    Conclusion and pictures on: https://tomtrinkt.de
    • Nose
Immediately after pouring soft fruit notes and floral aromas flow out of my glass. The alcohol content (49.9% cask strength) is perfectly integrated and allows long breaths just above the edge of the glass. Fresh, bright fruits are immediately dominant. Apricots, green apples, pears, pineapple, a hint of passion fruit and hints of unripe strawberries cement the fruity foundation. The gentle fruit flavors are covered with soft vanilla / caramel and blossom honey notes. This is followed by malt, almonds and a light, reminiscent of Clynelish, wax note. An unbelievably beautiful contrast is the distinctive oak wood notes, which are always perceptible, but at no time push the fruity-fresh aromas into the background. The nose excites me right away, as it depicts a very harmonious symbiosis of silky soft fruit notes and a noticeably long maturing period of a quarter of a century.
    • Taste
Pleasantly oily and soft the Pittyvaich starts on the palate. The strong alcohol content gives the malt sufficient strength and fits my feeling very well again. I renounce the addition of water. In the beginning sweet, bright fruits dominate the taste again: apricots, green apples, pears and tropical fruits I perceive. It is followed by floral notes, vanilla, sweet malt, plenty of almonds, milk chocolate, fresh mown grass, hints of herbs and pine needles, wax and tart oak notes. Hidden deep in the background is a tender smoke flag. Similar to the nose, the taste is very complex and harmonious. The palate is already slightly dry.
    • Finish
Medium to long, fruity-spicy and warm. The sweet fruit notes dominate in the short term with a little honey and vanilla. Milk chocolate and herbs follow. The spicy notes of oak wood are beneficial in the end and cause a noticeable, but always pleasant, dryness. A fine nuttiness and delicate smokiness set the final point.

Actually, I'm not a huge fan of classic species, too often I find it boring or interchangeable. But this one is really exciting, offers many different flavors and manages to wrap these into a harmonious overall work of art. A magnificent ex-Bourbon maturation as it is written in the book, complex and clean matured. Too often, the malts of closed distilleries are overestimated and improperly transfigured, but here it meets exactly my taste. Great malt!
    • Nose
Sweet, light, malty, slightly floral. Classic Speysider. Light fruits, some creamy honey, in the background clearly noticeable textures of bitter oak.
After a certain time in the glass clear almonds, green apples and malty sweetness.
    • Taste
Almost perfect alcohol content is the first thing I think. Strong and direct, but not overburdening and piercing. This fits easily, water does not necessarily need the Pittyvaich.
On the tongue now a wonderful combination of nutty aromas (again, the almonds from the nose, but also walnut), slightly floral notes, spicy-sweet oak. The latter had much less present than I expected after the nose, which is very good for the malt.
Generally a very oily consistency, nestles down to the tongue and palate. There in addition to the already mentioned flavors again with slightly grassy notes (just a Speysider) and green fruits, but also interesting herbal notes, which I can not really determine. At the end with a slight smoke / peat note. Beautiful variety and altogether very harmonious, that fits!
    • Finish
In the medium-long finish with the expected oak notes, even here not as dry and bitter as feared. Slightly astringent, without jottings. Light fruity notes and some honey before the oak takes over and the sweet and spicy tannins remain. Here, too, with a slight hint of smoke, but less clearly than on the tongue.

  3. Marko_I did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

With under € 300 one of the cheaper of the Diageo Special Releases 2015 & 16 - and one of the best, thus at the PLV very far ahead. Beautiful fruity and light-sweet notes, the smell reflects great in the taste again, very creamy, tasty, little bitter-woody-spicy notes, a great, self-contained whisky.
    • Nose
fresh and fruity, pineapple, banana, vanilla, double biscuits with lemon filling, white pepper ... still has good sharpness, something tingles in the nose, with some water come ripe bananas, vanilla, biscuit and lemon cream even more intense, plus fresh sawdust from young wood
    • Taste
sweet banana, vanilla cream, a hint of ripe, juicy pear, in passing an exotic-fruity touch, then butter cookies, milk chocolate, milk coffee, Nutella, ends in tart, dried kitchen herbs
    • Finish
medium-long mild-sweet and creamy, light chocolate, vanilla and banana sound again after, a little longer then remains the pleasantly dry herbal note, not the slightest trace of bitter or spicy (which is actually at least a minimum of whisky at least here)

  4. LiquidThoughts scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

An interesting, light dram for people who like this direction, almost more Lowlander than Speysider, but has something interesting about it.
    • Nose
Very floral nose, green apple, honey (light), vanilla, chamomile, pear, waxy and a little nut
    • Taste
Pear, green apple, eigtl the whole nose again chewed through, with pineapple, a little apricot and vllt. even bright berries, almonds
    • Finish
Dry and light-fruited, pear and apricot remain with the shell and slight exotic-florality, medium length

Very delicate but Refill Bourbon was just the right choice for this distillate, wonderful fruit flavors were created. It's pretty much scratching the ninety point mark.

    Heavenly

I recently hosted a unique online masterclass in which all six official releases from this closed distillery were tasted, from the 12 years old Flora & Fauna series to all 5 Diageo Special Releases (20yo, 25yo, 28yo, 29yo, 30yo). This 25 Year Old is bottled at cask strength. I was a bit surprised that I had not yet posted any notes, so high time to rectify that.

Nice, round and aromatic nose on tropical fruit (pineapple, mango, white peach, lime) and a touch of oak, a bit of vanilla and some mint. Delicious!

Nicely seasoned, but at the same time very fruity and sweet. It transports me directly to a tropical island. The strength is nigh perfect. This is very, very good.

The finish is medium long, fruity, softly spicy and simply outstanding.

A heavenly whisky from this lost Speysider.

Nose: malt and ripe citrus, with apple, beeswax and honey, mandarin fillets from the tin (I love the things!), And the whole thing permeated by a very slight mineral note. A little vanilla, subtly woody, with time more pineapple and gooseberries, very well balanced!

Mouth: Amazing dry, malty and herbal king. I would not have expected that, given the juicy fruitiness in the aroma. Again clearly honey-king, bitter oranges, a lot of pepper, almost chili-like enormous strength.

Finish: Very dry and astringent, astringent, peppery and malty.

Conclusion: As much as I liked the smell, I did not like the taste.

Taste: Fruit-sweet, malt, acacia honey, smooth creamyness, delicate warm spice. No bitterness or crawling woodiness is done here. (87 b)

Summary: Another disused distillery. I received 49.9% of my alcohol beautifully soft. I enjoyed every sip, and for half a half I shared with my daddy for a toast to Christmas. Special and interesting whisky, both of us praised the Pittyvaich.

Also tried in the queue [of the Whisky Show], on day 2. I had this down at 84 points when I tried it along with Diageo’s other special releases in 2016. In today’s company, I find it far more seductive.

C: With a rich, firm-yet-delicate metallic character, I find it reminiscent of Diageo’s 1975 Glen Albyn [WB], that they released way back in 2002!

Pleasant, close in style to his 20-year-old brother, but the flavor is stiffer and simpler, although older, deeper, but there is no that pleasant lightness and airiness, the taste / finish is also calmer, sweeter, in general, there are 5 years difference in age, smoothness, solidity appeared, the lightness disappeared and yet it became slightly more boring.

Serge from Whiskyfun says:Pittyvaich 25 yo 1989/2015 (49.9%, OB, Special Release) Like the minimalistic design. Let’s hope the whisky won’t be in keeping with this style. Colour: straw. Nose: the style is there again, with some ink and chalk, but this time it’s cleaner, without any feinty/yeasty or bitter notes. Leather and porridge, candle wax, then something very ‘funny’, Provence herbs. Rosemary, thyme, bay leaves, even pine needles. And a little ham in the background. Mouth: really funny indeed, quite pungent, grassy, waxy, with a fizzy side (lemonade) and then pine needles again. Basil liqueur. Yes, that exists. Finish: medium, always ‘funny’, between lemon and fresh mentholated herbs, as well as a little dill or fennel. Comments: did I tell you I found this baby funny? A forgotten style, I don’t know of any other distillery that still makes it like this. I even find it really good, but its ‘unlikeliness’ may be part of that judgement. SGP:361 - 85 points.

N: Colin Dunn offered a two week holiday in Cuba for anyone who could tell him what Pittyvaich (Pitty-vake, like cake) meant. Nosing this, it's not a complex nose. With familiar mash notes and a touch of rawness about it, this is a natural Speyside whisky.
T: Beefy mash, savoury, rich. Lovely to drink.
    F: ...... more malty porridge.
C: Pittyvaich means,..... who knew? No one but Colin on the night, which must have been a relief. It means, 'place of the cowshed'.

Aroma: Firm, honey-sweet aromas of fermented malt and a dash of almond oil. Then delicate fruity notes of pineapple, baked green apple and strawberry jam, followed by vanilla biscuit and vanilla sauce. Water makes it wonderfully sweet and round and gives it a fragrant oily touch. The fruit note is now cut banana with honey on malt cereals and soft fruit candy and barley malt. Body: Moderate. Taste: Amazingly mild in natural cask strength, overall sweet and cool overall, with a light acidity. Warm nuttiness when unfolding, still oily and malty in the bouquet. In the middle of the palate fine buttery tart. Diluted with water, it is thicker, warmer and drier in texture; In the taste with mixed dried fruit and a balancing acidity of crisp apples. Finish: medium and warm. Herbs with a hint of peat; later drier and with aftertaste to heather honey. Milder with water: still sweet and slightly oily with a balancing bitterness. Spicy and slightly aromatic.
