This is a very well composed vatted malt (malt blend). On the nose the smokiness is quite restrained but on the palate every flavour is interspersed with wood smoke and subtle medicinal smoke. The nose is quite delicate but the palate is sturdy and robust. Be careful with water in this one as it seems to loose its balance on the nose and on the palate mainly accentuates the smokiness.
All in all a lovely and interesting dram to sip.
    • Nose
A rich, delicate and wel balanced whisky with aromas of subtle sweet sherry, subtle smoke, brown sugar, red apple, pear, caramelized pineapple, dried fruits (apricots, yellow plums), honey, old rope, cloth, licorice root, bayleaf, roasted almonds, subtle medicinal tones, earthy tones, musty cellar, milk chocolate, cloves, cinnamon, allspice, angelica root, sweet tobacco, vanilla and creamy oak.
    • Taste
A rich, full, creamy and powerful whisky with aromas of peat smoke, sweet sherry, fresh fruits, jam, dried fruits (plums, apricots, cherries, figs, dates) medicinal tones, star anise, licorice root, earthy tones (forrest ground and mushrooms) dark honey, salted caramel, cocoa powder, cedarwood, sweet tobacco, tannins, vanilla, spices (pepper, ginger, cinnamon, clove and subtle nutmeg), wax, musty cellar, old books and creamy oak.
    • Finish
A long, rich and slightly drying finish with aromas of peat smoke, ash, subtle medicinal tones (wee bit tar and iodine), pepper, backing spices, sweet sherry, licorice root, digestives and oak.
