    sample.

You gotta try this and i need to check out more freaking Dailuaines. Almost a minor legend. The slightly unexceptional nose and that tiniest hint of heat drag it down to a shameful 92.
    • Nose
Barley field, lots of citrus, hint of wax. It's very fresh in a way and just slightly sharp. Mirabelles, yellow plums. Hint of dry meat. Dry grass. Quite a theme with this one. Solid nose but not exceptional.
    • Taste
Very dusty and waxy arrival with a meaty undertone. Much like lamb actually. Interesting note. Big spicy attack in mid palate, probably the oak but nothing offensive. Slightly leathery and some damp/musty/mouldy stuff going on in the background. This whisky is intense without ever being over the top about it, plus this is quite an interesting take on unsexiness. There is absolutely nothing sweet about the palate(which i love right now). Turns a tiny bit hot towards the end but it can be ignored.
    • Finish
Medium to long. Dry, spicy. The after taste lingers for quite a while with a thick vanilla/citrus note.

      a ripe cornfield
      viscous sweet honey
      very ripe short-legged apple meat
oily velvety, almost smoky sweetness, caramel
his notes are very intense and dense
Whisky matured on wood - a clear camphor note
that's an honest statement - this whisky the nose is playing
      very good
Again and again this beautiful sunny warm cornfield around which everything turns
      Honey and vanilla
      yellow plum

    'Too good for a bear'
N: Wow, smell that honey  pot, raw, unadulterated runny honey, a touch heathery, heather smoke, gentile barley, soft malt, soft oak. Natural whisky perfection?
T: From grain to mash and then to bourbon oak, theres an exquisite balance and immaculate delivery. Honey Lockett's and barley-oak-infused-lemon carry smiles to the lips.
F: Some paper mache, a touch of clay and hessian sack are detected before yet another release of honey. Stretches out infinitely
C: it's like a David Stewart style whisky, no fuss, no fireworks, only beauty. This was up against some serious hitters [most of Diageo’s 2015 releases], and for me it was the finest of the night. The only fault was into the finish but it concluded as splendidly as it began.

    Score an A [92]

This is a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde of a dram.  The nose is old sweetness while the palette is very feisty.  Was way more savory than I was expecting... if you're in the mood then it's good.
    • Nose
Honey and flowers, yellow plums, and then wax and citrus.  Burns the nose, which I found a little surprising considering.
    • Taste
Peppery and hot initially.  The only fruit I'm getting is lime.  The waxes from the nose are quite evident, and then eucalyptus drops.
    • Finish
      Medium, dry, spicy, leather.

Nose: reminded me of some 1972 Caperdonich, in a slightly less warm way. It shares the combination of fruity notes (apricots, yellow plums), waxy notes, honey and polished oak. A little vanilla and almond cream. This one has a more feisty and meaty profile though, with a little smoke, zesty citrus and ginger. Eucalyptus too. Mouth: very rich and creamy, with a slightly tropical fruitiness. Papaya, tangerine. Also plums and a little vanilla cake. Honey. Then some marmalade, light tobacco and chocolate. Pepper and ginger again, as well as some mentholated notes. Finish: long, quite a bit drier and more leathery, with Seville orange and charred oak.Great whisky. It has some excellent fruity and waxy notes, but in a bulkier, feistier way. An interesting result. Around € 500, a good choice among the more expensive bottles this year.

This one seems to be the first to be going out of stock from the 2015 Special Releases

9.1/10 from Dave BroomNOSE: Immediate marzipan, some nose prickle and the richness of distillery character with just a hint of smoke. Then come ripe, fat fruits, cooked red plums and a meaty undertow that slowly gives way to a sweet, complex mix of dried citrus peels, angelica flower, hot chocolate.

PALATE: Ripe and rich, with that chocolate note continuing. Shows great balance and maturity. Long, with some tropical fruits, mixed with almond. It slowly builds and becomes more weighty with that meatiness underpinning.

    FINISH: Long and fruity.

CONCLUSION: My personal favourite of this year’s releases and, given the market, this is also a fair price. Well worth a look.

RIGHT PLACE, RIGHT TIME: A lamb tagine in Marrakesh.
