I loved it. A big whisky, fiery and complex. Dark and bright. Alcohol is perfectly integrated, it does not matter for a second. For lovers of powerful peat and marine, if you have not tried this version 12 years CS, run! The pleasure - price ratio is superb! Beside and despite its qualities, the 16-year-old does not hold the shock. If it had to be given a subjective note, it would be a 91.
    • Nose
Very light creamy yellow color, regular tears, fine, long and fast. After rubbing, a taste on the palm gives me a glimpse of a day when we decide to burn the branches and "bad" herbs of the garden, ashes, burnt wood, freshly mown grass, and cereals. A garage nose, motor oil, fat bike chain, hot metal and wet rock. The burnt land of peat, gasoline, grilled fish. The seaside is not far, iodine and seaweed accompanied by salt, white pepper and licorice. We leave this beautiful ocean world and burned to be carried by the breeze and spicy floral. Violet and blackcurrant bud, lemon and zest as well as dark chocolate. A beautiful nose composing a beautiful symphony of peat, flowers, spices and fruits.
    • Taste
It's dry and fat in the mouth. Very smoky, on ash, just burnt wood and coal. The distillate becomes round and sweet, the violet, spicy around curry and white pepper. The palate is hot and spicy. Lemon, but also a beautiful exoticism: pineapple and coconut. The metal and the wet rock offer a nice freshness. The finish is very oily, on bitter cocoa.
    • Finish
The final is long. The Lajaunie cachou, the ash and the beautiful pear Helen. The empty glass resonates on grilled / toasted, peat and lemon zest.

These Lagavulin 12yo CS never disapoint. Year after year after year it offers cracking quality. This is not an exception. For me personally the 2016 version is the best ever but this comes real close!
    • Nose
Spot on from the second it hits the glass. This offers loads of maritime, industrial and peat influences. Just love it! Smoldering wood on a campfire, earthy peat, bbq’ed ham, flavored pipe tobacco, motor oil, steel chains, seaweed, salty, sour green apples, unripe pear and also some toffee notes. Everything on this nose is balanced and it screams complexity. Just beautiful!
    • Taste
A fresh, oily and earthy sensation seeps into the mouth. There is an more aggressive note to it here, I take white pepper into account for that, but it’s being taken over by sweet and buttery flavors. On the palate campfire, dirt and peat dominate in a very pleasant way. Smokey vanilla and salted cream butter.
    • Finish
The finish is long and offers quite a lot. Obviously peat is responsible for a big part here but hey, it’s an 12yo heavily peated Islay whisky what else would one expect. Furthermore I get quite some tropical fruit influences all of a sudden. Nice touch!

It’s close to being perfect in terms of autumn and winterdrams for me!

purchased online at the price of 80 euros excluding shipping costs:
nose: the coastal side of the distillery emerges immediately, more marked in this full-strength bottling than the basic version 16 yo, smell much more pronounced and intense, smoke, seaweed, peat, sea water, iodine and medicinal herbs
taste: 58 degrees incredibly and wonderfully disappear, pale gold color, first sip explosion of peat, tar, algae, sea salt, the strength of a wave and the sea foam on the Scottish cliffs, then the second sip gives way to a taste creamy, with hints of citrus, cedar, sometimes liquorice, cereals, wax, alcohol is aniway hidden by peat and the malt creaminess
Final: long, persistent, lasting, the taste remained on the palate for almost 30 minutes or more.
A giant, to have at all costs in your collection

The 12-year-old expression is always impressive, as well as this, which is clearly one of the better.
    • Nose
First, minerals and iodine, some grapefruit, the smoke is in the background, although a slightly salty BBQ note is already to be guessed. After a while, a nice toffee note develops, which perfectly harmonizes with the still very minerally dry character. A little more time and leather, floor wax and even some freshly ground coffee complete the bouquet. On the other hand, notes of fresh, ripe fruit, peaches, pears and pineapple flash from time to time. Then roasted marshmallows and beef jerky again. You really can not have hunger here. Incredible, freshly grilled burger with sweet relish. Heated, he goes more to the fruity side, with honey, grilled bacon with mango chutney.
    • Taste
On the tongue it is really great, strong without burning with grilled marshmallows, again bacon, dark toffee, coffee drops and behind out a pleasant bitterness, integrated in eucalyptus. A big movie theater!
    • Finish
The bitterness also determines the finish, which is relatively short and salty at the end, after the mineral notes dominate again in the middle.

A very enjoyable and pure peat bomb, especially the sauna-like freshness is remarkable.
    • Nose
      88 88
Starts on medicinal peat, followed by some wet dog and a waves of freshness: lemons, sage and turkish steam bath. There's some vanilla and banana (yes, it's bourbon matured!), and even some green olives and bacon.
    • Taste
      91 91
Heavy medicinal peat with an oily mouthfeel. Incredibly fresh with sterremunt herbs: liquorice, aniseed, fennel, peppermint. Some sweeter notes like vanilla, banana and a bit of pineapple. Rhubarb and menthol tobacco.
    • Finish
      88 88
Waves of peat with green apples, lemons, pineapple and vanilla. It's a bit mineral too, and the fresh sterremunt herbs of the palate are very present in the finish too.

Classic South Islay style peated whisky. Honest, strong, straight forward. Not complex but not too simple either. That's my thing!

    Notes from a blind tasting.

And recognized! One of my favorite whiskys, luckily I still have some of ...
Today one point less than the first Notes.
    • Nose
      91 91
Strong ashes and sweet campfire smoke hit you immediately after pouring. After just a few moments, strong mineral notes appear, the smoke becomes increasingly phenolic, the sweetness disappears and disinfectants are added. With movement more open flames, more in the direction of coal firing. Put the lid on and wait ...
After a while, a citrus fruitiness can be felt, the sweetness is back in the form of dark toffee, the smoke overall is more subdued and a delicate peach note rounds off the whole thing. The nose is well integrated. Warmth makes it incredibly mineral and phenolic at first, sweetness or fruit can no longer even be suspected. Later, sweetness and now significantly darker fruits come back, while it still remains mineral and phenolic, but barbeque notes also appear occasionally.
    • Taste
      92 92
In the mouth it is very soft at first, again minerally with a clear peat sweetness, dark toffee and block malt. The mouthfeel is quite creamy, with tart notes clearly emerging towards the back. In the second sip it has a much more mineral effect and also develops a little liquorice towards the back.
    • Finish
      91 91
The finish is quite long, continues to dry out, until there is only ash on the tongue at the end. It warms up the chest area quite clearly.

Eyes: Golden Scent Nose: Vanilla ice cream, cream, medium smoke, lemongrass, shredded perilla and other herbs, sea salt and umami, some red pear water, apple juice, smell soft and stretch the taste Palate: extremely salty , Slightly sweet, no acid, no bitterness. First, perilla, rosemary, chopped pepper, then some salted butter and cheese powder, and then salt and seafood, apple tart, nectar, ginger, grilled saury, thirteen spice powder.
Finish: long and salty, oak, smoked, char-grilled seafood, rosemary, skimmed milk wine Body: medium weight, no tannins, rich fat, firm body

    Nose: 90/100
    Palate: 90/100
    Finish: 90/100
    Body: 90/100
Overall: 90/100. I have drunk 2019SR before. I was disappointed. Not only does it stimulate restlessness, but the level and coordination are far worse than this.

Stones me but I don't get warm with it: too alcoholic, not very balanced and in my opinion too overpriced and hyped! Only the belief that he the 16y standard and the Dist.Ed. subsidized make it bearable ...
What you have to give him: he numbs toothache and other things, e.g. tattooing an Edradour still ^^

No offense, but it won't be my favorite!
