  1. LiquidThoughts scored this whisky 91 points Connoisseur

He has surprised me extremely positive at the points here on WB, as a pre-poster has rarely written so beautiful, fresh fruits seen at the age, alcohol is virtually unnoticeable and yet he is beautiful full-bodied, great part.
    • Nose
Bourboncask x wasabi, grasses, zucchini, later also bright fruit to come, star fruit, apricot, some kiwi, vanilla, white chocolate, lemongrass, ginger, some heather grass
    • Taste
Fruity than expected, kiwi, pineapple, red and green apple, nice sparkling, biscuits, grapefruit, birch sap, tropical honey, ginger, mint, fresh banana
    • Finish
Grasses, malt, honey, ginger, hay, apple peel, long

  2. Marko_I did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

Tasty, interesting (would have surprised me too, if Diageo would fill in the series manure), Price - the series is just something for people who can afford it, for me a nice 100 € whisky.
    • Nose
dry, mild, aromatic-woody, some white pepper and cinnamon, a touch of boner wax, with water first green apple, hard pear, then sweet, jelly banana, above all a light scent of fresh hay
    • Taste
sweet, creamy, malty, Werther's real, custard, overripe banana, shortbread
    • Finish
medium long, warm, dry, velvety mouthfeel, mild spicy, slightly resinous-bitter

  3. dRambo scored this whisky 90 points Connoisseur

rarely had such a fresh malt at that age in the glass - not alcoholic - the alcohol is very well integrated - it combines the aromas of ancient malts with an initial very light accessibility and intensity on the palate - then a long warm finish
    • Nose
very fresh spicy aromatic citrus note, lime zest with lots of citrus oil, muesli, malt, freshly cut twigs, spices from the wood, vanilla, light heather
    • Taste
sweet, sour tingling, pepper, mint, ginger on the tongue - very lively, pudding, banana with chocolate, candle wax, a touch of furniture polish, slightly mineral, birch sap, grapes
    • Finish
very long - fresh mint and citrus fruity - fine oak without bitterness

  4. LeChiffre scored this whisky 86 points Connoisseur

Delicious, but not outstanding either. Sour-spicy and looks younger than 25 years. Not worth buying for me at the price.

  5. LDB scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

Can't get carried away completely, there is little highland heather honey,
but a lot of citrus-based acidic spice. Overall looks younger than 25 years.
    • Nose
      87 87
The alcohol stings a bit at first, then after a proper time in the glass, spicy-sweet-fruity aromas develop with a pronounced lemon note, which is relatively fresh, towards lemongrass.
    • Taste
      88 88
A good thing, with warm lemon cake and a dash of extra virgin oil, a little beeswax and a pinch of white pepper. Sugared grapefruit fillets, then it turns sour.
    • Finish
      87 87
Long, drying, the teeth become dull, age shows through here, but the tannins are without bitterness.

Dalwhinnie 25yo (2015 Special Edition). Purchased a sample for a special occasion on the back of enjoying the standard 15 bottling. Aroma is quite grain whisky like lots of bourbon vanilla some bubblegum. No real complexity or interest. Taste is vanilla, woody, alcohol comes through quite strongly, quite hot with soft peat, bread crusts, grainy. Just very plain and I don't understand why this was chosen for a special edition. Really quite disappointing indeed. (2.9/70)

  8. Whisky Hamster scored this whisky 88 points Expert Senior

Very good Dalwhinnie, just falls a bit short behind the previous 25 yo Special Release.

    Color: Pale Straw

Three dogs from the same kennel, I'm afraid the differences are not sufficiently reflected in my notes. The 89er reminds me of a 30 year old "more ordinary" Highlander (let's say Blair Athol) with extra smoke (yes, please!), It already has a lot of volume, fruits from the distillate still come through well. The 87 puts oomph, volume, depth and smoke on top. The 73er with its notes of wilderness in the far north (I love) and after almost 30 years of ripening, still bright, fresh fruits belongs to a different generation. What they all have in common is the light, sooty smoke (most pronounced with the 87) and the thick spirit (reminds me of fleshy plums, with the 89 you have to make certain tapping). 89: 90 points, 87: 92 points, 73: 93 points.

    Many Thanks!
    • Nose
Needs some fresh air, darkens from unripe plums, porridge, dry wood and charred shavings to charred orange peel, furniture polish, candle soot and dry earth. The mortal unripe plums do not disappear completely and give the nose a special density. Fine vanilla, lilac blossom. Charred orange peel and also the porridge come alive again, malt, apple peel. Later brown bread, bitter oranges. With water: cooler, sootier, and earthier.
    • Taste
Malty and thick, orange peel, resin and charred rind, dry earth. Well bitter. Soot from candles, apple peels. With water: round, malty, hot-burning fire and dry earth, tree sap. Ripe apples.
    • Finish
Long, a lot of bitter orange jam, straw, some malt beer. Tree sap, polished oak.

Great, aromatic, fresh whisky. I like it very much. In terms of price maybe a bit too high for me but otherwise great.
Almost ex-bourbon "as its best ..."
    • Nose
      90 90
Mild, soft nose, nice slightly spicy citrus note with grassy notes of fresh hay. Peppery with fruity apples and pears, vanilla and a little honey sweetness are there, acts rather fresh, summery, light, great aroma combination in everything
    • Taste
      90 90
Creamy, sweet and fruity appearance, lemons, vanilla, apple, pear. looks a bit drier on the palate with slightly tart raspberries and currants, plus this peppery tingle with great spicy wood aromas.
    • Finish
      88 88
Long finish, fresh and fruity comes to an end, seasoning fades, some vanilla remains

A mid-range bourbon that does not make mistakes
    • Nose
Lemon, dill, vanilla, cake, honey, cumin, caramel, coconut milk, maple sugar.
    • Taste
Gummy, vanilla, oak spicy, slightly bitter.
    • Finish
      Medium, caramel, vanilla, oak.

I only try the standard 15 year Dalwhinnie before this.

25 year Dalwhinnie definitely worth a try, those fresh fruit aroma is fascinating and with earthy bitterness .

This is just one dalwhinnie that I can accept over 80. The 15 and Winters gold was so atrocious. Coloured, caramel and chill filtered? Highly possible.

A complex, very good Highlander - but at a completely overpriced price!
    • Nose
      slight fruit flavors (apples, pears), a little vanilla, caramel;
    • Taste
      a powerful strong fresh onset, citrus fruit, bourbon vanilla, sweetness (honey), creamy, multi-layered;
    • Finish
      medium-length slightly bitter finish; long spicy finish;

a very unique taste. Really very discreet in attack but then reveals itself. A very marked apricot. Very vertical aroma, almost spicy. Nice length in the mouth.

  20. gallfux did not rate this whisky Expert Senior

For a 25 year old pretty fresh and sparkling. But that's not meant to be negative. He has something. But of course it's a bit different than you imagine. I like that but pretty well.
    • Nose
Surprisingly fresh with spice. Unsweetened lemon tea. Lemon balm. Fresh sawdust. Wet leaves and flower meadow. Apple (green to possibly yellow). Also a reminder of carrot salad with apple. Pear dish. Suggested cereals. Some tree bark.
    • Taste
At first relatively creamy and sweet. Flowerhoney. Vanilla semolina pudding. Then it tingles but reasonably strong. It gets more sour. Lemon shower rods. Haribo sour chips. Now the oak starts. Even so a herbal note comes.
    • Finish
The sour citrus and the tingling still remains. Tonic Water. In addition, the oak makes the whole thing a bit drier.

  21. SilvanoS scored this whisky 90 points Expert Junior

    • Nose
Very fresh and elegant; apples and pears, honey and pollen, some notes of green tea. Very clean, with nearly no oak influence. This may sound boring, but it’s quite interesting. Close to the 15 year old (OB) but cleaner and fresher and more intense.
    • Taste
Creamy and oily impact, very fresh. White fruits and some white chocolate. Honey and spices emerge.
    • Finish
More on the spicy site now and not as fresh as the nose suggested. It fades away with a spicy note at the tongue and the throat.

I can understand that some people may find this one boring because of its clean and fresh character. But if you like the 15 year old (OB) you will love this one (but obiviously not the price) .
