Whisky Reviews for Irish Whiskey 2001 Ch7

  1. Tauti scored this whisky 89 points Connoisseur

A great whisky. Unfortunately, I did not buy one when I had the opportunity. If you still see one, I can only recommend it!
As far as the distillery is concerned, I learned from a seller on the whisky ship Zurich 2016 that it was supposed to be a Cooley.
    • Nose
What a nose! After you have overcome the first sherry wall, there are speculum dough with dark bittersweet chocolate. In the background there is something slightly medical (the note is reminiscent of something known from the 10th Macallan). Maybe a μ sulfur.
    • Taste
In the mouth it continues where it stopped in the nose. Various heavy grades. It's a bit like Christmas. All at once I notice a touch of mint and then the taste changes. Under the heavy Sherrydeckmantel fresh notes, such as lime and mint come to light. Can I mix Sherry and Mojito?
    • Finish
The finish gives a review of the whisky. Warm, sherry, speculoos, with a Mojito finish towards the end.

Alcohol dominates the nose. Fairly neutral. In the mouth, there is sherry, but with the high alcohol content, completely crush the Irish side of the dram. So limited interest.

    Enthusiasm 2/5

    • Nose
When nosing you are greeted with lots of wood notes such as cedar wood and chestnut. Star aniseed and copper polish. Or make that furniture polish with bees wax. Be gentle with the Irish for he has a pretty sharp yet warm alcohol sting. Fresh citrus notes from clementines or mandarins. Brinta porridge with hazelnuts and orange candy. Rock sugar and sweet cherries sign up for the sweeter side of the flavours. A tiny hint of an anise liquor lingers in the back.

With water there’s an added sweetness from typical sherry notes. Dried fruits and furniture polish. Sweet soy sauce, baby biscuits or egg cakes and raisin bread crust.
    • Taste
Silky and slightly oily in the mouth. A woody treat minus the usual bitterness with some peppery notes. Cedar wood and the fresh perfume of rosemary sprigs. Biscuits with raisins and sprinkled with aniseed.

Water reveals chocolate with rosemary and rum raisins ice cream.
    • Finish
A warm finish full of stewed apples, hazelnuts and beechnuts.
