Notes from an online blind tasting.
    • Nose
      Colour:
      Light amber

      Nose:
Seems very set. Finely salty, a bit of menthol, fine herbs, dry wood, wood glue, maple syrup, somehow autumnal, cherries, some apricots, a bit of leather and roasted aromas round off the nose nicely.
With a little time in the glass it becomes significantly oilier.
    • Taste
Soft honey entry. Dry oak spice and that pinch of salt again. Grainy sweetness. Unripe, light berries and something like not quite ripe sour cherries. The herbs taste slightly tart.
    • Finish
Medium to long. Oily sweet with fine spice and a little smoke when you exhale.

Re taste once air has got to it.
I still struggle with the nose, and now the air has got to it there is a manufactured toffee note, fragile stuff the air has not improved this.
if I was scoring again it would be 70-75 points certainly much less than last time.

Different bottle to the last one late 60`s/early 70's but no later and it shows, loads of OBE on the nose, a little funky, a little dirty, a little oily.
The palate is a bit weird, it is a little chemical like, which is the one one the toffee note, you get this and slot in old blends I have found.
spicy, toffee, chewy on the palate, a decent amount of spice and a bit oily.
I think many malt drinkers would struggle with this, quite unusual but you can certainly recognise Royal Lochnagar in the mix and the grain component is pretty quiet.

I like this, there must be a lot of Royal Lochnagar in it % wise.
    • Nose
Unmistakable Royal Lochnagar, fruit cake, raisins, plum, black cherry and sherry.

Leave it a while and you get some string fudge and coffee notes.
    • Taste
The grain is at the front but it is quite full bodied and chewy which I like.

Syrup, almost port like, forest fruits cinnamon , dark treacle and plum
    • Finish
      Decent length, smooth and creamy
