the palate, stocky toffee pudding, more almonds, milk chocolate, and now lime marmalade.
Sweet jams continue in the finish with just a hint of the 18 years spent in oak.

An intense and wonderfully integrated '96 Ben Nevis. The sherry cask adds a little spice but leaves plenty of room for the fruity distillate to shine.
    • Nose
Stewed citrus fruits, jam, a hint of leathery sherry spiciness. Bitter orange, aniseed.
    • Taste
Earl grey tea (bergamot), lots of jammy fruits (oranges, lemons, peaches) and a green/herbal note
    • Finish
Black tea and a hint of green herbs

Ben Nevis simply produces a fantastically intense and expressive distillate. The barrel leaves me with a rather moderate impression. In Blind-Tasting I would have typed on a Bourbon barrel.

Sweet and sour fruit salad, pineapple, light yeast notes, malt, some solvents. Very full fruity Ben Nevis nose. Only the sherry I search in vain.
    • Taste
      86 86
needs a few drops of water, otherwise the alcohol is very dominant. Beautiful berry flavors (gooseberry, vll. Raspberry), light fruit flavors, cereal notes.
    • Finish
      84 84
Warming, caramel, then dry oak and vanilla. Medium. Somewhat monotonous.

    From a blind tasting.
My tip - Clynelish, 18yo, Bourbon Hogshead, 46%.
    • Nose
Ripe pear, not quite ripe green gooseberry, mustard seeds, rapeseed, dry cereal field in summer, salty, lime juice, maybe a little pineapple, would be nice if not - mMn is not so great here - a little vanilla, late oak comes through
    • Taste
First surprisingly soft, then shortly afterwards full spice, again gooseberries, again mustard seeds, rapeseed, a little vanilla, lemonade, all accompanied by the intense spiciness, dry woody notes develop at the back - fortunately discreet - yeasty-bready.
    • Finish
First intensely spicy, then rather dry, sometimes alcohol comes through, later it's over 08/15-Hogshead-dry oak oak woodland direction raphonig, lemonade, prickles, warms, remains exciting.
